To understand why we must come to God through Christ alone is to understand the priesthood of Christ. God the Father will not accept those who pray to him except through his Son. I know that sounds harsh. But that is why Jesus is God’s mediator and OUR mediator. He is the middle man so to speak of believers receiving the graces and blessings of God. Jesus also made this mediatorship clear in John 14:6. He said NO MAN can come to the Father EXCEPT BY ME. So we can’t approach God through Mary, the Pope, Buddha, St Peter, but only through Jesus. That’s what Jesus said and he does mean what he says.
Code:
You say we can pray for one another while on earth, so why can't I pray to whoever that is in heaven? Simply, because the scriptures say all prayers go up before God and not single individuals. And we are not commanded to consult with the spirits of the departed anyway. Jesus said, "Come unto ME." Why? Because he is both our high priest and mediator.
Often in my prayers to him, I say, tell Mom and Dad I miss them and hope to be with them soon. I know he will tell them, because I prayed the way Jesus wished for me to. I didn't seek an alternate route. But prayed directly to him for all my needs.
