The republican party has been a party of shame for some time now. They even hide their last president. And this comes across. My opinion is that if they hope to be around in 50 years, they need to get in touch with current values. They need to embrace diversity.
With all due respect, for Catholics, the shame is in embracing the values of the cultural left - abortion and sodomy. That might be hard for you to understand.

Catholic Church is going to have to fight for religious feedom. Perhaps this will make the Church stronger
I’m sure this will make the Church stronger, even though I’m pretty sure it’s not going to look that way at the beginning of this mess.

It’s going to have an ironic interesting twist to it. Many of our worst dissidents are going to find themselves jobless and shocked and it may not take long. Bishops now have a reason to do what they need to do. You watch.

It’s also going to sober some Catholics up about what the real mission and teaching of the Church is, I think. That may take quite a while because we’ve been out in the weeds playing around for a long time, but we’ll see how it goes. On top of the New Evangelization coming from Rome, I think we’re finally going to see some long-overdue improvements.

So is this all a disaster? Maybe not. But it’s not going to be easy. And there’s going to be a lot of whining, I think. 😛
And it’s going to be expensive if people refuse to make decisions and don’t take it seriously right away. Trust me, the federal government is not toying with us. They mean business.

…They need to embrace diversity.
Excerpt from The Letter of Mathetes to Diognetus, describing Christians, 130 AD

“They dwell in their own countries, but simply as sojourners. As citizens, they share in all things with others, and yet endure all things as if foreigners. Every foreign land is as if to them as their native country, and every land of their birth as a land of strangers. They marry, as do all; they beget children; but they do not destroy their offspring. They have a common table, but not a common bed. They are in the flesh, but they do not live after the flesh. They pass their days on earth, but they are citizens of heaven. They obey the prescribed laws, and at the same time surpass the laws by their lives. They love all men, and are persecuted by all. They are unknown and condemned; they are put to death and restored to life. They are poor, yet make many rich; they are in lack of all things, yet abound in them all; they are dishonored, and yet in their dishonor are glorified.”

Clinton wasn’t old but he was rich. Please enlighten me how they get more than a few African- American votes.
Errp… The Clintons were both successful lawyers. He was a former law professor, and a former governor. Definitely in the top 10%.

When I said rich, I meant it like Romney rich, like McCain rich, like Bush rich, like Kerry rich. That is a 1,000 fold, or more like a 10,000 or 100,000 fold difference. If you think Clinton was rich with a few million dollars, consider hundreds of million and billions. That is the difference.

Yes, successful people in our society can easily stash a few million. Starting pay in my profession puts you there in a few years, if you choose the money path and save your pennies for a while.

But that is not the same as someone who is born into a billion dollar trust fund, or marrying a billion dollar baby. The Forbes list is a joke. It only lists the people who flaunt their money.

The republicans could do much better, i think, if they stopped putting up billion dollar babies, or their spouses, for president.
