Why are Catholics so in love with their guns here on CAF?

I don’t like it when criminals use guns to kill innocent people.

I don’t like it when criminals shoot cops.

I don’t like it when criminals kidnap, rape and murder innocent women and/or children.

Sometimes giving a criminal a second chance means that YOU die and he lives to kill someone else.

Our 2nd Amendment has not been and never will be about hunting. It IS about keeping tyranny at bay. We need it now more than ever.
Take guns out of America. Make it illegal like UK. 2nd Amendment, 1791. Old Law!! Do you really need guns? Self defence? Buy a rottweiler!! 😃

IF I was to break into a house, I would get a gun (illegely), first, and, if faced with any type of dog, would kill the dog and then go after any people in the house, 😃 😛
Why do you only address halt of my post?

You would think that Catholics would place more faith in God, and less faith in guns. What is especially puzzling is that research has shown that more innocent people are killed by private ownership of guns than perpetrators of violent crime.
To answer your title question…I think that it is less about being in love with their guns than it is in being in love with our rights as American citizens. At least that is the case for me -
I’m no great gun proponent…I own one but have no ammo for it.
To me it is a matter of constitutional protection…I will support gun ownership because I support the Constitution of the United States. Unless and until there is an amendment passed that revokes the second amendment…the two things are inseparable.

Now - that said, I think we can have some very lively arguments about how to address the “well regulated militia” aspect of the second amendment - but this debate, this argument, we must never lose sight of the second half of the amendment.
In short…Both sides of the argument have to recognize and embrace the second amendment as a whole and work within it.

Last Friday as I was driving to mass, I passed a demonstration on the gun issue. I noted that those in favor of gun control were flashing signs that read…
STOP GUN VIOLENCE
And I thought. Amen…but why stop with Gun violence. Why not carry signs without the qualifier…Why not carry signs that say “stop violence”…This makes more sense. it’s not about the gun…It’s about violence. It’s about hate - it’s about sin…

Even Jesus told the Apostles to arm themselves…He did not tell them to sin…

Peace
James

Who wants to be subject to the same violence they have in the UK?
Britain’s violent crime record is worse than any other country in the European union, it has been revealed.
Official crime figures show the UK also has a worse rate for all types of violence than the U.S. and even South Africa - widely considered one of the world’s most dangerous countries.

No. The criminals don’t turn in their guns. That would leave law-abiding citizens defenseless against not only criminals, but the overwhelming power of a tyrannical federal government. It will NEVER happen. If it did, America would be over as we have known it.

But innocent people who die of gun violence will get to Heaven faster. Again, trust in God.
What is it about being killed by a gun that gets people to Heaven faster? Is there an indulgence attached to being killed with a gun?

Part of the reason it is a bad thing to take a human life is that the victim might be in mortal sin at death when if he had not been killed might have gone on to turn his life arond and repent.

That’s paranoia.

The United Kingdom has one of the lowest rates of gun homicides in the world. There were 0.07 recorded intentional homicides committed with a firearm per 100,000 inhabitants in 2010, compared to the 3.0 in the United States (over 40 times higher) and 0.21 in Germany (3 times higher).[4]

So why does the pope ride in a bullet proof glass vehicle while surrounded by armed guards? You need to tell him he’s doing it wrong.
And this is in Italy, which has some of the most stringent personal anti possession gun laws in Europe!

What makes you think that lack Faith can be linked to gun ownership? Does everyone who owns a gun own it because they want to defend themselves? I personally don’t, rather I own one because I like to shoot it, and I like to hunt…and sure, if I happened to be able to load it in time to prevent a robbery, sure I’d use it in defense. But I would have to ultimately trust in God that I’d have my wits about me to be able to do that. (Loading and chambering a bullet/shell is not as fast a process as you might think when you are in a situation.)

Yes, obviously more innocent people are shot than criminals. That’s because it’s the criminals doing the shooting.
I agree. Germany has some of the strictest gun control laws in the world and as a result, the number of deaths by guns in Germany is enormously lower than in the USA.
I recently watched a show about gun violence decreasing in Europe as a result of gun control. This trend was matched with an equally INCREASING rate of violence using other weapons, such as knives, bats, etc… Criminals aren’t detered by laws…hence the fact that we have crime. If you make one of theri weapons of choice become hard to find, they just switch to another weapon of choice. Cain didn’t need a gun to kill Abel did he?
