Why are there mutterings of discontent within the Catholic clergy towards our Pope?

I agree with you in both regards to Pope Francis and Donald Trump. That does not preclude them from acting in a similar way.

As an aside, would you be willing to ask for a blessing on both of them?

Do you believe Jesus would allow an Apostle to die that way, even though He redeemed Judas?

Redemption requires our free will.

So if Judas, in the last moments, had remorse and prayed out to Jesus, do you believe He would allow him to still die?

I dont. And the language used by Scripture doesnt support that. Peter would not say “this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside, to go to his own place.”

I believe their is hope from above. And then their is misguided hope.

It’s good to not wish for anyone’s condemnation. I certainly dont. But that doeant mean it’s a virtuous intention to hope Judas turned to God. Because the Apostles and Jesus would not have spoken the way they did, if they had hope in his redemption.

In the olden days it was believed that suicides were in hell. They weren’t allowed to have a Catholic funeral or be buried in Catholic cemeteries. However through the Holy Spirit our understanding of Gods mercy has developed to relieve us of that terrible conclusion. We can now live in the hope that there can be mitigating circumstances to reduce the gravity of a persons sin and allow for redemption.

Yes, I understand. Can you focus on Jesus’, and the Apostle’s words though?

Jesus allowed other 10 apostles to die in worse ways.
Their deaths were honorable.

Having or not an honorable death isn’t indicative of the eternal fate of anyone. Crucifixion was considered a curse among the jews but nevertheless God Himself was crucified and resurrected.

I think you there is wisdom in your post. Lol
Of course modern media and other factors plays at authenticity and acceptance negatively regardless of corresponding circumstance in history.

Jesus’ death was honorable. Judas’ was not.

The indication of his eternal fate is not only his suicide, but the words and account of Jesus and the Apostles, St Augustine, St Thomas, St Catherine, and others.

Jesus did not directly address his fate. The others, holy as they are, do not have an inside track on the mystery of God’s grace and mercy. Not in terms of individual salvation.

Ever read Matthew 25:35-46.
It is the only place in the Gospel where Judgement, and punishment to heaven or hell is set out in detail.
The Judgement has Jesus sitting on the throne in Judgement.
He seperated EVERYONE on his left and right.
The goats on the left, consigned to hell.
I have one question I am not sure anyone can answer.
Isn’t this the Judgement of “everyone” being described in this passage? You are goat, or lamb/sheep( whichever the favored was).
Well
There isn’t a seperate Judgement for some is there?( Saints maybe ) Like special and general population. Just one described Judgement.
And if it is true there is just this one, it is for everyone.
And if it is for everyone we are all judged lamb or goat. And consigned.
Then there is Jesus criteria for judgement.
The well known " least of my brothers"
Things like food, shelter, care when sick, and welcoming the stranger. Visiting in prison. ( The welcome stranger criteria is especially pertinent I think in our age of the wall and the sick, our age of health care reform, but that isn’t relevant here)
What is relevant is a test based on a life of interaction with the least of my brother. Not a word about Baptism or belief. Apparently the point is you are, or aren’t doing for Jesus without even appreciating it. I find the very detailed description of Judgement what is interesting. But most interesting is this:
There really is no tribal advantage being a Catholic. Membership and tribal issues are not mentioned. Catholic stuff and belief does not seem to factor in. We are the same as everybody else waiting to be judged.

To the original question about mutterings of discontent: There are some very concerning things PF has said, like in Amoris Laetitia, about giving communion to divorced and remarried Catholics.

This was the issue that the four cardinals raised the “dubia” or doubts about the exact meaning of AL and whether it was consistent with traditional Catholic practice and belief.

In general, I recommend you read the dispatches online from Church Militant, LifeSiteNews, Taylor Marshall on youtube, The Remnant, Return to Tradition, to name a few.

My own muttering about the Church, the Pope, and the U.S. bishops is that they have not addressed the global sex abuse and sexual misconduct issues adequately. They have not dealt directly with finding and dismissing homosexual priesrs – after all, ther have been policies that no homosexual men were to be ordained as priess, and that has nonetheless happened in a lot of places.

This really requires it’s own thread!

Can you please start one? I think you could articulate these thoughts a little better. But I think you have some assumptions arent entirely accurate.

Edit: sorry, I meant “aren’t accurate”

I don’t recall if those exact words were used. It doesn’t sound right.
