Hi, Mdgspencer,

To my way of thinking it all orbits around what has been learned … by us and by NDU.

I think it is very optomistic to think President Obama will learn anything about the value of UNBORN life - if he is on record of advocating infantacide!

Seriously, if anything has been learned by NDU, they have gone to great lenght to make sure the basket used to cover their lamp is airtight! Of course…with no air… that lamp will go out!

God bless
I believe that we are the ones who are learning. I don’t know if ND is learning. So I won’t speak for them. I feel that the President is not learning.

But the rest of us are learning. We have to find more effective ways communicating with each other so that everyone is on the same page and our statements are as airtight as ND’s shelter.

But what does God really want? A million Christians who did not commit abortion because it was illegal? Or 2 Christians who did not commit abortion because they chose not to?

I think the answer is clear… We waste time and resources trying to achieve lower murders through the judiciary system, while what God really wants is actions that are the result of the love He wants us to show to the unborn babies and to one another.

One could argue that the unborn babies should have the chance to live and grow into christians… very true, but there are ways to achieve that, say maybe encouraging frightened mothers-to-be to give them up for adoption or into orphanages and such. We all hate abortion, especially those who have found themselves having fallen for the temptation to abort. But may he who has never sinned throw the first stone.

The Presidents should not even have to ban abortion, if our work as christians was being done…preaching and ensuring we reach the hearts of frightened mothers to be.

Lets go out there and reach those hearts, and let the Governments deal with admin issues. To Caesar what is Caesar’s. Souls are for God and Christians should be out there getting them. But not through banning things. ITs the fundamental difference between Christianity and you know who.

Hi, Kwashic,

Welcome to CAF! 🙂 I enjoyed reading your post. 🙂 I think you will find this site to be both dynamic and a real source for both information and inspiration! 👍

I do not think there is much to argue about on your post. Turning distressed mother-to-be from becoming murderers-to-be is really where the action lies… not with the judicary. Personally, I would like to see the individual diocese have multiple homes for troubled pregnant women where they can have their babies safely delivered and either keep the child or put them up for adoption. I certainly hope that this is not taken the wrong way - but, there are individuals who act as ‘brokers’ in getting pregnant women and adopting couples together. Money does change hands and it looks like everyone gets what they want - as a baby is not aborted. I see not reason why the Church could not run a similar service so that at least its costs are covered.

Please explain the part about "But may he who has never sinned throw the first stone " The famous “Jane Roe” of Roe v Wade (in)fame was arrested yesterday for disrupting Congress (verbally throwing a stone?) as she made herself known at the Senate Confirmation Hearings for Judge Sotomayor. Here is a link from NCR…could not find the item on “Roe” being arrested: ncregister.com/daily/some_questions_for_sotomayor/

God bless

For information on the Jenkins/ND part of the dialogue at the commencement, see the text of Father Jenkins’ introduction. The first source that appeared when I googled was

boston.com/news/local/articles_of_faith/2009/05/rev_jenkinss_re.html

I doubt very much that President Obama will ever change his opinion on the availability of abortion. I do believe that he sees reducing the number of abortions as good public and social policy. As a beginning, we can work together with him toward this goal. But it is a political reality that unless our form of government changes from that of a democratic republic into a theocracy controlled by the Catholic Church, abortion will never be outlawed.

Polls on the subject of abortion have shown a remarkable stability over the years:

1: About 75% of the people believe that abortion should be allowed in some cases.
2: About 75% of the people believe that abortion on demand should not be allowed.
3: About 25% of the people believe that abortion on demand should be allowed.
4: About 25% of the people believe that abortion should not be allowed in any case.

In my opinion, you will never get a significant number of people to agree to prohibit abortion in cases of rape or incest or in cases when the mother’s life is in danger. While estimates vary, these cases constitute at most 2-3% of all abortions. The real question is whether it is possible to get 60% of the people to agree on a subset of the “some cases” in 1: that will reduce the number of abortions to around 10% of the current total.

This is a common refrain from pro abortion people. It ignores the greater danger to humans who accept abortion as part of their moral fabric. Such an acceptance dehumanizes their fellow humans and makes it difficult for them to love one another as Jesus loved us, fully.

The reduction of abortions argument ignores the moral deadening of the human race that sees killing a human in his mother’s womb to be somehow and acceptable choice.

Which is worse? A human aborted or a human eternally separated from God because he thinks it okay to choose to kill humans in the womb and so saw all his fellow humans as tools, as intelligent evolved apes with brains, not images of God, not unique beings, but part of the overpopulation problem?

There is much more at work here than simply the tragedy of the physical act of abortion, horrible as that is. The Obama argument ignores the deeper horror of the dehumanizing impact of allowing abortion as a morally acceptable choice. He ignores the gravity and ontological reality of the sin itself and the damage of sin to the human soul.

The soul? :bible1:
If we could all realize that pro lifers don’t just try and save a baby but they also try and save the soul of all those that commit a mortal sin.
I knew some one that told me here son’s girlfriend was pregnant, she told him to go with her to have an abortion for they were not responsible enough to have a baby. They thought that was a good idea. It is free in this country my taxes pay for that {Angry]
I told this lady in a loving way [and I confess it’s not easy] that was a grave sin; I explain the teaching of our faith yes that’s right she is a catholic and goes to church receives Jesus.
I said to her my concern is your soul eternal life I am not judging you but I have to speak the truth if you receive his body you will eat and drink your own condemnation.
I want you to live for all eternity not just a lousy at most 100 years on earth.
She panicked when I told her, for a moment she thought of hell and she said what can I do to be forgiven,
I said with a humble and contrite heart you need to confess she asked me if I can take her to another priest.
Of course I did, when she came out she didn’t look happy and she sat there I asked her if she was ok, she said the priest didn’t forgive me and said my sin remains, she continued he asked me if I regret what I did and I sad no because they are too immature to have a baby, then the priest said unless you realize what you have done then your sin remains, please go home pray and ask God to open your eyes.
For all that truly believe in God and eternal life pray and defend those babies they need us, so to do the ones that commit this Evil the devil loves abortions. There is no excuse untimely God gave us free will but if every thing is made so easy and portrayed as sinless from our politician. Then we are in for a huge chastisement surely the cup is full
fr Jenkins should have been more concerned about eternal life

I would like to offer you a piece of moral advice, just like you did to your friend. When someone discusses with you what they discussed in the confessional, whether they were absolved or not, it is strictly confidential. You must be very careful not to give so many details that you run the risk of giving away the person’s identity. Someone can read this and say, “Hey I know that person!” You see what I mean?

With regard to post # 345 on this list, the statement
Code:
         * I explain the teaching of our faith yes that’s right she is a catholic and goes to church receives Jesus.*
indicates an extreme likelihood that the woman in question did not realize the seriousness of her support. At last glance, this means that the three criteria for a mortal sin have not been met. And no matter how much guilt you push on her, we still do not have retroactive sin in the Church.

Even worse, you didn’t just break, you obliterated the Seal of Confession by posting your interaction with this person in a place where a web crawler will soon make them available to millions of people, if it hasn’t done so already. That is why I did not include the entire post in this reply. Having it on the list twice is bad enough.

Someone indeed is in need of spiritual counsel.

As you can see there is no mention of names, place, or town, for obvious reasons.
You state “No matter how much guilt is pushed”. On the contrary God’s mercy is at the center of all, not guilt.
Please look up the teaching of the obliterated the Seal of Confession, before you judge.

Hi, Recondelta,

Welcome to CAF … I think you will find this a dynamic and inspirational forum. 🙂

Now, let’s see what we have here… 😃

As a beginning, we can work together with him toward this goal. But it is a political reality that unless our form of government changes from that of a democratic republic into a theocracy controlled by the Catholic Church, abortion will never be outlawed. .
You are aware that prior to 1973 and the Roe v Wade decision, abortion was not the law of the land and abortion on demand was in fact illegal in most of the states (30) and legal in only a few (4) here is a link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_in_the_United_States.

This all took place without the Catholic Church taking control of the US Government and forming a theocracy! I think what is actually being seen is a real change in our attitudes and outlook in the 36 years and the millions and millions of murdered innocent lives that have been simply trashed for convenience.

By the way, there are religions, other then the Catholic Church, that consider abortion to be morally wrong.

Unless I am reading too much into your post, for someone claiming to be a Catholic, you certainly have a edge in your post about the postition of the Catholic Church. Do you think that is necessary? 🤷

While I do not question your stats, it is helpful if you provide a reference. Thanks.

This is really going back to attitude and outlook. Just what is the attitude and outlook of most citizens when it comes to innocent fetal life? We are probably significantly behind every curve out there! The latest stat I came across is that a growing proportion of all abortions (reported?) are now done with drugs like RU-486…(usatoday.com/news/health/2008-01-16-abortion-rates_N.htm ) but, this is neither simple or without risk (nrlc.org/abortion/ASMF/asmf6.html and abortiontv.com/Methods/RU486TheQuick.htm)

One of the unreported aspects of this abortion disaster is the number of women who suffer mental health problems as a direct result of the abortion. While the abortion industry would like to have their view of murder seen as no more involved as removing unwanted tissue (like removing a cancer) - this does not hold up for most women months and years after the event. Major Depressive Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder are real problems that follow these real murders.

Changing our view of life - and how to appreciate it - will have a direct impact on the abortion industry. There is no need to change our form of government.

God bless

My religious community is exclusively involved in pro-life ministry. We work with pregnancy centers in the diocese, teach new parents to be good Catholic parents, provide housing and medical care for pregnant mothers who have no resources or support, run a school for disabled children who were rescued from abortion, and we even provide furniture and clothing for the mothers and their children. We get parishes to support us with money and manpower.

The reason that I’m sharing this is to drive home a point. You can sanitize abortion by calling it anything you want: terminating the pregnancy, removing a mass of tissue, preserving the life of the mother, and so forth. But the bottom line is that if something moves the conscience of this many people, there has to be something intrinsically wrong and the human psyche is responding to it innately, without anyone pushing it to react. In other words, the response to abortion is due to the fact that it is an antagonist to the human mind, where the conscience resides. It is not man who is saying “this is wrong.” It is our inner voice. In order to shut it up, we have to deceive our mind with sterile language or justifications.

Even the argument, “protecting the mother’s lfie” is contrary to the inner movement of any parent’s conscience. How many parents really place their life over that of their children? It only happens when someone convinces you that it is not your child, but a foreign growth inside you, like a virus or tumor. Of course, since you do not see it, you can buy into it more easily.

However, the old addage, out of sight, out of mind, does not always work. One of my ministries, besides running the school for rescued children with disabilities is post abortion counseling for dads. Yes, you read that right. I do post abortion counseling for dads. I am never short of clients. Dads go through tremendous crises after their child has been killed by an abortion. This is not induced by social conventions. This distress and emotional trauma rises from within the depth of the individual. It’s very difficult to help heal, because it’s not a mental illness. There is nothing to heal. It is the conscience lashing out. In all my years in ministry, my greatest challenge is an angry conscience. I’m not speaking about scrupulous. That’s a psychological problem. But righteous indignation that comes from the conscience is very difficult to quiet down. How do you tell the conscience that it is wrong, when it is right?

There are too many psychological, metaphysical and spiritual forces that are unleashed when a person engages in abortion, too many to simply brush it away with laws that claim to be helpful and to protect women from back alley abortions.

Br. JR, OSF 🙂

I am Catholic yet I believe in diversity of thought, belief and action. If God wanted to make us uniform he would have done so. I don’t understand those Catholics who do nothing but obsess on abortion. What do they want? Do they want abortions criminalized? Do they want people sent to prison? Abortion is a symptom of our disturbed society. Sometimes I feel that my fellow Catholics are not intelligent. Why can they not grasp that abortion is the end result of their very cold hearted approach to sinners? If Catholics were not always condemning sinners instead of helping them and loving them we would not be in this very situation. If people want to perform abortions, we must try to help them not force, belittle, criminalize, hurt them or demonize them. They are often afraid of poverty and suffering for themselves and for the child. Isn’t this a legitimate fear. Don’t people who have children often live in poverty? What do you do to help the American poor? Most Catholics are only concerned with helping the poor in Latin America and Asia. They are blind to their fellow American’s suffering!

What pretentious goody-two-shoes. In my church, many women came out against FOCA. I probed to discover what they were doing FOR those young women who are pregnant or are likely to become pregnant with an undesired child. Their answer was: Oh, we don’t get involved in that end. There’s a priest who talks to them. I say to all of you anti-abortion people: If you want to end abortion, help a young girl. Befriend young vulnerable women, or offer them money and goods to help them get theirs lives in order. Pay for their educations, send them to training schools, get them off the streets. Sending them to prison, punishing them and shaming them is NOT okay, it’s not what Jesus would have done, and it’s not true Catholicism.

As for attacking a Obama, this is just closet racism, in my opinion. Don’t we have a right to have two parties? Are we a totalitarian state? Democrats are almost always pro-abortion, since it recognizes personal freedom. You all realize that Obama would never have been elected if he did not condone abortion. That’s what the Democrats wanted. This is a democratic state, this is a pluralist system. We are not in Nazi Germany. The people have a right to govern themselves and make bold choices for their future. People also have the freedom to sin. God Himself gave us this freedom, allowing us to choose and to possibly err. Who are you republicans to take this freedom away from the American people and make it a crime to sin? What is next? Will it become a crime to commit adultery? Will it become a crime to covet? While we recognize these things to be wrong, we can not impose our values upon the individual and take away his/her right to choose. How dare you propose to take away what God Himself has given us? If you keep this up you are going to destroy a great nation. Then we will no longer be America but some ruthless, horrid police state.

*Hello Shocking!

I have had time to reflect. Although I probably would not have voted for Obama because I do believe Abortion to be murder I have to ask myself what would Jesus do? We judge all things from a human perspective while Jesus judges from a divine perspective because He sees inside people.

Shocking I really think that your posting deserves deep, deep reflection because you are thinking more like Jesus. Jesus befriended prostitutes and tax collectors and he never judged them - he loved them. We expect God to act with human responses but His ways are not our ways His thoughts are not our thoughts.

If we are to love our neighbour as we have been commanded to do we would do as you suggest: befriend, help, console, assist those who are feeling desperate and helpless.

Perhaps we should not say that a person should not present themselves for communion because he/she is pro-choice etc. As you said we have been given free will and told to choose. So noone has the right to criticise anyone for what he/she does. We ought to just love them as Jesus would do.

I am a revert to the Catholic Church and as I learn more about my faith I become more orthodox but now I ask myself “Was Jesus orthodox?”

You are so right and I thank you for your posting and I hope that other posters will also think and reflect and, above all, LOVE.

Thank you
Blessings

Well, I do believe that different approaches could be taken. But abortion is an issue that cannot be accepted because of it’s savagery and brutallity. If we stopped speaking out against it, the pro-choice side would consider it a victory. People like Obama would consider opposition crushed and would believe that he can do more things about it because we don’t stand in his way. We can’t stop fighting it because, believe it or not, it would get worse. We are actually doing something here. We are the last barrier. I’m sure Obama cares about the opinions of at least 10% of the American population. If everyone “agreed” then it would only increase his liberty.

I recommend you listen to Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s Catholic Catechism on Human Freedom. I also recommend you read CA’s Abortion article and the CE’s Abortion article. Everything that I could possibly tell you is right there.

I would give you links but you’re probably not going to use them, so…

I think that Shocking is not saying that we must not fight abortion. I think she is saying that perhaps you should use different methods - love, caring, assistance, support, instead of being judgmental. The struggle continues but with different approach.

When I look back at some of the things I did in the past I value situations where I was able to turn a situation around and turn an enemy into a friend. Perhaps Notre Dame should have used the occasion to evangelize and influence Obama. It is not impossible.

If I am wrong then perhaps Shocking will enlighten me.

This is certainly a thought-provoking post. However, what if the word abortion was changed to the word murder? Would this be a legitimate political position? Would we be wrong to condemn it as evil? There are governments who have murdered innocent people as public policy in various ways, besides abortion. There are some things a society should never accept and government leaders never promote.

Kudos to Shocking. He (or she) brings reason to a very complex problem. Do we want to criminalize abortion and put guilty women in jail? Most of them go through enough suffering as it is. Abortions usually occur when people become desperate.
Code:
Besides, most Americans believe that under certain conditions abortions are the lesser evil.

A couple examples - from real life. Several downs syndrome boys had sexual relations with a downs syndrome girl of 14, all of them in a special program. She is ignorant of possible consequences and becomes pregnant. The parents of the girl are horrified. They don't believe in abortion but who is going to want the baby of two people with downs syndrome and risk introducing the gene into the blood line? After much prayer and conflict they opt for an abortion. Who should be jailed? The parents? The girl? The persons in charge of the program? The downs syndrome boys who have sexual relations with her, teens themselves? The doctor? You probably would say the doctor - at least. But was the abortion under such circumstances wrong? What would happen to the baby? What sort of life is s/he likely to have? At least an abortion, as sad as it is, will lead that infant into eternal paradise.

Another example. A good Catholic couple have seven children. They use church-approved periodic abstinence to avoid pregnancy. It doesn't work. She gets pregnant. Her doctor has indicated that she is likely to lose her life if she gives birth, leaving seven young children motherless. Her priest tells her she must bear the child. Reluctantly she and her husband leave the church and she has an abortion. They become bitter foes of the Catholic Church for what they feel is unreasonableness.

Still another thought. Millions of abortions (maybe most?) are miscarriages. Nature (God?) determines that the infant is going to be malformed or there will be some other critical problem and the pregnancy should not go the full term. If God can abort in this fashion, well.... you get the problem.

President Obama may be wrong, but he has said that he is interested in reducing the number of abortions. I for one am not sure I want to go back to those days when abortions were done in back alleys, too often under filthy and even criminal circumstances.

Notre Dame should be proud of its president as I am proud that America has moved far enough to elect a Black person as our president. I pray for him and his family daily, and I suggest that you do, too.

God bless the whole world, people of every faith, and especially those who are hungry or homeless, sick or saddened. Religion should be a bridge and not a barrier.

I am Catholic yet I believe in diversity of thought, belief and action.
I too am a Catholic who believes in diversity of thought, belief and action. I’m not sure of your point except to suggest that most Catholics are somehow narrow-minded because the Church teaches that abortion is a horrible crime against the innocent.
I don’t understand those Catholics who do nothing but obsess on abortion. What do they want? Do they want abortions criminalized? Do they want people sent to prison? Abortion is a symptom of our disturbed society.
You are simplifying and minimizing the issue. Just because there are many faithful Catholics who fight against the scourge of abortion doesn’t mean they “do nothing but obsess on abortion.” The same could be said for groups like NOW and NARAL – talk about obsessing on nothing but abortion! Do you understand those people?

I agree that abortion is a symptom of a disturbed society, but it is also a result of individual decisions made every day to end the life of innocent children. Whether they should be sent to prison or criminalized is a question for the political and judicial process. As for the Church and “obsessed” Catholics, the goal is to end this mass death. Was the Holocaust just a symptom of a disturbed society? Did that absolve those with the blood on their hands?

Your whole approach screams of a desire to minimize the issue of abortion.
So you’re saying that opposition to abortion imposes some other obligation on those who fight against it? While helping young, pregnant women is laudable, it is not a necessary moral imperative to those who oppose abortion. I will grant that providing help and prayer to young, pregnant women can go a long way to reducing abortions, but that is a side issue. Morally speaking, opposition to abortion is sufficient cause to speak out by itself. There doesn’t need to be any other action.
As for attacking a Obama, this is just closet racism, in my opinion. Don’t we have a right to have two parties? Are we a totalitarian state?
So Obama is above criticism? The “right to have two parties” cuts both ways. During the Bush administration, “attacks” were a daily event from the Democrats. Were they legitimate? Maybe, maybe not. However, I do believe it was the Dems who floated the entire notion that opposition to the President was the highest form of Patriotism. It works both ways. Waving the racism flag is a cop-out. The Dems are in power, both in Congress and the Executive Branch. How is opposition by the right turning us into Nazis? That’s just partisan histrionics and doesn’t help make your case for allowing abortion.

You reference freedom – I love the Church’s teaching on the concept of freedom. Freedom isn’t the ability to do what you want, but the ability to do what is right.

It saddens me that you claim to be a Catholic, but seem ready to excuse those who use their “freedom” to “choose” to take the life of the innocent unborn.

Do you believe life is a gift from God? Do you disagree that abortion is a scourge and should be resisted through the political process? How do YOU propose to stop this moral crime, by putting conditions on those who are against it? Abortion is an absolute wrong. Don’t try to mitigate it by viewing it through the prism of the contemporary political process.

Tcm22 How true, :o
As Catholic’s we all pray for the mothers as well as the babies, [that have the right to live]. In my country there is financial, spiritual, and housing assistance for struggling mums, to be honest a lot are actually better off than a family with only a one wage earner.
I don’t mind paying tax to support children for schooling, clothing, and food it is the basic needs for their lives. I do however oppose paying taxes for abortions.
Only God judges, I as many, do not judge rather we always pray to God that sins maybe forgiven as Christ’s blood was shed for all.
We can not however just say oh well bad luck each to their own, instead of the saying “live and let live”, we may as well say “oh well die and let die”.
We are responsible for our own actions the church does teach the billing method or perhaps abstinence.
Everything that the church teaches is freedom, and for the good of all humanity to simply go against the fundamental teaching of life, will surely lead us all to become ungodly.
It is impossible to separate the western world from the church’s teaching for it was based on the teachings of Jesus that our world became civilized.
Love one another as I have loved you. So let’s love the angels in the womb.

I’d like to speak to some of the points that Shocking makes in his/her last paragraph. Let’s hope that we can see this more clearly.
As for attacking a Obama, this is just closet racism, in my opinion.
That is an opinion and you may be right about some people. However, there are many of us who have always been critical of any political leader in any nation who supports abortion. Thus we are being consistent in this case.
The Church does not want a duplication of Nazi Germany or Communist China for that matter. However, every government must be rooted in moral principles. When a political party oversteps its bounds on a moral principal, its position is rendered iligitimate. Good government is also good ethics. Only good ethics can lead to justice for every person.

If Mr. X’s election hinges on abortion, it is still immoral for Mr. X to support abortion to get elected. Moral law allows only one choice, the higher good. Winning an election to put forward a series of good social reforms is good. Mr. Obama certainly has some very good ideas and presents some challenging questions on social reforms. However, none of those reforms truns the righ to be born, because if you give the individual or the state the power to decide who should or who should not be born, you are giving away the right upon which all other rights rest.

The right to life is the first right of any human being. The right to good healthcare, to live in peace, to employment, to prosperity all apply to those whose right to be born was secured. When government fails to secure a person’s right to be born, it fails to secure these other rights, except for a select nuimber. That is immoral.

This is not about creating another facist state. It’s about avoiding one. A state where the right of every human being is not protected is a state that is in conflict with the message of the Gospel and is in fact a form of neo-facism.
The people have a right to govern themselves and make bold choices for their future.
Making bold choices and making evil choices are not the same thing. No where is the right to choose evil respected or protected, not even in scripture. What Christ does allow is for conversion. He does not stone the sinner, but he calls the sinner to sin no more. He does not protect the sinner’s right to sin.
People also have the freedom to sin. God Himself gave us this freedom, allowing us to choose and to possibly err.
God gives us freedom, he does not give us the right to sin. There is a fundamental difference between freedom and right. Freedom comes from the Latin, “libertas” and right comes from the Latin “rectus”. When we read in scripture and in the writings of the Fathers of the Church about freedom they are talking about using one’s will. But it’s interesting that they take the word libertas to descibe the use of the will. Because the root of the word “libertas” comes fromt he word, “liber”, which means book. The book to which the Fathers of the Church referred was the scripture. So they only act of the will that could be tolerated by the Christian was that act that was according to the book or according to the scriptures. Abortion is certaiinly contrary to the scriptures.

Now, let’s look at the word right from the Latin “rectus”, which means the straight path. So a right, in Christian tradition means to follow the straight path. When one deviates from the straight path or a nation deviates from the straight path, they are no longer in the right and are not truly exercising a right. They are abusing the term “right” to justify their actions.
Who are you republicans to take this freedom away from the American people and make it a crime to sin?
This is not Republican issue. It is a worldwide issue. The Church is not American. It is Catholic. Abortion is not only in the USA. It is global. We are not defending the right to life of American unborn children, but of all the unborn.
What is next? Will it become a crime to commit adultery?
It is in some countries. It may be a good idea to see it return to the USA again. By the way, it is still a crime in the Armed Forces of the USA. Be that as it may, it may protect some families and protect the rights of spouses from cheaters.
How dare you propose to take away what God Himself has given us?
God has not given us the right to kill. In fact the Jews thought they had that right and Jesus proved them wrong.
If you keep this up you are going to destroy a great nation. Then we will no longer be America but some ruthless, horrid police state.
Great nations destroy themselves when they fail to protect the God-given rights of their citizens. When nations take it upon themselves to determine what rights a citizen has and which ones his does not have, completely turning their back on the natural rights of man, that nation is destined for the fall. Read Russeau and Jefferson.
