Why can't Muslims take a joke?

Also, the question I asked yesterday is pertinent. That question was, “Who gains power when the Muslim terrorists attack?”

The Christians certainly don’t. The Muslims don’t either. I believe it embarasses the majority of Muslims and makes their lives more dangerous. Would you protest these things knowing your head might be cut off for doing so? That wedding that was bombed in Iraq - wasn’t it a Muslim wedding?

There is an agenda here. Elements: Oil; the Media, urging towards religous strife over differences; Europe. The country that printed the cartoons is known for being a very secular society. (Denmark). Why push the buttons in a time like this?

In my opinion, you have to be educated and intelligent to appreciate humor. It seems that the only education many muslims have is in their religion.
Lance, my name is Gerard. Your comment only serves to compound the perception of an arrogant Western myopic of which many of my friends who are muslim encounter so regularly. The tone of your post seems to suggest that you seek to gain a measure of security in at least two things: The manner of your collusion with the author of the original question was base at best. It offered readers no argument…just the sweeping, emotionally uneducated statement that THEY appear to have no education except their religion (my dear friend, Moutaz - a sincere muslim and fellow Warrior of Light sits opposite me(smiling broadly), working on his final year of his Masters).

Whilst the authors’ statement a little spurious and much reliant upon ‘the wisom of the world’(a little ‘exestensialist’ flexing of muscle there, no?), it at least provided the reader with material, or food, if you will. He was at least presented a CASE. At any rate, IF it were the case that Muslims were educated in nought but the teachings of Qu’ran, Hadith and Islamic liturgy(or even the blessed tradition of the Sufi for that matter), exactly what would be the problem? Lance, have you read the Holy Qu’ran? Do you know any of prophet Muhammad’s teachings? Remember (or look up even) the meaning of the arabic word ‘Islam’ please.

My Lord is recorded as saying ‘whoever does not become as a little child, cannott enter into the Kingdom of heaven’. Education and the blessing of the comprehensive organ is a gift from our Father, yet is it neccesary to enter the kingdom? St.Paul, as you know, but have simply forgotten, said that God chose the ‘broken vessels’ of this world that His power may be made manifest.

I’d like to pass on (if you’ll allow) the advice that my aforementioned friend gave me to read the wonderful little book ‘Contemplations of an idiot’ which was the autobiograpical writings of the…

ahimsaman72, again, I like your posts. You’re the only one on these forums urging moderation. There’s alot of emotion on both sides.
Thank you again Ella. Moderation and understanding are the keys here. If we (collectively as a group of nations) take emotion out of the picture and seek FACTS and reconciliation there is hope. The continued stereotyping and name calling and violence are all wrong - all wrong.

I feel like someone with arms outstretched to the West (Christian and secular) and to the east (Muslims and Arabs) trying to keep both from coming to blows and insults and want to scream, STOP!!! to both sides. It reminds me of kids on a playground fighting over one calling the other a *** and the surrounding kids egging them on to violence. It has to stop - both the words and violence.

I am thankful that others like yourself see moderation as the path to diffuse this situation.

I call on all people everywhere to respect each other and pursue peace! all people!!

Peace…

That’s right. The minority Muslim extremists are making life hell for both other Muslims and the West. They are controlling things right now. They shame their religion and their fellow human brothers.

You see right now in Iraq a growing civil war atmosphere. The extremists want a stricter Islamic state and are willing to deface their religion and kill others to get their way. It’s obviously the wrong way. Both the leaders of Muslim nations and mosques should band together and call for this to end (many already have) and enforce it. And the western media needs to stop printing the cartoons!

In high school my family and I had a Danish foreign exchange student live with us for a couple years. He flew over for my wedding and continues to be a part of our lives. His countrymen and leaders are very secular. They have nude beaches, a socialist government and liberal morals. They are highly intelligent people. His learning at our high school level was what he learned in junior high.

There is a news story going on right now where the creator of the caricatures has been interviewed and does not feel the least bit sorry about them. If I would have done anything - even if I had the best intentions but it somehow caused riots and death, I would feel horrible about it and do SOMETHING! to curtail the effect.

My question is identical to yours, “Why push the buttons at a time like this?” So that he can express his free speech?!

Thank you for your levelheadedness!

Peace…

Governments in the west do not control the press media. Im sure if they did there would not be this sort of cartoon characterization. But in western democracies we have a freedom of the press, at least for the present, and this sort of thing will present itself from time to time. The abolition of a free press is only a stepping stone to other personal freedoms being done away with. If you live in the west then we all have to grin and bear it sometimes when an article or picture or whatever shows its ugly head, but that is the price of freedom. It may be in very bad taste but thats what democracies are all about.

I don’t see what this has to do with my previous post. I have said on a couple of posts that censorship is not the answer. I realize that Western governments do not control their press. I wouldn’t want them to force the press to report one way or the other.

All I continue to say is that people have to think of the consequences before they report on what they have to report on. And, they must be willing to accept those consequences once they do happen. This is for both the rioting Muslims and the reporter. These people are morally responsible for attacking these embassies and their criminal conduct and should be controlled and denounced for their actions.

I simply want others who are “pro-reporter or pro-cartoons” to see both sides of this issue. I see a lot of condemnations of the rioters from people but not many condemnations of the cartoonist. That is part of the tragedy of all this. People see nothing wrong with the cartoons. That’s just wrong.

Peace…

There is no accounting for poor taste. Cartoons depicting religious leaders of any bent should be avoided, but thats just me. There are secular, atheistic, agnostic writers who could not care a wit about embarrasing portrayals of religion and their leaders and I think it all has to do with sensationalism. The more depraved the cartoon or article the better these folks like it. But, this is life, and I dont see any end to it.
