Why can't the Jewish rebuild their temple?

Amen v’amen!

Just a couple of points I’d like to bring out:
  1. So many people have spoken of animal sacrifices not being acceptable… but that’s not all that was given in the Temple. There were grain offerings and various libations, as well as the incense offering, which was offered on the golden altar inside the Temple itself… not in the courtyard where the animal sacrifices were offered. Where does Scripture say that G-d doesn’t desire these offerings?
  2. What are we to make of Ezekiel’s vision of a Third Temple if it isn’t supposed to be constructed at some time in the future? (Ezekiel 40-43)
I have no idea. But, I also think there is another prophet who said something about Egypt being wiped out, and that never happened either. So, I guess failed prophecy abounds.

Very interesting. Could you elaborate more?
The Book of Revelation uses a lot of temple symbology but applies it in a mystical and celestial manner. The Kingdom of Heaven accomplished by the Lord Christ at His Ascension is the Third Temple. To use more temple symbology, the Lord Christ, the Inhominated Word, is the substance of the New Covenant and is comparable to the tablets the Ten Commandments were written upon. His mother, she who bore and gave birth to this substance of the New Covenant, can be compared to the Ark. She is even referred to as the Ark of the New Covenant in Church Tradition.

So, the Third Temple was built almost 2,000 years ago by the Holy Trinity. We are able to participate in the life of the Third Temple by the various Sacred Mysteries of the Church by which the Holy Spirit unites us to the Inhominated Word.

I shall raise it up again in three days.

simple enough for me to even understand.👍

Unfortunately it is a view that I am frequently hated for.

Supersessionism makes a lot of peoples’ blood boil, for some reason.

Some Jews argued against Christians post-Resurrection in that they asked, How can a third Temple exist if the second Temple is not yet destroyed? It’s a good question, and one Jesus answered pre-Resurrection when He said the Temple would be destroyed. Moreover, God seems to enjoy working backwards or in paradoxes: He creates the third Temple before the second is destroyed and He makes Mary holy before the Redemption of man. I like the way He works: it glorifies God and it makes you think, give praise, and rely on the Lord.

Did you expect to find agreement with me on this point?
Redemption could not occur until that moment on the cross, so I am baffled by your question to Eucharisted.

I am not understanding something here I guess.:o

I do comprehend that God can work outside of time, but I really do not understand this objection if you could elaborate agiosotheos, it would help.

In light of certain comments here I believe it is important to clarify the following point. Over the centuries Jewish houses of worship have been destroyed by people holding different beliefs. The Jewish state of Israel is dedicated to the right of freedom of worship to all its citizens and protection of all holy sites of all religions. I do not know if the Temple will ever be rebuilt. However, it should be stated unequivocally, that whatever our political or religious differences, neither the Dome of the Rock or the Al Alqsa mosque, will ever be damaged in any way to allow for the rebuilding of the Temple. The policy to prevent damage to a place of worship, is not predicated on our ability to inflict such damage, rather it is a matter of our morals, beliefs and policy.

  1. I assumed that his post was an indication of asserting the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. Given that he claims to be an adherent to the dogmatic tradition of Rome and given that he mentioned Mary being made holy before the redemption of Man, I doubt I was wrong in that assumption. And in case I haven’t made it clear enough yet, I am a strong opponent of the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception.
  2. I do not agree that the redemption of Man began on the Cross. The idea that redemption could not begin until the Cross is completely contrary to the understanding of the Atonement of some of the Church Fathers, Irenaeus of Lyons included. The way I see it, and the way I assume most of my EO & OO brethren see it, is that the redemption of Man began at the Annunciation, namely when the Word first took on a human nature. However, if you are speaking of the completion of the redemption of Man, even then the Cross would not be what we should point to. The Resurrection completed the restoration of our nature in Christ. The Ascension completed the participation of our nature in the life of God. And finally, the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost was the actualization of redemption to the rest of humanity, delivering to us all that Christ had accomplished for us in His human nature. Any of these three could be potentially pointed to as the completion, but I don’t see how the Cross could.
  3. As I said, I believe that Mary inherited ancestral sin at conception. It is a common theory in the EO Tradition (one that I adhere to) that Mary never committed a person sin in her life, and when the Holy Spirit descended up her and overshadowed her at the Annunciation that this effected her purification from ancestral sin. Simultaneously, in the midst of her state of being purified, the Word, always dwelling where the Spirit does, took an instance of our human nature from that of Mary as His own. Given all this, I do not believe that it would be accurate to say that Mary was made holy before the redemption of Man began, as they happened at (about) the same time, and her being made holy actually was the beginning of the redemption of Man.

Don’t you find the following passage to be a rather convincing proof that the blessed L-rd G-D wishes for a terrestrial place to be sanctified for His Glory as well, though? :

" [5] So the spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house.

[6] And I heard him speaking unto me out of the house; and the man stood by me.

[7] And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.

[8] In their setting of their threshold by my thresholds, and their post by my posts, and the wall between me and them, they have even defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have committed: wherefore I have consumed them in mine anger.

[9] Now let them put away their whoredom, and the carcases of their kings, far from me, and I will dwell in the midst of them for ever.

[10] Thou son of man, shew the house to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities: and let them measure the pattern.

[11] And if they be ashamed of all that they have done, shew them the form of the house, and the fashion thereof, and the goings out thereof, and the comings in thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the laws thereof: and write it in their sight, that they may keep the whole form thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and do them." (Ezekiel 43: 5-11)

To my way of seeing, the stress here appears to be on putting aside sinful practices, upon repentance and upon following the instructions of the pattern laid out in previous chapters to “keep the whole form thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and do them,” which doesn’t seem so mystical or celestial to me, but very concrete and direct.

I don’t think we should say “failed prophecy” but rather “[as of yet] unfulfilled prophecy”, as it is said :

" [11] So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it." (Isaiah 55:11)

As for the prophecy to which you are referring, I believe it is the one that deals with the Festival of Sukkot (Tabernacles or Booths), which, in the end of days, will be celebrated by all nations, lest they suffer drought. For any nation which does not go up to Jerusalem, according to the prophet’s word will receive no rain:

" [18} If the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which the LORD smites the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths [or Tabernacles, which is known in Hebrew as the Festival of Sukkoth]." (Zecharia 14:18)

What do I look like, a CAF Mod?

Well, thats just another one. How about the curse on the pharoh that will never happen since there are simply no more pharos, and its bloody unlikely there ever will be any more of them.

Why would that be so unlikely…?
