Why did God prevent Moses from seeing the promised land?

I would certainly like to see the scientific support for that…

Certianly there are known sandstone aquifers under the desert in the Middle East, but that is not the same thing as saying that there are surface rocks laying around that contain water and that one can easily use such water by breaking one open as one would an egg.

… and provide enough water for 1 million people and their livestock?!?

Let’s just clarify that Moses was indeed able to see the promised land, from atop Mount Nebo right before he died.

He just wasn’t able to enter it.

Of course, Moses did finally enter the promised land at the transfiguration.

Just some thoughts after reading this thread. Perhaps God had been withdrawing from Moses in order to prepare him for the close of his mission and the transfer of authority to Joshua. The lack of water points to a dry time materially and spiritually. The anger Moses showed resembles the anger a person shows who feels pressure to perform while feeling inadequate for the task but not wanting that to be exposed. It seems maybe God revealed Moses to himself and it was to prepare him for his death. Thanks for the wonderfull discussion here.

Interesting perspective and something we all face at different points in our life. I often feel inadequate and it is easy to forget that I need not do it all. God works through me and He can do all things. There is also the reality of our mortality and the need to “pass the baton” to the next generation.
