Why Did Jesus Never Get Married

Nothing against Jesus as a single man - don’t flag me, please.
But if Jesus got married -
it seems he could of set a tremendous example - with handling a wife.
As a side note - was Peter ever married - ?
I thought I saw a movie where he was -

Why did Jesus never get married?

He had a perfect relationship with His Heavenly Father, why would he need more?
 
Hardly fair to get married when you know you are going to end up on a cross and leave.
 
Because celibacy is a higher state of life. Jesus possesses the highest degree of the virtues.
 
For one, he was (is) God. That’s a huge obstacle.

“Momma, poppa, I’d like you to meet Jesus. We’re to be married.”
“So, Jesus, what do you do for a living? A father always wants to make sure his little girls is taken care of, you know.”
“I’m God. The Messiah.”
“No, seriously. What do you do?”
 
Most married couples don’t die at the same time, so most of the time one of the spouses would be left alone.

He didn’t have time I’m sure. That wasn’t part of his earthly life mission.
 
All Catholic married men have -
for an biblical example is - it seems -
is Song of Songs - really.

Though The Da Vinci Code - has Jesus -
painted at the Last Supper - with Mary Magdeline, supposedly.
But I never believed that.

Yes, he was. He even had a mother-in-law. She has a cameo role in the Gospels.

As soon as Jesus and His companions had left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever and they promptly told Jesus about her. So He went to her, took her by the hand, and helped her up. The fever left her, and she began to serve them.

I suppose whatever path God has chosen, we can always speculate why He hasn’t chosen another. If Jesus had married, then that would have been the norm, and we might have wondered why. However, if he had married, then there might have been children. If there had been children, we would wonder if they have been a higher calling than us mere humans. Would just the fact that there were children have caused a monarchy. And would also, there not always be some that would want to overthrow the monarchy to assume power?

I can’t tell you why Jesus didn’t marry, but I can speculate that it might have caused a lot of issues had he taken a spouse.

It wasn’t his calling to be a husband to an earthly wife. However, I would direct you to Ephesians 5 as Christ provides the ultimate example of how a husband ought to treat his wife.

One spouse is always going to predecease the other.

True. Still, in that culture, a widow had fewer prospects than a virgin in terms of attractiveness as a bride. And, if a widow did not find a husband, she was doomed to living a life of destitution. I think that @hergratefulchild’s point is that, given that Jesus would have known He was going to leave this earth at 33 years old, it would have been unjust to marry and leave his widow to suffer.

@Inquiringmind12 makes a great point – marriage isn’t an activity, it’s a vocation. Christ’s vocation wasn’t “marriage to one woman”, it was “salvation of all humanity.”

To answer the OP’s question with a wink and a smile, I might add, “what woman in her right mind would want to marry a man whose Mom thinks he’s literally God-on-earth?” 😉
