Why did the talmud never get into christianity?

Why didn’t the Church stop Napoleon? He kicked the Church out of France.
Why do anti-Catholics always believe that the Church is an All-Powerful entity that can stop goverments at the drop of a hat?
Because in times past, when there was no separation of church and state, the church could indeed control rulers, if the rulers wished to remain Catholics in good standing.

If the Pope excommunicated them, normally the people would cease to accept such a ruler because the people were usually devoutly Catholic.

After having recently listened to a 24 lecture series about the Papacy from the Teaching Company here:

teach12.com/ttcx/coursedesclong2.aspx?cid=6672&pc=Religion

I can say that your understanding of the Papacy and the Church as a constant, formidable force against European rulers is way off the mark. The Pope has always been a spiritual leader and, for a brief time, was thrust into the role of temporal leader, as well (with the defensive construct of the Papal States). The power struggles between European ruling families which the Pope had to juggle to maintain a voice of authority seemed incessant throughout, at least, the Middle Ages. To think that rulers “being Catholic” made them always willing to bend to the Pope is naive. To think that citizens in these faraway lands (considering the time-period Spain was not just a plane ride away) would reject their leaders in closer proximity is also naive. Just look what happened with the “Catholic” Henry VII and his solution to the Pope’s “no”. Did his people reject him? Even today, Catholic leaders don’t always listen to the Pope. Look at pro-abortion politicians like Nancy Pelosi and Rudy Giuliani.

Yes - and things change - like they did in France, England and other countries. Jews used to persecute Christians in the 1st century and Christians persecuted Jews.

What I have a great disdain for is one-sided, revisionist history. You know - the History Channel version of history. The agenda-driven history of John Dominic Crossan and Dan Brown.

One must look at it objectively. The history I have studied shows that mistakes have been made by every single power, whether they be religious or political.

I stated in one of my earlier posts that if the Talmud professed these things about Jesus as I believe they have - I don’t blame all of Judaism as a whole. That would make me as unfair as you have been toward the Catholic church.

No, I hold those who developed and wrote these things responsible.

The history channel is funny I use to think it was pretty good then they started to show UFO stuff on the history channel… Since there have been no evidence of life found outside of earth that pretty much destroyed the crediblity of the history channel.

As far as the Talmud goes. I havn’t looked into it but I will. In the Gosple of Matthew Christ says:

Do not think that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
For amen I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot, or one tittle shall not pass of the law, till all be fulfilled.

So either this only accounts for the written law and not the oral Law, Or it counts for Both.

But since the Old testiment is fullfilled with the death and ressurection of our Lord. We are not bound by the old law, but that does not mean we have no law which we are to live by. We have the New Law given to us by Christ through his apostles passed down through Apostolic succession perserved in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition. Just as the Talmud was the Law for the Jews, the Church and its teachings are the laws for us as Christians.

Sorry to interrupt but, the last time somebody put this forward, they didn’t actually know what was happening to Jews at the time.
Which is all the more reason to be sympathetic to the persecution of early Christians in the Roman Empire. While the Jewish people were also being persecuted under the Roman rule, and as such had no power themselves beyond individual persecution, it is an historical fact individual Jews hated and reviled Christians in the first centuries of Christianity.

VERY well put. :clapping:

The first Christians (along with other early heretical Jewish sects) were indeed banned from the synagogue because they were spreading their beliefs to the Jewish people and causing doctrinal confusion. But that’s all that happened, they were banned.

However, in the Middle Ages, the Catholic church not only banned (excommunicated) what they considered as heretics and apostates, they went after them and tortured/killed them. To me, that seems much worse.
You confuse the Catholic Church with Catholic people, they are not EXACTLY the same thing… Many more people have confused them then and now, and any time in between, and you’re not the last one to do that.
Even when there are ecclesiastic people involved with the “secular arm”, it is not "the Catholic Church per se!

Yes, I agree that the Spanish Inquisition was a product of the government of Spain…but why didn’t the church stop them?

And will you understand about the persecution of Jews by your religion if a priest tells you?

CORRECTION, doc! By people from our religion, not “by (our) religion”!
Why did the Church not stop them? The Church did condemn the excesses of the Spanish Inquisition, but as for the power tostop them… of course if the Spanish authorities wanted to show that they indeed were Catholics, they might have complied.
Only, it is not so automatic. In Hitler’s case, he would not care what the pope said… He hated him already, and all the bishops and priests too!

Of course you don’t believe the account of the Acts of the Apostles. Christians WERE persecuted. Some zealous Jews did their share! When they stoned Stephanos, for instance (the future Paulos was there, I grant you, but there were Jews older than him there, so I doubt very much that he was the leader of the group of stoners…)
And when they tried to stone Paulos…
They also tried to make trouble because of what they heard Paulos, Barnabas and Silas say to the crowd…
I know: to those Jews, like Tevye would say, it was: “Unbelievable! Unheard of!” and they werethemselves very troubled by what they were hearing… Still… They DID persecute the Christians then! Why did the Jewish authorities not stop them then?
In saying this, I am not proving to be in favour of anti-Semitism. I indeed am against it. Nothing can justify it at all !

Yes but Ferdinand and Isabella were very devout Catholics…esp. Isabella…at least that is what Catholic history books claim. I’d think if the Pope truly had ordered them to stop, they would have done so.

Most of the writings and programs written and made about the Inquisition are made with an anti-Catholic bias. An example where you can see this is on the History channel. Historically, Protestants have written falsehoods about the Inquisitions and now since the media is controlled by the Jews, it is their turn to dictate THEIR own version of history to us.

Checkout this good CD book.

The media is controlled by the Jews?

Really?

Tell me more.

From Bill Donohue of the Catholic League:

"The point is that no one seriously disputes the fact that Hollywood is a heavily secular Jewish community. And while some may want to defend Hollywood against the charge that it is anti-Christian in general and anti-Catholic in particular, those who do so carry a heavy burden. It is not for nothing that Hollywood has been turning out one Christian-bashing film after another for the past few decades. There are books and tapes available that document the animus in detail.

Indeed, a report released on December 16 by the Parents Television Council shows that Hollywood has a real problem with religion. The study of CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, WB, UPN and Pax contained 2,344 treatments of religion constituting 2,385 hours of primetime television. L. Brent Bozell, the president of the organization, said the findings of his study “lend credibility to the idea that Hollywood accepts spirituality but shies away from endorsing, or even tolerating, organized religion.” As important as anything, Bozell said that “anti-Catholic bigotry” was “rampant” on network shows. “Catholicism is in the bull’s-eye of the entertainment media,” he said."

Ah, now we’re getting somewhere.

You said “Jews”. Donohue said “secular Jews”. There is a major, major difference, you do know that?

Because those same secular Jews (also known as Jews-in-name-only) create propaganda against religious Jews as well as against religious Christians.

How would you feel if I chose to lump anti-religious Catholics in with religious Catholics, and claimed they acted as a monolith? For example, if I claimed pro-abortion Catholic acitivists truly represented the Catholic religion?

I can’t speak for aj44, but I’m assuming that what Bill Donohue said, is what their intention was in making that statement.

Please supply details from somewhere other than your own scriptures.

The total number of Christians martyred in the early church is unknown. Although some early writers speak of “great multitudes,” modern scholars tend to believe the actual number is not so great as is sometimes imagined. Out of the 54 emperors who ruled between 30 and 311 AD, only about a dozen went out of their way to persecute Christians. {5}
It has been calculated that between the first persecution under Nero in 64 to the Edict of Milan in 313, Christians experienced 129 years of persecution and 120 years of toleration and peace. {6}
The Roman persecutions were generally sporadic, localized, and dependent on the political climate and disposition of each emperor. Moreover, imperial decrees against Christians were often directed against church property, the Scriptures, or clergy only. It has been estimated that more Christians have been martyred in the last 50 years than in the church’s first 300 years. {7}
