Why did the talmud never get into christianity?

Not to mention that any sukch persecution happened when everyone was still Jewish. IF it happened, it happened between Jews. From what I have read there is little (and that is being generous) evidence that Jews persecuted christians. And to suggest, as so many on these boards seem to do, that there is some sort of parity between jewish persecution of “christians” and the persecution of jews by christians is beyond ludicrous. I don’t know how anyone can post such nonsense.
There certainly was no parity there, no question about it.

You confuse the Catholic Church with Catholic people, they are not EXACTLY the same thing… Many more people have confused them then and now, and any time in between, and you’re not the last one to do that.
Even when there are ecclesiastic people involved with the “secular arm”, it is not "the Catholic Church per se!

What’s the interest for you to maintain confusion about this, I wonder?

You said “the Church” never did anything to harm the Jews.

Please look over this list and tell me if you think this supports what you said:

Hmmm . . . interesting. Did you happen to go to the home page of this article? It is the home page of a whacko named, Lewis Loflin, who claims to be a “Deist/Unitarian”.
He is anti-religion altogether. Did you read any of his creeds? Why would you adhere to anything he has to say? Oh - I know why. It’s because he’s anti-Catholic who blames organized religion for all of the world’s evils. Please don’t waste my time - OR yours.

Interesting, also is that not one death on his list is attributed to the Church - as I’ve been saying all along. I will say it again - in case you weren’t paying attention:
Overly-zealous and evil men have done these things but they were not ordered to do so by the Church. You can try to twist that ANY way you want - as you already have - but it still won’t make it true.

**The Church has made mistakes as I indicated in a previous post, but has never sanctioned the massacre of Jews. **
I’m not an anti-Semite, but you are proving to be a first-class anti-Catholic.

Try again . . .

That still is not “the Church”. Christians, yes. Catholics, yes. But “the Church”? No! No! and no!
But what is “the Church”? Is it not made up of church religious and laymen?

Many of the things listed in that link refer to antisemitic rulings by Catholic church councils (such as the Council of Elvira), and men whom the RCC has canonized as saints.

There is the Church Militant and the Church Triumphant, right? The Church Militant refers to church members here on earth…and do not all members of the church comprise “the Church”?

Why would they be? They’re not relevant to the discussion, are they? We were discussing the fact that Jesus claimed to have been sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel, and he told his followers not to go to the Gentiles.
they’re important since they show you are presenting half of the picture…as to Jesus founding a new “religion”, you are right, He did not for a religion but for His people who awaited Him and others who have faith in Him…but since the Jews who followed Him became a sect and gentiles joined in, to you it is another religion…to us it is a fulfillment because we believe in Him.

I don’t know who he is or what he is, but I do know the historical information he listed in that link is ACCURATE because I have read it before in history books.

I don’t care why he lists it, the fact is it is CORRECT. You seem to be bypassing that fact.

It is probably also a historical fact that individual jews hated broccoli. And just as relevant to this thread.
Human beings, broccoli. Same thing, of course. Broccoli persecution! Another dark blot on the history of humanity.

:rotfl:

**Just as the vicious things that were said in the Talmud about Jesus and his mother are ACCURATE. **
It’s true because I have read it before.

The distorted Talmudic quotes have been taken out of context. What I’m referring to are HISTORICAL EVENTS that even CATHOLIC historians do not deny.

Your OWN church does not deny it did the things on that list, or that their saints said such things. So why do you deny it?

Even the late Pope John Paul II apologized in 2000 for the Inqusitions and the excesses of the Crusades. Are you saying he apologized for something that did not happen??

And this website ISN’T distorted??
You want me to take - as fact - what is written in an anti-Catholic blog. That is akin to me demanding that you believe what is written about Jewish history from a KKK Website. It’s preposterous.

Much of what is listed on that link is taken WAAAAY out of context. Please provide me with proof of those things that are listed. Some of it is opinion rather than fact. Read it CLOSELY.

I only linked to that site because he had everything listed in a concise manner.

I could link to another site that lists the info too, and you’d find some reason not to accept that either.

I could probably link to a Catholic site that discusses it, and you’d find some way out of that too.

Why not educate yourself offline and read:

“THE ANGUISH OF THE JEWS–23 Centuries of Anti-Semitism” by FATHER Edward Flannery, c 1965, PAULIST PRESS

FATHER Flannery (a Roman Catholic priest and historian) lists the same information in his book that the website does that I linked to.

There are none so blind as those who refuse to see!

First of all, you listed that site because it was anti-Catholic - as YOU are.

**Secondly, I’m familiar with the late Fr. Flannery’s book, which is not an indictment of the Catholic Church. It is an indictment of anti-Semitism, which I abhor FAR more than you abhor the Catholic Church. His version of history, as you have accepted it, does not list some of the opinionated, nay, twisted and out-of-context “facts”. **

Truly, there are none so blind as those who refuse to see . . .

And what a wonderful leader he was, truly inspired by the Holy Spirit. I’ve never seen a leader of any other faith apologize to the people their members may have committed wrongs against in the name of their faith throughout history. Every group in history has wronged another, yet it’s only the Catholic Church that has formally spoken on the issue and apologized from our end. It shows our Church’s clear leadership. It’s not the Catholic Church that is in denial.

I agree on this. The links that Sepharad provided for me were not to be taken seriously. They recycled all of the typical anti-Catholic “scholarship” that has been rebutted many times, for instance, in the CA library. Sad that some people need to rely on information they know is distorted or outright false to convince confused people to leave Christianity.

Valke, if not mistaken, didn’t you say once that the Talmudic teachings about Jesus were once removed -for some reason you mentioned?

Why would they be? They’re not relevant to the discussion, are they? We were discussing the fact that Jesus claimed to have been sent only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel, and he told his followers not to go to the Gentiles.
How can you say that my quotes are not relevant to the discussion whilst Jesus says in one of those verses that the Gospel should be preached to the Gentiles before the consummation of the world? How can you deny Jesus claimed to have a universal message when He stipulated that the Gospel be preached to all the nations by His disciples before the end of ages?

Valke, if not mistaken, didn’t you say once that the Talmudic teachings about Jesus were once removed -for some reason you mentioned?
They had been removed out of fear of persecution/retaliation etc. But whether the passages themselves were referring to Jesus remains disputed. I tend to believe that there were stories that were supposed to be about him in the Talmud. This view is suppored by Klinghoffer in “Whythe Jews Rejected Jesus” and I found his assertions convincing.

I don’t abhor the Catholic church. I abhor ignorance, bigotry, stupidity and hatred.
