Why do Baptists Bash Catholics?

actually andrew, i have had even protestant ministers agree with me, that what moses did was a baptism of sorts. and immersion was not practiced by the first annabaptist. i was married to a mennonite, and they pour. i will let someone else adress your comments about the Catholic Church killing people for having a bible. and again. what is your denominational affiliation. this would help in our discussion. peace 🙂
Well dear friend you would need to qualify your answer… are these ministers catholic… they agree because??? scripture??? why are we then not given exaples in the bible of the apostles sitting in trees and throwing/sprinkling water and explained as “baptism” i am happy to take your answer but first if it passes through the test;

1)1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
2) Mat 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
3)Isa 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

1)So prove all things, i use the bible since it is the inspired word of God and i cannot use anything else.
2) i must be cautious and not take everything face value, to use my common scene since there are a lot of deceivers.
3) People that do not speak according to the law=bible will be LEAST called to the great kingdom. I am fearful and conscious of this.

What i have said is what i believe, and it is written! Not someones idea, or doctrine,

EVEN CHRIST DOES NOT CHANGE THE LAW

"Mat 5:17 Let there be no thought that I have come to put an end to the law or the prophets. I have not come for destruction, but to make complete.
Mat 5:18 Truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth come to an end, not the smallest letter or part of a letter will in any way be taken from the law, till all things are done.

Yet the catholics do - biblelight.net/st-cath.htm
So when ministers want to make a statement they can, but when the bible says that moses sprinkled blood and this was a covenant=this was an agreement.
And baptism is a ritual ACT of born again, the immersion into water! very specific and very different between the 2. Meditate on this if you will.

Really? So you’re an SDA? Kinda figures from the stuff you are saying. Can’t imagine why you chose to enter a thread about Baptists, since they also disagree with the SDA on a great many things. 🤷
1)So prove all things, i use the bible since it is the inspired word of God and i cannot use anything else.
Gee where is that stated in the Word of God? Where specifically does it tell us that everything that Christians believe and practice has to be found in the Bible. (It doesn’t. It’s NOT in the Bible, okay?)
  1. i must be cautious and not take everything face value, to use my common scene since there are a lot of deceivers.
Okay…but where is there any assurance that that “common sense” is infallible and inerrant? If you are SDA, as I suspect, then you are part of a religious community that has more than once predicted the 2nd coming of Our Lord, and been wrong each time.

What does the Bible tell us about such prophets?
Deuteronomy 18: 21] And if you say in your heart, `How may we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’ – 22] when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously, you need not be afraid of him.
  1. People that do not speak according to the law=bible will be LEAST called to the great kingdom. I am fearful and conscious of this.
Then you’re going to have to take that up with the apostles and the early church, because the New Testament plainly tells us that they worshiped on the first day of the week, which would be Sunday.
Look at these verses here:

Acts Of Apostles 20:7 And on the first day of the week, when we were assembled to break bread, Paul discoursed with them, being to depart on the morrow: and he continued his speech until midnight.

1st Corinthians 16:2 On the first day of the week let every one of you put apart with himself, laying up what it shall well please him; that when I come, the collections be not then to be made.

Revelation 1:10 I was in the spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

Notice that St. John does not say, “the sabbath”, but the Lord’s Day. Why then do the SDA Judaize others about the Saturday Sabbath, when the New Testament plainly tells us that the Christian Church broke from it even then? Even the apostles in Acts didn’t put that on the new Gentile believers.
Acts 15:22-32 Then it pleased the apostles and ancients, with the whole church, to choose men of their own company, and to send to Antioch, with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas, who was surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren. 23 Writing by their hands: The apostles and ancients, brethren, to the brethren of the Gentiles that are at Antioch, and in Syria and Cilicia, greeting. 24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that some going out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls; to whom we gave no commandment: 25 It hath seemed good to us, being assembled together, to choose out men, and to send them unto you, with our well beloved Barnabas and Paul: 26 Men that have given their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who themselves also will, by word of mouth, tell you the same things. 28 For it hath seemed good to the Holy Ghost and to us, to lay no further burden upon you than these necessary things: 29 That you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which things keeping yourselves, you shall do well. Fare ye well. 30 They therefore being dismissed, went down to Antioch; and gathering together the multitude, delivered the epistle. 31 Which when they had read, they rejoiced for the consolation. 32 But Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, with many words comforted the brethren, and confirmed them.

It’s funny you mention the Amish but you forget that we have many religious orders that take a vow of poverty, which may seem crazy to outsiders too.
Yeah, I’ve never encountered any Amish who weren’t pretty simple Christian folk.

Former Baptist here, currently Pentecostal. 👋

I was with a GARBC (General Association of Regular Baptist Churches) and an ABC (American Baptist Church). The first was close to fundamental, the second fairly liberal. I didn’t hear anybody say Catholics weren’t real Christians, nor would I put up with it if I did hear it.

As has been observed, don’t take Landover Baptist seriously. It’s a parody site.

Let’s start a new Thread. The OP has not responded, even after 64 or so posts. So what’s the point of continuing?

Sure ! I have total respect for religious orders that take vows of poverty and I might even consider it myself in the future (might).

But going around in horses wearing white hats and pretending to live in 18th century pensylvania isn’t counted as poverty, just idiotism in my view 😃

No i am not an SDA my presumptuous little friend…
I am surprised from your post that you seem to have a dislike for the jews, anyway… the sabbath is on saturday! to be more precise it is from friday night to saturday night is the sabbath as per the bible, Christ partook in sabbath.
Sunday was considered the first day of the week for the early christians of antioch.

Sunday was changed by constantine and made a holy day instead of saturday! this is historical fact!

The only reason Rome changed saturday to sunday was to mark her authority of power
example 1
biblelight.net/st-cath.htm
example2
James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore (1877-1921), in a signed letter.

"Is Saturday the seventh day according to the Bible and the Ten Commandments? I answer yes. Is Sunday the first day of the week and did the Church change the seventh day -Saturday - for Sunday, the first day? I answer yes . Did Christ change the day’? I answer no!

“Faithfully yours, J. Card. Gibbons”

There are many articles that just simply state that rome know that the biblical sabbath is saturday but rome just wanted to change it! thats all !!!

wow my friend. how many amish do you personally know? i actually know quite a few. and they are very nice people. if anything i wouldnt call it idiotism. (is that even a word?:D) oh well. any way, many of them are far from poor, they dont have alot of the hassles you and i have in our daily lives. they area actually given a time to choose weather or not they want to stay in the community. this is around age 16-18. many choose to stay. voluntarily. and its not as bad a life as you may think. try living with them for a bit. you might actually like it. they do not use electricity, but in some districts a generator is permissable. each district has their own standards. alot we could learn from these people. they also have the most successful farms. Peace 🙂

That’s unkind kid. You wouldn’t appreciate it if someone said something similar about our most holy faith, now would you? :tsktsk:

I make no presuppositions. You linked to a known SDA anti-Catholic site and seem to want to use their errant argument, that’s all. If you’re not SDA then you need to reconsider your sources. Perhaps you are some other misguided sabbatarian sect then. I know there are such that do not claim affiliation with the SDA, but share some of their errant beliefs nonetheless. Oh…and spare me the condescension please.
I am surprised from your post that you seem to have a dislike for the jews, anyway…
Total misrepresentation. One of my best friends is a Hasidic Jew and we get along beautifully. He’s a very sharp guy, and in fact, helped me put together n article on Purgatory.

So? 🤷 That was a given.

Untrue, as I have already shown from the New Testament scriptures which you seem to want to ignore.

Another historical misrepresentation.

Sabbath or Sunday? That’s factually accurate since, as I showed above, the New Testament shows us that the Church did in fact change from sabbath to Sunday worship. The rest is simply a-C propaganda, since the Church in the New Testament changed the day they worshiped (in part because Christians were thrown out of the synagogues). Cardinal Gibbons, though respected and generally right on many things, was wrong about the scriptures. Fortunately, he was not speaking with the doctrinal authority of the church in this particular matter.

You really need to check the accuracy of your sources before using them. That site is an inaccurate a-C propaganda source.

You told us that you believed the Bible. How then do you take a position in direct opposition to what the Bible actually says? It appears that you accept that site’s authority to interpret the Bible over the plain statement of the Word of God itself which means that you do not rely on the Bible alone. 🤷

I think someone should read the Didache which was originally called The Lord’s Instruction to the Gentiles Through the Twelve
Apostles.

7. The procedure for baptizing is as follows. After repeating all that has
been said, immerse in running water “In the Name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Ghost”. If no running water is available, immerse in
ordinary water. This should be cold if possible; otherwise warm. If
neither is practicable, then pour water three times on the head “In the
Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost”. Both baptizer
and baptized ought to fast before the baptism, as well as any others who
can do so; but the candidate himself should be told to keep a fast for a
day or two beforehand
.

mambo jumbo that u spin… no biblical fact upon yourself… i do not ignore any part of the bible as you again accuse me off, again a shameless accusation as was in the early century when rome thought the world was flat so by the grace of god (as they put it) lets burn people for her-racy! … you seem very aggressive in your way … do you support the inquisition then as a principal afirmation, i base my comment on your abrupt and tense words… never the less i do not see any meek feelings sprouting from thee!
i await your hasty reply with a sharp whip of a 2 pronged tongue… may the grace of the most high soften your heart in its stony embrace!
peace brother in arms

dont get me wrong…
i do appreciate thee from the sheep,… i like your way you have with words for thy is wise to say these words… your way is meek and full of grace i know your heart is not just glazed but much more is on your head… so let me thank you for your time… i know its yours to use if you incline… but let me remind you that the one who shines is also the one who thrives… so have an open mind not just built of stone and pine for thy is the kingdom of glory to live and thrive… amen to all that know and may God spread what we sow!

hope you liked my poem… felt inspired tonight …been studying the WORD and the word was GOOD! glory be to the most high!🙂

(Edited out quote of deleted uncharitable post)

Hi andrew, got a question for you. Do you think that everything has to be written in the bible for it to be a teaching of Christ?

Hi andrew, got a question for you. Do you think that everything has to be written in the bible for it to be a teaching of Christ?
I never took it so far, i always took it as the last final and only word that has been inspired by God… i mean i have read books that support the bible teaching but every time that i read a book i compared its spirit against the bible and i have found that some were void of the feel/spirit/God (call it what you will) or simply tried to teach something else…
Thats my answer to your question i hope i have answered it?:o

In this part of the world, it seems to be an identity-confirming thing.

We have a Catholic collegiate institute nearby, and two Baptist groups that meet in the area. Each decided that this school should have a “Christian Club,” and set about trying to make it happen. Now of course, it didn’t get far, but it had an interesting side effect. It turned into a contest between the two Baptist groups about which of them was the true representative of Baptist thought, and should therefore be the one to set these non-Christians in the Catholic school straight.

One group had a church, the other met in a community centre, and the whole thing led to a sheep-stealing effort by the church based group, aimed at the other group. But there was no doubt of one thing. Although there were major differences between the two groups, they agreed that their common identity as Baptists was exemplified by their stand against Catholics.

I doubt that this is typical, but there was no doubt here that a big hunk of each group’s identity derived from opposing and seeking to counter the Catholic Church. In this case, it came out in the open.

Blessinhgs,

Gerry

I believe some non-Catholics react to us in negative ways because of our Apostolic Faith…the revelation of Jesus passed on down through Christ’s Church these past 2000 years. They resent being told that during the reformation new doctrines and interpretations were wrongly developed by man apart from the revelation of Christ.

In my humble opinion, much of what divides these thousands of Churches today are peoples personal interpretation of the Scriptures. They do not have a central teaching Authority and most have only their current Pastor as their authority. If they do not agree they go off in different directions looking for the answers.
We in the Apostolic Church have the Magisteriam , the teaching authority of the Church.
The Apostolic Church holds the Deposit of Faith. Revelation ended with the death of St John. We have the full Truth and that is a truth some in the Protestant Church resent us saying and Bashes us about it, if you want to use that term.:(Peace, Carlan

As a former Baptist I can verify that some Baptists…including clergy, do bash the CC. Having said that, I must add that my priest told me that Baptists make up a very large percentage of converts to the Catholic Church. ( I have repeated this many times on similar threads). Actually, in my case, what the pastor said about the Church, meant as a slap, led me to read the Catechism and into the Church. Moral of the story…let them bash…they can’t fight the Holy Spirit.🙂

In our town, we have several different Baptist churches. Some have congregations of 10-15, some have a couple hundred.

As a rule, all of the ministers, pastors, etc. in the community get along quite well, and work together quite well.

Unfortunately, there is one Baptist minister that has an obvious dislike of Catholics, and he tries to make it well known.

This guy comes up with the usual wrong information about Catholics (statue worship, Mary worship, etc.), but then he goes on to make things up. He says Catholics have secret rituals in the middle of the night, real human sacrifices, the whole bit. It’s nuts.

The sad thing is, many of his congregation really believe this stuff. Personally, I just pray for him, because I think he’s got some real issues, that aren’t being addressed.

I will pray for him also, That is like so messed up. He will have to face God with what he is doing and all we can do is pray for Gods mercy. How sad to be confused in your faith, and then hear things like this from a person who claims to be teaching Gods word.
