I’ve have also been curious why a Protestant would bother to go to church, so I do appreciate your answers.
What I do find odd about your answers is your need to tell Catholics what they believe, and why they practice what they practice, as part of your answer. It can blur the distinction between a rant against Catholicism or an answer to the question. Your description of Catholicism is not very accurate for someone who claims to have been Catholic, so answering what you believe and only what you believe would help us understand why you go to church on Sunday.
Ok but let me please ask you this. Isn’t the main part of mass the Eucharist?
Liturgy of the Eucharust (prepaaration of tge gifts) “Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this bread to offer, which earth has given and human hands have made.”
“Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this wine to offer, fruit of the vine and work of human hande. It will become our spiritual drink.”
Pray over the gifts. Preface Acclamation, Concluding Acclamation, Communion Rite (the Lords prayer), Rite of Peace, Breaking of the Bread, Asking forgivness ( Lord I am not worthy to receive you but only say the word and I shall be healed. The receiving of his body and blood, Prayer after Communion. (This is the main part of mass, the Eucharist is what you go to mass for correct?)
Now when you confess your sins you go to a priest and confess to him correct?
If you miss mass isn’t is considered a sin? Yes if you don’t have a good reason, such as illness…
This is why I mentioned celebrating his death. There are several times when there is something mentioned about his death.
“…Before he was given up to
death a
death he freely accepted.”
“Let us proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has
died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again.”
“
Dying you destroyed our death, rising you restored our life…When we eat this bread and drink this cup,
we proclain you death Lord Jesus until you come again.”
“In memory of his
death and resurrction…”
“…Fore our sake he
opened his arms on the cross.”
In order to understand ones beliefs or their religions, sometimes its good to compare the difference between them.
As I have said many, many, times here on the CAF I have nothing against Catholics or what they believe. I just don’t agree with some of them.
I hope this helps with my not so accurate discription of Catholicism by someone who claims, let me make this correction, who was, a Catholic.
