Honestly, they could be thinking their actions are in love and not in hate. They could be confused. I say we should HOPE some of them are mistaken.
Also the dogma Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus…if what you mean by “traditional” is “without the current develops” as in “without the current better understanding of it” then I don’t want to stick with the “traditional” understanding. The current understanding is this: those who “no fault of their own” don’t know the Truth cannot be responsible for not being in the Church. I’m just saying it’s possible for some of these people to be blinded. Is that wrong?
They are blind for a reason:2 Cor. 4:3:“And if our gospel be also hid, it is hid to them that are lost, In whom the god of this world [that is, Satan] hath blinded the minds of unbelievers, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine unto them.”
And Our Lord says this:“I am
the way and
the truth and
the life (Jn. 14:6). Without the way there is no going;
without the truth there is no knowing; without the life there is no living… I am the way inviolable, the truth infallible, and the life interminable.” (Imitation of Christ, p. 311)
"Therefore, I said to you, that you shall die in your sins:
for if you believe not that I am He, you shall die in your sin.” (John 8:23-24)
And the only way to come to Him is through the sacraments which can only be communicated by the Church.
“Jesus saith to them: I am the way, and the truth, and the life.
No man cometh to the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)
And if they persecute Him in the form of His Church, shall they then obtain salvation?
“The great misfortune of those poor people was their ignorance of religion and the indifference that resulted therefrom. They were by no means unbelievers, for they had preserved a remnant of faith. Their parish priest [St. John Vianney], severe but clear sighted, saw in their ignorance more than a mere deficiency – he thought it a sin. ‘
We are convinced,’ he declared from the pulpit, ‘that this sin alone causes the loss of more souls than all the other sins together, because he who is ignorant does not realize the harm he does by his sin, nor the great good which he forfeits.’” (Abbé Francis Trocu, The Curé D’Ars, St. Jean-Marie-Baptiste Vianney, pp. 127-128)
“I see around me a multitude of those who,
blindly persevering in error, despise the true God; but I am a Christian nevertheless, and I follow the instruction of the Apostles. If this deserves chastisement, reward it; for I am determined to suffer every torture rather then become the slave of the devil. Others may do as they please since they are …] reckless of the future life which is to be obtained only by sufferings. Scripture tells us that “narrow is the way that leads to life” …] because it is one of affliction and of persecutions suffered for the sake of justice; but it is wide enough for those who walk upon it, because their faith and the hope of an eternal reward make it so for them. …] On the contrary, the road of vice is in reality narrow, and it leads to an eternal precipice.” St. Leo of Patara
“We owe God a deep regret of gratitude for the purely gratuitous gift of the true faith with which he has favored us. How many are the infidels, heretics and schismatic who do not enjoy comparable happiness? The earth is full of them and they are all lost!” St. Alphonsus Maria Liguori
Even though they are ignorant, Original Sin would be enough to condemn them [those who are ignorant].
