How many times will these Anti-Catholics quote Boettner?

I just read a bit of the original site you posted. I wonder what one of these people who wrote that site would say when we actually explain what we do…We should write an open letter to the writer of the site! What do you think?
Well we could, but I think that they would ignore it, or take it out of context to make more silly accusations.

First off. I would say that I don’t necessarily believe that Baptists believe what that website says. My best friend is a member of the Baptist Church and she and her husband have never attacked me because I am Catholic. Having said that I do remember when I was young being harassed to no end by the kids from the Baptist Church. I think people are a lot more tolerant now than they were when I was young. I think people who attack us now for being Catholic have no idea what being a Catholic means.
I agree - that website sounds like an extremist and unfortunately every faith and denomination has them. Pray for them.

I come from a southern baptist family and can tell you “straight up” that they don’t preach this trash. It is filth, truly satanic in origin, with the only purpose to discourage Catholics and lead them out of the Church. My grandfather was one such person. Lead out of the Church some 50 years ago, only to become a minister. I converted to the Church and the true Faith as taught by the Apostles and passed down through the successors of St. Peter. These people hate us, because satan hates us. We can only pray for their conversion because otherwise they will burn for eternity(which by the way is a very long time).

We can’t judge. As Jesus said “Lord, forgive them, they know not what they do.” We just have to hope that they don’t know what they are doing.

Oh, These people know what they are doing. I will stick with my original post. I will continue as most of you I hope, for the conversion of these poor souls and those of others that the light and love of our Blessed Lord will flood their hate filled hearts and these types of hideous attacks will come to an end. Though I expect we will be persecuted until the end.

In the Catechism it is stated that those who have not received the Full Truth of the Church “through no fault of their own” don’t completely fall under the “no salvation outside of the church” crowd. We should hope that some of them know not what they attack. If they truly think they have the truth and acting out of love, don’t you think they might have a chance at heaven…if they truly didn’t know?

There is no charity or love in this type of blatant attack. Besides, I will stick with the Roman Catechism. Below is a pretty good excerpt with a reasonable response.
Moreover, there are many evil consequences and sins which are linked together with this one sin of hatred. Hence these words of St. John: He that hateth his brother, is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth; because the darkness hath blinded his eyes. He must, therefore, frequently fall; for how can anyone view in a favourable light the words or actions of him whom he hates? Hence arise rash and unjust judgments, anger, envy, detractions, and other evils of the same sort, in which are often involved those who are connected by ties of friendship or blood; and thus does it frequently happen that this one sin is the prolific source of many.
Not without good reason is hatred called the sin of the devil. The devil was a murderer from the beginning; and hence our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, when the Pharisees sought His life, said that they were begotten of their father the devil.
Remedies Against Hatred
Besides the reasons already adduced, which afford good grounds for detesting this sin, other and most suitable remedies are prescribed in the pages of Holy Writ.
Of these remedies the first and greatest is the example of the Redeemer, which we should set before our eyes as a model for imitation. For He, in whom even suspicion of fault could not be found, when scourged with rods, crowned with thorns, and finally nailed to a cross, uttered that most charitable prayer: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. And as the Apostle testifies: The sprinkling of his blood speaketh better than Abel.
Another remedy, prescribed by Ecclesiasticus, is to call to mind death and judgment: Remember thy last end, and. thou shalt never sin." As if he had said: Reflect frequently and again and again that you must soon die, and since at death there will be nothing you desire or need more than great mercy from God, that now you should keep that mercy always before your mind. Thus the cruel desire for revenge will be extinguished; for you can discover no means better adapted, none more efficacious to obtain the mercy of God than the forgiveness of injuries and love towards those who in word or deed may have injured you or yours.
And as far as the dogma Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus goes, I will stick with the traditional understanding and continue to pray for the conversion of souls.

Honestly, they could be thinking their actions are in love and not in hate. They could be confused. I say we should HOPE some of them are mistaken.

Also the dogma Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus…if what you mean by “traditional” is “without the current develops” as in “without the current better understanding of it” then I don’t want to stick with the “traditional” understanding. The current understanding is this: those who “no fault of their own” don’t know the Truth cannot be responsible for not being in the Church. I’m just saying it’s possible for some of these people to be blinded. Is that wrong?

They are blind for a reason:2 Cor. 4:3:“And if our gospel be also hid, it is hid to them that are lost, In whom the god of this world [that is, Satan] hath blinded the minds of unbelievers, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine unto them.”

And Our Lord says this:“I am the way and the truth and the life (Jn. 14:6). Without the way there is no going; without the truth there is no knowing; without the life there is no living… I am the way inviolable, the truth infallible, and the life interminable.” (Imitation of Christ, p. 311)

"Therefore, I said to you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you believe not that I am He, you shall die in your sin.” (John 8:23-24)

And the only way to come to Him is through the sacraments which can only be communicated by the Church.

“Jesus saith to them: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

And if they persecute Him in the form of His Church, shall they then obtain salvation?

“The great misfortune of those poor people was their ignorance of religion and the indifference that resulted therefrom. They were by no means unbelievers, for they had preserved a remnant of faith. Their parish priest [St. John Vianney], severe but clear sighted, saw in their ignorance more than a mere deficiency – he thought it a sin. ‘We are convinced,’ he declared from the pulpit, ‘that this sin alone causes the loss of more souls than all the other sins together, because he who is ignorant does not realize the harm he does by his sin, nor the great good which he forfeits.’” (Abbé Francis Trocu, The Curé D’Ars, St. Jean-Marie-Baptiste Vianney, pp. 127-128)

“I see around me a multitude of those who, blindly persevering in error, despise the true God; but I am a Christian nevertheless, and I follow the instruction of the Apostles. If this deserves chastisement, reward it; for I am determined to suffer every torture rather then become the slave of the devil. Others may do as they please since they are …] reckless of the future life which is to be obtained only by sufferings. Scripture tells us that “narrow is the way that leads to life” …] because it is one of affliction and of persecutions suffered for the sake of justice; but it is wide enough for those who walk upon it, because their faith and the hope of an eternal reward make it so for them. …] On the contrary, the road of vice is in reality narrow, and it leads to an eternal precipice.” St. Leo of Patara

“We owe God a deep regret of gratitude for the purely gratuitous gift of the true faith with which he has favored us. How many are the infidels, heretics and schismatic who do not enjoy comparable happiness? The earth is full of them and they are all lost!” St. Alphonsus Maria Liguori

Even though they are ignorant, Original Sin would be enough to condemn them [those who are ignorant].

What if they claim to be in his church, yet deny hypostatic union?

What then? How low can they go? Can they say Paul endorsed multiple religions and that Christ is not human in heaven? Only God?
He sheds his humanity after the Cross?
Can this person call themselves a Catholic even if they wont put in in their profile? They go to Mass every Sunday- (who knows about confession once a year minimally or partaking of the Eucharist for now!!! )

Are they Catholic?

I didn’t say they would be Catholic, I said there would be a chance for them in Heaven.

Unfortunately, I see it too. 😦 I remember when I converted that my father was telling people that I had been brainwashed by my husband’s family and the rest of the Catholics. lol Boy, is he very very wrong. 😊

If they know not what they do, as those who crucified Him.

I ask, what is the point in missionary work then if it is possible to be saved through ignorance? What then is Original Sin if it can be remitted through ignorance of its presence? Why do so many saints lay down their lives for missionary work, if they were already saved through ignorance?

I ask the same thing. But, there is willful ignorance (what you see here) vs ignorance (remote in this day and age)

Not saying everyone is “smart” just saying that the message is not impossible to those open to it who are repentant of their sinful nature and open to Christ.

Too bad OSAS makes such an impact on those who want to do little or nothing- perserverance is not a goal. Knowing Christ, other than a buddy not a goal, And mostly to be- off the hook. No more nonsense Of using Logic and reason. And no sense/understanding of history too helps.

One can choose to be ignorant. I was told it was a sin to be ignorant of Christ.

Indeed.

Of course I know that they are not all like that, just 99.999999999999% of them.
ya know this doesnt help, didnt your mom tell you if you have nothing nice to say . . . . :o

Its hard to take your statement that catholics are hated when you return it back sigh

Its a independant church which does not have accountability to the Baptists as a whole.

Yes its very good for us that Jesus did not decide that it was a good idea to be uncharitable. Any time I think that Im being put upon, I think it in no way compares to what our precious Lord went through.
