Try it! Tell us a teaching that the Catholic Church teaches that you disagree with. Then let us tell you what we really teach, citing the Catholic Catechism as proof. You’ll find that what you’ve been told about what Catholic believe and why they believe are two entirely different things!

Cool! 🤓

See how that works? 👍
Lol. This is fun.

There IS no “Protestant Church,” Julia. For example, some teach that Baptism is a symbol, others teach that it’s a cleansing act. Some teach that you can lose your salvation, some teach that it’s impossible to do so.

There really is no misunderstanding Protestants. They will tell you what they believe all day long. But for some odd reason, they always imply we’re being sneaky or even lying when we explain our beliefs straight up.

Good point, but Protestant churches teach all kinds of contradictory things, so it’s pretty tough to find a unified view.

Nonetheless, it’s easy to know what a particular Protestant believes–just listen to him. On the other hand, Protestants rarely take our word for it. They almost always try to find a “gotcha” quote from some historical arcana. It’s not good enough to say “We don’t worship Mary–she’s not God” --we’re rarely believed. But if a Protestant says he doesn’t worship the Bible, we’ll take his word for it.

Well that’s very nice and thoughtful of you! 🙂

So what ‘contradictory things’ are they?

Ok. One of the points that brought me to Rome was this…Once Saved Always Saved. It is the belief that you make a one time commitment to God and that all is well…forever…no matter what you do. This lead Luther to say that he could commit adultry 100 times a day and still enter heaven.

I had a big problem when I found so much in the Bible that points toward that being just…welll…wrong.

Your turn.

Helps if ya were one for over 34 years…

Well, there are many who were Catholic for many years and left their Church…so according to you, they didn’t ‘know’ what the Catholic Church taught, right? Now you were a Prot for what, over 34 years (WOW!) so that makes you smarter than them… 😉

Okay! I got the picture now! 😛

Like what, for instance?

So what ‘contradictory things’ are they? One of my favorites is Baptism…the Bible seems pretty clear that it’s a critical part of salvation, but there’s no consensus among non-Catholics while they argue over whether to dunk, sprinkle, pour, or whatever else they can come up with. Then if it’s just a symbol and if it’s only for professng believers and not infants, even though whole households were baptized in the NT and that would logically include the little kids as well. It gets pretty confusing, but the Catholic Church’s case for baptism is consistent with the NT and the writings of the early church for 2,000 years.

Let’s start with Mathew 7:21. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Clear as can be. Not everyone who accepts Jesus as Lord will enter the kingdom. You have to do his will. If you do not do his will, you don’t enter. Simple. Once saved always saved? Nope. Here Jesus is clear, you can accept him as your personal Lord and savior, but if you then fail to do his will, you are not assured of heaven.

Thanks.

Be nice now… 😉 The rules forbid us to use that term. Rules 🙂
And the RULES will set you free…or was that the truth that sets you free. SO easy to get confused now days.

Please, no. Please, please no. Between this board and PW, I’ve casually monitoring about 17 SS threads.

Good point, that Dog is being beaten to death. Let’s stick with Once Saved Always Saved. I love that one!

Which would be easy, if that were a universal Protestant belief. Boy, Julia is going to be busy providing Scriptural support for both OSAS and every other Protestant belief on soteriology…

👋
Problem is that you are just wrong. The Protestants who have left, especially Protestant ministers, are never accussed of not understanding Protestant theology. The Protestant ministers, men who were minsters for years, have never been accussed that they don’t understand the beliefs of Protestants.

Yet those who leave the Catholic Church either do so from moral ground disagreement, (I don’t think birth control is wrong), or they just completely butcher and misunderstand the theology.

How about tell us *which *branch of Protestants you wish to show that those who left misunderstood? I am fairly positive we have converts from almost every branch of Protestants. And then tell you what Catholics believe from the Catechism, supported from Early Church Fathers AND Scripture.

But we can’t just give out a “Protestant” belief since there is no such thing. There are Baptist, Evangelical, Lutheran, Missouri Synod Lutheran, Episcopalian, and many subdivisions of belief within each branch.

Respectfully, your theory just does not hold up to the actual history.

God Bless,
Maria

If the Protestents really understood that all the good cooks were Catholic, they would all convert. 👍
