Why do Protestants become Catholic?

This question amazes me “Why do Protestants become Catholic?” You’re assuming that all Protestants are the same and that all Catholics are the same. As if there are only 2 forms of worship. I think a more appropriate question is “Why did that Christian choose Roman Catholicism?” Or, “Why did that Christian choose a Baptist church or a non-denominational church?” Have you forgotten that all believers in Christ are Christians?

In answer to the subject title question “Why do Protestants become Catholic?”

The biggest reason for many is that they find out that the Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ. After knowing that, how can someone who loves Jesus not join His Church?

If you want to more information on this subject, contact the Coming Home network. The CHNetwork has many people who are converts. Interestingly enough many of them are from the clergy and from every conceivable denomination. It seems the more you find out about His Church and pray about it and the closer you get to Jesus, the more He calls you to His Church.

Here is their contact information.

Helps if ya were one for over 34 years…

Well, there are many who were Catholic for many years and left their Church…so according to you, they didn’t ‘know’ what the Catholic Church taught, right? Now you were a Prot for what, over 34 years (WOW!) so that makes you smarter than them… 😉

Okay! I got the picture now! 😛
People who enter the Church generally know a lot more than those who leave it.

Could you please tell me where in the Bible it says that Jesus founded the Catholic Church. The Bible does not say that His Church would someday be called the “Roman Catholic Church”. Was something wrong with the “Church of Jesus”? Or something along those lines?

Just out of curiousity do you believe all Roman Catholics are going to Heaven?

That’s up for debate. Depends on what knowledge you’re referring to. Does someone going into the church (small c) know how to love God and one another more than a person leaving it? I say, people who know Jesus know a lot more than those who don’t.

They know a lot more about what Christianity is than those who leave the Church.

About this Church you’re referring to. This is the same church that is the Body of Christ, His Sheep, His true followers, rt?

It is the Catholic Church.

To elaborate on what I said before, I would actually say that those who convert to Catholicism are more devout Christians than those who convert from Catholicism. Those converting from Catholicism are often doing it more for personal reasons and do not investigate things, those who come in investigate more and tend to know their faith.

You should really cruise around these forums some more. Those questions have been answered many, many times. 😉

First, we prefer not to be called “Roman Catholics.” Just call us “Catholics,” please. Thanks! 😉 It’s common amongst anti-Catholics to tack on the word “Roman” because it has a somewhat pagan connotation, and that’s exactly the point they’re often trying to make: that Catholicism is Christianity + Paganism. But that can be rebutted in another thread. 👍

PS - If you’d like, you can call us Latin Rite Catholics.

Where did Jesus say the Church would be called Christian? Where did He say that God was called Trinity? Where did He say read the letters of Paul?

Catholic is the ancient title for the Church. It can be dated back to the epistles of Ignatius of Antioch who was a disciple of John the apostle. Roman is a title that the protestants added. If you find it scandalous that the Church is called Catholic, you should never use any word that is not used in the bible. I would even go as far as saying you can only use the Greek words, because that is the language the bible was written in and no translation has the exact same meaning. So your whole post is in vain.

No, not all Catholics are going to heaven necessarily, but it is possible.

Chapter and verse, please?

I already have and they’re biased, but thanks anyway, Hon! 👍
I hate to dissapoint you, but EVERYTHING that has EVER been written has a bias. It is impossible for something to have absolutly no bias. Part of being a good writer is arguing and explaining a position. Part of being a good reader is identifying a writer’s bias. If we dismissed everything that had a bias, we would never be reading anything.

You’re not disappointiing me at all, Lucy. I totally agree!

Well that’s intriguing…and you know this how?

Just out of curiousity do you believe all Roman Catholics are going to Heaven?Where will you find the words Incarnation, Trinity, or even Church of Jesus in the New Testament? Yet you seem to believe these things, though they are implicit in the Word of God. However…in one of the very earliest of letters of a bishop from one church to another, he called the church just exactly that.

CHAP. VIII.–LET NOTHING BE DONE WITHOUT THE BISHOP.

See that ye all follow the bishop, even as Christ Jesus does the Father, and the presbytery as ye would the apostles. Do ye also reverence the deacons, as those that carry out[through their office] the appointment of God. Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper(18) Eucharist, which is[administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude[of the people] also be; by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude[of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church. (Emphasis mine) Link to source.

Since Ignatius was taught by St. John and was bishop of the church in the city where we were first called Christians (Acts 11:26), why would he use a name that other believers didn’t already recognize?

However…this has NOTHING to do with why Protestants become Catholic, so that’s all the answer that you get so we can stay on topic.
Pax tecum,

Interesting that you would construe direct questions about Protestant beliefs in this manner.

Why? Because I think debates are utterly ridiculous (yet sometimes amusing) ?

Like in:

Catholics worship Mary…

No we don’t.

Yes you do.

No we don’t.

Yes you do…

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

I’d rather go out and debate a rock for all the good it does me. I’d still get the same end results.

The Church began calling itself the Catholic Church because Catholic means universal. In other words, the Catholic Faith was, and is, the faith of all believers all over the world. I live in the United States, but I can go to Mass in the Phillipines or in Mozambique, and I will see the same Mass. 👍

No. The Catholic Church does not teach that All Catholics are going to heaven, any more than it teaches that all Protestants go to Hell. 🙂

Well now that depends…sometimes I can be very nice and then sometimes I can be not so very nice…

Depends on which way the wind blows… 🙂
