so by your standards I can get baptized and then go out on a killing spree and its okay because I have been baptized so I will still be saved. Wow the irrationality OSAS you gotta love it šŸ‘

So the forgiveness of sins was only a temporary deal ok got it that makes total sense
Being baptized forgives you of all sins. But the bible says if you go out sinning on purpose, then Jesus’ sacrifice was pointless (somewhere in Hebrews). Before you are baptized you are full of sin and do it with joy. After baptism you still sin but resent is, and ask god to forgive you and bring you away from sin; this is called repentance. In order to be saved from all sin you must not only be baptized buy believe in Christ. To believe in Christ you must follow his teachings, which include not sinning. If you indeed went around sinning on purpose without resent you do not believe in Christ and will not be saved. The is a difference in believing Christ exists and Believing in Christ. Even the devil believes Christ exists, but we believe in Christ. This shows your faith and love in Jesus; if you sin without remorse and don’t repent you do not love Jesus.

I am curious as to what denomination the Protestant posters here belong to. Presbyterian? Baptist? Methodist? Anything?

Do you belong to a church, or are you TRULY Bible-only (you yourself and your Bible)?
The Church I belong to is non-denominational. This means we do not have someone we answer to like the Baptist or Methodist. We don’t focus on the controversial things, we allow everyone to have their own opinion at their own risk. We simply focus on Jesus’ messages. Though I am very interested in the Catholic faith and am thinking about converting. But some of the view of the church don’t seem to match up to some of the things Jesus taught; but I agree more with Catholics that I do with protestants.

Hi. Im extremely keen to know exactly what doesn’t match up? Can you be more specific?

I also noted you say ā€œseemā€. Would that mean you are willing to learn what the Church teaches?

How odd because we Catholics believe you can fall out of grace after baptism which surely sounds like what you said 🤷 which is why we go to confession. šŸ‘ you dont just go to confession without remorse and expect things to be hunky dory with God it just doesnt work that way

And basically you just agreed that baptism doesnt forgive future sin because otherwise there would be no need to br remorseful since when you were baptized you truly had faith. sconfession and repentance is what allows us to be forgiven our sins 😃 baptism forgives past sins šŸ‘

What doesn’t seem to match up? You have a problem with confession, obviously. When I was in the process of converting I thought that everything needed to be biblical. I found a website. it is scripturecatholic.com

Here is a link. It is about confession.

scripturecatholic.com/confession.html

I would suggest you talk to a Catholic priest. My fiancee just entered into full communion with the Church this past Easter and probably had more questions than you do. She is well-versed in Biblical study, but was amazed at what she didn’t know (and even more amazed at what she THOUGHT she knew) about Catholicism.

The Catholic Church is VERY Christo-Centric, and VERY Scriptural. Have you ever attended a Catholic Mass? In just HALF of a normal Mass (the Liturgy of the Word), there is an OT reading, a NT reading, and a reading from the Gospel. Oh… and a Psalm, too.

Then there’s the Liturgy of the Eucharist. If you REALLY look at it, you’d be surprised at what you find.

I hope you continue to visit, and we should ALL try to remain charitable. Sometimes that’s hard…

If you truly are considering converting I suggest you look into it further. I can see why you could argue against confession alot of protestant do but if only you could understand the love and forgiveness we truly feel afterwards there would be no doubt in your heart.

God Bless.

LOVE this site!!! I even have a couple of Salza’s books. He’s GOOD!
ME TOO!! I have read the whole site. 😊 It helped me and my husband TONS. I haven’t read any of his books, but he played a huge role in converting me and my hubby.

I am diffidently willing to learn. Actually, in the beginning I disagreed with everything the church taught. But in the past month I have learned a lot and have come to follow most of what the church teaches. As for what I think doesn’t match up is how some things are required by the church but not by Jesus. One of these things is how the church requires that you confess your mortal sins to a priest in order to be saved. Jesus never mentioned this; the bible does say that confessing your sins publicly is a good thing. I agree that you should confess your sins to a priest, but it is not necessary to be saved. Also priests don’t have the power to forgive sins. The only people on earth who could forgive your sins was Jesus and the apostles. Jesus not the apostles said that the gift to forgive sins was to be passed down to all futures priest. It seems that the things Jesus said that you should do to be a good Christian are now required by the church to be saved.

You confess to God and must have remorse and repent or else you will not be saved. You can fall from grace but that is between you and God, not a priest.

Where did it say in scripture that the authority was taken away? It would make sense that it would be passed down to successors. Why would Jesus require one thing from one group of people and require something different for other groups?

You should definitely read that link I gave you.

Think outside the box for a moment would it really make any sense for Christ to give them the ability to forgive sins if it wasnt supposed to be passed down and was only temporary? Temporary meaning until the apostles died. What would be the purpose?

Baptism does forgive your future sin. But baptism is a rebirth of your soul you no longer want to sin. You don’t have to physically prey to God saying you are sorry every time you sin. You are in a state of mind where you hate the sin and want to be taken away from it. If you are baptized and continue to sin on purpose, then you were never baptized in the first place, because you did not believe in Christ.

Do you have scripture or writings from early church fathers to back up these claims? Are you saying that you have never committed a sin after you were baptized?

True you fall from Grace from the only source of Grace: God. This is very Catholic. However, how you do away with this:

19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ā€œPeace be with you.ā€ 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, ā€œPeace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.ā€ 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ā€œReceive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.ā€

Honestly when I go to confession I dont talk to the priest I talk to God. The priest is there to give me the message of forgiveness and to give me direction on how to prevent my falling back into sin, not to pass judgment on me.

I have talked with many people about the Catholic faith and have accepted much of what is disagreed with. It is the things no one has been able to justify is what I still disagree with. On other things people have pointed to scripture that proved me wrong, but no one had been able to do that with the things I disagree with.

I do think confession would be a good thing, but not necessary. If I commit a mortal sin I will confess to my pastor/priest. But I don’t have to do that to be forgiving, nor can the priest forgive me on Gods behalf. I would just do as the bible told me and confess my sins to the world.

The apostles could forgive because of the relationship they had with Christ. They had to be able to forgive because Jesus wasn’t their. Jesus breathed the holy spirit on the apostles they are more than a priest. They were the very representative of Christ; especially Peter.
