Why do you feel socialism is bad?

This is FALSE. The Church is definitively opposed to socialism, friend.

One need not be socialist to bring justice to the poor – one must be charitable. Socialism deadens charity. Socialism CREATES poverty – look at eastern Europe and the USSR until the 1990s, and Cuba today!

Charity is borne out of love, not taxes and coercion. Do not suggest that priests (and others) who oppose socialism are not in favor of helping the poor! I resent that!

Peace,
Dante
My use of the word socialism is not meaning communism that eastern Europe and the USSR had.

When I use the word socialism I am talking about social programs within a captialist society, that address the health care and educational needs of all of its citizens.

No man can serve two masters. One cannot be for the poor and be against social programs that help them. God is not mocked!

The true priests of the Lord and true Christians, support socialism because their heart is for the people. They don’t turn their back on Jesus.

On judgement day Jesus will say, “What you did to the least of these you did to Me!”

And what if I would rather give my money to the Church as my “contribution to mankind”? What right does the government have to say that I MUST give money to the government to feed the hungry?

What about people who decide NOT to contribute to their Church beyond the money taken by the government – which will inevitably be whittled down by inefficiency until only pennies on the dollar actually help anyone?

THAT is the injustice of socialism.

Peace,
Dante
If you loved the poor you would be happy for programs by the governement to help them.

Actually, the 16th Amendment to levy an income tax without apportioning it among the states or basing it on Census results is UnConstitutional.

There is nothing in the US Constitution that reads that the government has the authority to provide for anyone’s health care or education. This is not serving Jesus in the small, this is giving a man a fish for a day. If we teach a man to fish - he will eat for a lifetime.

Stopping Universal Healthcare, especially when there are provisions to provide funds for abortions is morally wrong. The USCCB has already stated that they are against Universal Healthcare. You cannot force one to give up a portion of their ability to provide a service to others that cannot afford to pay for said service.

We are all called to toil and labor by God. Why should a hard working citizen have to give up any of their hard earned income to support someone that may well be participating in one of the 7 deadly sins - Sloth. I am all in favor of assisting those who cannot help themselves and I currently do that by supporting our local St Vincent de Paul. I am against any mandate that forces me to give up any portion of my income to the government. Government does nothing right. Pass the Fair tax!
Yes teach a man to fish! Support the goernement with educating all of society so that all can fish.

Are you a Christian? If you are you will want to help those that are too weak to help themselves.

Opposing Obama’s social programs is opposing the Lord to His face!

Socialism assumes that the Government will do the good – teach a person to fish correctly.

Personal charity ensures that the person is trying to do the good – teach a person to fish correctly.

People have become accustomed to thinking: “Those unfortunate people, I hope the government helps” or “the fat-cats should pay for it” and then go about their lives. I suspect that almost everyone in Haiti can point to most of the population in the USA and call them “fat-cats”.

If a neighbor’s house burns down, does one think: “it’s the government’s problem” or does one think “it’s my problem”?

We all have a responsibility to our fellow man. The government has full rights to tax people to use the money to benefit the poor through their education and health care needs. This is serving Jesus in the small. It is the government’s obligation, and is a major part of the Christian solution. Lets’s all be part of it!!

Stopping or hindering social programs such as universal health care is turning one’s back on Jesus. Let’s all smile at Jesus and help the poor in our societies.
Taking from others is NEVER a part of the Christian solution, regardless of what you do with what you take.

I cannot support someone who supports abortion!

“We can commit sin in the voting booth. Everything that we say or do either affirms or denies moral law. We are either getting closer to God, or farther away from Him. Everything that we say or do either strengthens us in virtue or enslaves us in vice. You cannot sing God’s praises in the choir and then say that you believe in abortion.”

“If you believe in “abortion rights,” and knowingly and willfully vote for a candidate who promises to protect those “rights,” you have committed a sin." This is especially true for Catholics who have 2,000 years of Church teaching and tradition to back them up. (By the way, some of what I posted came from the Catholic Church’s teaching in the 2nd century.) "A voter who votes for a candidate who supports abortion has intentionally and deliberately helped someone who promotes a violent and destructive activity. That vote is similar in seriousness to participating in a pro-abortion rally, or writing an editorial that supports abortion.”

These are the moral implications of voting. I once belonged to the Democrat Party, then I joined the Republican Party, and I now belong to the Constitution Party. However, my moral obligation is to keep out candidates who support abortion, usually Democrats; therefore, I often vote for Republicans who oppose abortion.

Governments lie. There is huge difference between what the White House, especially under Clinton, reported as a deficit/surplus and what the Federal Reserve reports. I tend to trust the Federal Reserve’s figures. .
There were budget surpluses during the Democratic Clinton years, but there were massive and huge unprecedented budget deficits during the Republican Bush years according to the Office of Management and Budget. Certain programs not included in the Congressional Budget led to a slight increase in the federal debt during the Clinton years, even when the Congressional Budget showed a surplus.

Abortion must be treated as a separate issue from universal health care and education.

It is a crime to use the abortion issue to deprive people of their rights to health care and education.

Using the abortion issue to prevent the meeting the health care and educational needs of a nation is morally criminal.

You are telling me this after lecturing everyone what “promote the general welfare” means?
Yes. i say that we have to look to the Supreme Court of the United States of America for what is implied by the United States Constitution. They are the final authority, and I do not beleive that there is any recourse to their decisions.

Very good post! There is no doubt that FDR changed the Constitution by his adoption of the 1928 Socialist platform.
But he was not impeached and his decisions stand even today. This is proof positive that the liberal interpretation of the General Welfare Claus is warranted.

You were claiming that the U.S. government is OBLIGATED by the general welfare clause to enact social programs- thus far, all you have attempted to show is that these programs have not been shot down.
Of course they have not been shot down, because they are constitutional in virtue of the General Welfare clause.

Do the words Provide, Promote and Own have the same meaning?

No one denies the Government is in possession of things, including land – it was paid for by public monies either through direct payment, wars, or the “Takings Clause” (which restricts what may be reacquired back by requiring “just compensation”). What government may do with land is covered in the Constitution in Article 3 Section 3 and by the Fifth Amendment. As was noted while the government has ownership of about 30% of the total of USA land, most of the remainder is owned by private entities. The Government promoted the use of and provided much land for private ownership by either giving it away or selling it for very little money. The government relinquished ownership.
The governemtn has not relinquished ownership of the 392 public park lands which it currently owns.

Of course you are right.

Let’s eliminate morally criminal abortion (Socialized life-termination) then and discuss health and education.

Socialism is succeeding very well in Europe and Canada. United States on the other hand without social programs has many of its society left out. With many without health care, and proper education, America squanders its most valuable resource, its people!

American due to its lack of socialism is a dying giant as so many of its people are supressed and thus not able to contribute. Socialism lets everyone contribute to society. Socialism works in Canada and Europe so it will thus work well in the US of A.
It is very distressing that America is squandering its most precious and valuable resource, its people. The time has come for a change and to help those in need by initiating stronger welfare programs that are designed to help the poor.

The General Welfare Cause is abused by libbies who want to change the founding of the constitution to the evil socialist/communist (no difference between he two) ideology. It was not meant for that and the early founders specifically spoke on this issue. Libbies would like to do away with the 10 amendment but it was put there to keep the Fed from encroaching on states rights.

Why someone who is not in and from this country wants it to change over to socialism/communism is beyond me and quite frankly very odd.

No one is questioning government ownership of some things, land, buildings, pencils, paper, vehicles, pens. So the government owns some land – it doesn’t own all of it. Is totally government owned land a part of Socialism?

Provide and promote do not mean own.

Amen!! It is time for social justice to come to America!!

All wealth is owned by the Lord!! We must use it to bring forth Life!! The government must be allowed to use it to help others as all money belongs to the Lord.
