Hello, I have come here to further my knowledge, nothing less nothing more. I dont want any grief from anyone but I have a few questions for the believers here…

Why do you still believe in God? The evidence for evolution is undeniable, humans were created by nothing more than evolution chance, just like apes, tigers and neanderathals.

A good explanation for this is neanderathals, they believed in an afterlife (which doesn’t exist) and now humans believe in it, showing us humans are basically just smart neanderathals.

HIGHLY Intelligent scientist Stephen Hawking has shown that God wasn’t needed to create the universe, it came out of chance.

The bible - Evidence shows that it is a book of contradictory fables and myths (Eg. Adam and Eve), Jesus existed but he wasnt God, his disciples realised he wasnt the messiah and God so they morphed the story into a religion where Jesus was the son of God and died for our sins.

Jesus was a Jew, and Jews then and now dont believed in an afterlife.

Science has shown the brain conrols everything we feel, think and do… there is no need for a soul or spirit, is is all mythology.

I would like replies or even if you want to rebutt my arguments, feel free. I am looking for a mature conversation. 👍

This question should be asked in “Apologetics”, not “Spirituality”.

Why do you still believe in God?
From a rational perspective - the contingency argument.
From a historical perspective - the evidence for Jesus Christ.
From an emotional perspective - personal experiences and testimonies of supernatural events.
The evidence for evolution is undeniable, humans were created by nothing more than evolution chance, just like apes, tigers and neanderathals.
That says nothing about the existence of God, in fact, evolution is a good argument for the existence of God! I have never understood how this is an argument against the existence of God. youtube.com/watch?v=fHQsaiMcPLc
A good explanation for this is neanderathals, they believed in an afterlife (which doesn’t exist) and now humans believe in it, showing us humans are basically just smart neanderathals.
And they evidence for this belief of neanderthals is?
HIGHLY Intelligent scientist Stephen Hawking has shown that God wasn’t needed to create the universe, it came out of chance.
Stephen Hawking actually goofed up on that by assuming the existence of the string theory. His colleague, Michio Kaku, a renowned physicist himself, said this,

“My colleague Stephen Hawking recently wrote a very controversial statement, it was in all of the headlines. He said, “First we have a theory of everything - it’s string theory…” (the theory that I (i.e. Michio) work on) “… and it takes you before the big bang. Therefore God is not necessary, because we now have a theory of the pre big-bang universe”. My attitude is, well, where did string theory come from? It goes on forever! Even if you go before the big bang, then the question is where did that theory come from. Undecidable.”

(- see at around 01:35:00 in this video - youtube.com/watch?v=p6tIee8FwX8)

Stephen Hawking therefore committed a logical fallacy by making that statement.
The bible - Evidence shows that it is a book of contradictory fables and myths (Eg. Adam and Eve), Jesus existed but he wasnt God, his disciples realised he wasnt the messiah and God so they morphed the story into a religion where Jesus was the son of God and died for our sins.
It don’t think there is any such evidence that you speak of. Jesus made clear claims to be the Son of God. It was for this reason he was crucified. He was charged for blasphemy.
Jesus was a Jew, and Jews then and now dont believed in an afterlife.
This is not true at all. See jewfaq.org/olamhaba.htm for instance.
Science has shown the brain conrols everything we feel, think and do… there is no need for a soul or spirit, is is all mythology.
Has it shown that or assumed that? How can science speak of things beyond its realm?

I believe in God for many reasons. Here are just two.
  1. The beauty and complexity of life and nature around me clearly indicate a creator is present.
  2. In our history on this planet, there are instances of miracles both documented and with witnesses. In context, these were from our creator and delivered to us for the purpose of strengthening our faith.

I had several strange events happen to me several years ago, things that I won’t say with 100% certainty were of divine or demonic origin but can come up with no scientific or “rational” explanation for otherwise. It would take a much greater leap of faith for me to believe that God doesn’t exist than that He does. The beauty and complexity of creation and the “First Cause” argument bolster my belief, but my own personal experiences are the basis.

I believe in God because I have personally met Him. 😃

Ask any convert to Christianity- Christ is a real Person who manifests Himself to those who search for Him and whom He wills to save.

Your whole introductory lacked any maturity so I doubt having a conversation will.

You first quote all atheist views as facts and then you want to have a discussion. If you would have said “I personally think the Bible is based on myths…blablabla…” that would be a different story.

“Chance” is just a name for how things are theorized to have happened, but it is not a thing or force in itself, therefore it cannot be the cause of anything. Saying “X is caused by chance” means only “We see no intelligent or puropsive cause that created X.” But science cannot prove a negative. Nor has it shown how life popped into being from nonlife, or conscious self-awareness from non-selfaware states. Nor can science account for the moral sense. It can theorize that communities enhanced their chances for survival by character traits like altruism, but that does not explain why we feel that we ought to help others, or why we feel guilty when we don’t. Have scientists proved that genes control such intricate character traits? If science can account for them, show me the experiments that determine how many pounds justice weighs, or how many feet long anger is, or the specific density of humor. You can make up any number of “just-so stories” about how these traits “could have” enhanced the prospects for survival, but to do so, you have to assume as a premise the evolution you are trying to prove; namely, that everything that is, came into being solely through natural selection. But scoience cannot demonstratwe such exclusive causality.

Since science confines itself to the empirically verifiable, it cannot address the question whether God can use natural selection to accomplish his ends. You cannot say that science has “proven” that this is not the case. Science has only decided to ignore the question, since its methods are irrelevant.

If the brain “controls everything we do,” does that mean that we cannot know anything about the world outside the brain? Because if that were the case, we would not be able to trust our perception that the brain controls everything we do, any more than we could trust our reasoning and experiences that support the idea of God. On the other hand, if we can gain objective knowledge about the world outside the brain, that knowledge can provide evidence for God.

As for the Bible, there are many rational, well-argued defenses available. Google “Christian Apologetics.” Or I will provide a list when I have more time.

Finally, thank you for seeking answers rather than just scoffing as Dawkins and co. do. You are true to your conviction that reasoned discourse can arrive at credible answers, and I commend you for it.

Why do you beleive in Athiesm? is the question. Why do you feel there is no God? It all goes back to first causes. I havfe heard funny ideas like we were put here by aliens and we are an experiment. Who created them? who created the idea of evolution? who started the process? Why are we here? and what purpose do we serve? If there is no God how can a Church last for 2000 or so years with bad popes and immoral men? Something started the evolution process. I do not at all beleive in evolution as to me it is very silly and more and more scientists are proving that indeed God does exist. HONEST science.
I love airliners especially the 747 400. It is so very complicated of a machine. Ever sit in one?? the gauges the screens the gyros. All the lettering on the guages the switches and all the wiring to make it all work. That is just the cockpit. Now we have the air frame then the electrical system with the APU and then the engines. there is the right metals in the right places to make it work, Now the paint job to identify the carriers that own these magnificent machines. Go one step further something that i love even more that would be oceanliners. Now you take the human body. Way more complicated in thought and engineering. Take the human soul even more complicated. Now you yourself would argue that the 747-400 would never be able to be made from a bicycle then go to a motorcycle then to a car then bus than piper cub than cesssna then lear jet then 707 so so forth without an inventor? or inspiration for bigger and better aircraft?? you have have to agree that someone would have to build on the firist ideas to make a 747 come to being. Many athiests I know would say there is no way that a 747 in space be able to be made or shall I say evolve from a bicycle to that complicated machine. YET at the same time that same athiest would beleive that something SO MUCH MORE COMPLICATED than a 747-400 could come from pond scum by itself and become a living breathing human being. The solar system is so precise for 5 billion years runs like clockwork. would you be so blind that a clock could keep time for eternity without being wound? but you beleive that all this is by chance? what is the purpose of being if we wer eto merely die and that’s it??? What hopelessness and darkness. You may have come from pond scum and then from apes BUT NOT ME!!! I came from God and God created me in his image and likeness in as much as to know and to love. No other animal seeks God nor understands that he will pass away. It is no accident that we are the only SUPERnatural beings on earth. God bless you and may he show you the folly of the athiest’s ways Scooby

What did his disciples gain for morphing the story into a religion as you believe they did?

Did their reputations improve? Did they gain money? Did it increase their sex appeal?

What I see is a group of men who were willing to be scorned by those opposed to the message they gave. They did not seek to put their own past failings in a better light, it’s all in the gospel. They frequently misunderstood what Jesus was trying to tell them. They argued about who was the greatest among them. One of them, Peter, denied that he even knew Jesus when he was arrested. With your theory I would wonder why they didn’t write that stuff out. Surely they could have made themselves look more impressive if they were only inventing a story.

The disciples had to leave everything to follow Jesus. It was a life of poverty. Two of Jesus disciples had no money to give to a begger who asked them. They couldn’t afford to feed people who came from a distance to listen to Jesus preaching. They totally relied on God.

Many of the disciples dedicated their lives to spreading the message, and even remained unmarried so as to focus on this exclusively.

Ultimately many of the disciples gave up their lives as martyrs.

This is one of the reasons I believe, although there are many other reasons.

Evolution is a theory nothing more . Pope John Paul II was not accepting of parts of it that conflicted with the faith . I have a blog on evolution .An Argument against it that I invite you to read . Defendingthefaith-frankie.blogspot.com .I have an entire atheist series on my blog .I invite only certain folks to my blog .you came here with a certainty that God does not exist did you not? My blog will counter your arguments .

Now you may or may not be a Dawkins supporter. If I may pose a question :Why does your fearless leader fear debate with William Craig? If he is so certain of his position ,Why not debate a Christian apologist certain of his position ? I will also have you know that there have been two books that I have read that were written to counter "The God Delusion ".Patrick Madrid co-wrote a book called "Godless Delusion " and Scott Haun co-wrote a book called "Answering The New Atheism " Now as a man who studies all sides of the argument ,I wonder if you have read these two books .If you have not ,perhaps you should . One of the problems I have with the atheist is that many of them claim to be rational thinkers (accusing us of not being )and they refuse to read arguments against their claims . Now I challenged a considerable number of atheists within the last year or so and many of them responded back (on youtube) with mockery and no actual argument . Many of them resorted to vulgar language .Showing their lack of morals . You pose the "by chance claim " well if you use common sense , you would clearly see that this could not have come by chance . The Big Bang could have been the first cause that God caused . You see, for all this to come about the way that it did , the perfect exact amount of speed and gravity needed to take place . Any slower or faster this would not be the way that it is . There must have of course been a first cause , there must have been an intelligent designer for that first cause . There are too may things that are complex for God not to have made it . I challenge you to take a gander at my blog and see if you can counter what I have . Now if you come back with mockery towards the blog rather then actual argument then I will assume you fall into the moral lacking category.
Jesus is the founder of Christianity .Born a Jew but released us from the works of the law.Instead of bringing children into the covenant with God through circumcision ,he brought us into the covenant through Baptism (Jn 3)
SO using the Jesus was a Jew does not work here for he was born a Jew and brought us into the new covenant . If you have a bible read the New Testament .

I managed to miss most of high school biology by being sick that year, so it wasn’t til I was older and watching a show about nature that I really saw an example of the theory of evolution. They were showing the physiology of the eye of a fly, and that is extremely complicated without even going into the celluar level.

And later it hit me how incredibly insane it was to believe that that level of complexity was the product of a completely random force. And then i believed in a Creator, and started my path to the Catholic Church 🙂

Why do you still believe in God?
Because this world (universe, space, and everything) is just too complex, too beautiful, and too amazing to be made from chance. Also, from my own personal experiences.
The evidence for evolution is undeniable, humans were created by nothing more than evolution chance, just like apes, tigers and neanderathals.
One can believe in evolution and God at the same time.
A good explanation for this is neanderathals, they believed in an afterlife (which doesn’t exist) and now humans believe in it, showing us humans are basically just smart neanderathals.
One, where are your sources for Neanderthals believing in the after life?
And two, humans (Homo sapiens) are not the decedents of Neanderthals. “Both fossil and genetic evidence indicate that Neanderthals and modern humans (Homo sapiens) evolved from a common ancestor between 500,000 and 200,000 years ago.” [from: Homo neanderthalensis | The Smithsonian Institution's Human Origins Program”]Human Origins]
We are not Neanderthals.
The bible - Evidence shows that it is a book of contradictory fables and myths (Eg. Adam and Eve),
Sources?
Jesus existed but he wasnt God, his disciples realised he wasnt the messiah and God so they morphed the story into a religion where Jesus was the son of God and died for our sins.
You do realize, that 10 out of the 12 Apostles died as martyrs, one was imprisoned on an island and died of old age, and the last killed himself for betraying Jesus? If the 11 who spread the message of Christ, knew that it was a lie, why would they be willing to suffer horrible torture, multiple imprisonments, and finally painful deaths? Who dies for a known lie?

Next time you post, please don’t ramble off claims that appear as “truth” but you give no sources. Doing so will show you are serious, and “mature.” Also, not trying to offend, but please check your spelling in your post. Having good spelling and grammar skills can actually do wonders when trying to communicating! 😛 😉

In Christ through Mary,
Nevermore

Like the late great skeptic and mathematician Martin Gardner, I believe that the evidence for or against the existence of God can only take you so far.

At some point you must choose. No matter which choice you make, there will be someone who will give you a really good argument as to why you should have made the opposite choice.

But ultimately, you are the only one who can make that decision. No one else can - or should - make it for you. 🙂

Jesus existed but he wasnt God, his disciples realised he wasnt the messiah and God so they morphed the story into a religion where Jesus was the son of God and died for our sins.
What would be the point of the disciples morphing the story? It got them beheaded, crucified, and otherwise torturously killed. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t perpetuate a story that I made up, that would cause me to get beheaded.

To those who believe, no explanation is necessary.
To those who don’t believe, no explanation is possible.

What got my interest long ago was that the Blessed Mother appeared at Fatima to 3 shepherd children, and on a day told by them in advance, with 70,000 able to come to see what was happening on that day, the crowd saw the sun dance. The crowd saw a spectacular event, never seen before in the history of the world, and it was recently in 1917.
The Blessed Mother had something important to say. Wouldn’t you be curious as to what was so important?

Now aren’t you at all curious what it might be like to have God as your *Father? *Isn’t that worth pursuing, in case it actually might be true? I thought so.
God is an awesome Father, and I love being His daughter. I would never go back to not knowing. I wish you might know what that is like one day. Sooner, rather than later!
