The bible - Evidence shows that it is a book of contradictory fables and myths (Eg. Adam and Eve), Jesus existed but he wasnt God, his disciples realised he wasnt the messiah and God so they morphed the story into a religion where Jesus was the son of God and died for our sins.
You’ve seen this video then huh?

(Lutheran satire on the “Christian Conspiracy” much sarcasm ahead!)

Now you yourself would argue that the 747-400 would never be able to be made from a bicycle then go to a motorcycle then to a car then bus than piper cub than cesssna then lear jet then 707 so so forth without an inventor? or inspiration for bigger and better aircraft?? you have have to agree that someone would have to build on the firist ideas to make a 747 come to being. Many athiests I know would say there is no way that a 747 in space be able to be made or shall I say evolve from a bicycle to that complicated machine. YET at the same time that same athiest would beleive that something SO MUCH MORE COMPLICATED than a 747-400 could come from pond scum by itself and become a living breathing human being.
That’s the best analogy I’ve heard yet! 👍
You may have come from pond scum and then from apes BUT NOT ME!!!
:rotfl: Rrrrrrighto! :clapping: :tiphat:

Hello, I have come here to further my knowledge, nothing less nothing more. I dont want any grief from anyone but I have a few questions for the believers here…

Why do you still believe in God? The evidence for evolution is undeniable, humans were created by nothing more than evolution chance, just like apes, tigers and neanderathals.

A good explanation for this is neanderathals, they believed in an afterlife (which doesn’t exist) and now humans believe in it, showing us humans are basically just smart neanderathals.

HIGHLY Intelligent scientist Stephen Hawking has shown that God wasn’t needed to create the universe, it came out of chance.

The bible - Evidence shows that it is a book of contradictory fables and myths (Eg. Adam and Eve), Jesus existed but he wasnt God, his disciples realised he wasnt the messiah and God so they morphed the story into a religion where Jesus was the son of God and died for our sins.

Jesus was a Jew, and Jews then and now dont believed in an afterlife.

Science has shown the brain conrols everything we feel, think and do… there is no need for a soul or spirit, is is all mythology.

I would like replies or even if you want to rebutt my arguments, feel free. I am looking for a mature conversation. 👍
evolution didn’t create anything and it doesn’t explain how life forms come about in the least. If you came from a monkey i won’t put it past you, but i’m not. Monkeys are ridiculous things.

I would like replies or even if you want to rebutt my arguments, feel free.
You didn’t provide any arguments. Only simple statements of your personal opinions.

Through my own personal experiences, God has graced me with belief.

Some try, but God can’t be explained away.

I think, personally, that evolution is an elegant and plausible scientific theory, and in no way incompatible with the Christian faith. Whilst it does call for a modification of the Argument from Design, I don’t believe it discounts it, and even so there are a lot of other reasons to believe - I personally have never hung my belief upon arguments over evolution or creation.

I believe because I believe in love. Only a God who because of love became incarnate as human can be both inifinite and close to us, only this makes sense.

HIGHLY Intelligent scientist Stephen Hawking has shown that God wasn’t needed to create the universe, it came out of chance.
Oh sure…

What is non-living gave rise to life.
What is non-intelligent gave rise to intelligence.
What is random gave rise to what is deliberate.
What is simple gave rise to complexity.
What is chaotic gave rise to order.

And all this happened by accident.

Yeah, sure! Too bad I am not HIGHLY intelligent like Hawking to see how any of this is even remotely feasible.

“Sir Fredrick Hoyle put it colorfully when he said that this scenario is about as likely as a tornado whirling through a junkyard and accidentally assembling a fully functional Boeing 747.”

This question should be asked in “Apologetics”, not “Spirituality”.
The topic of evolution is banned here at CAF
Unless I am mistaken, the temporary ban on evolution/atheist discussions in only on the apologetics and philosophy forums in CAF. Of course, whether or not it is permissible (or appropriate) to post an apologetic topic in the spirituality forum in order to skirt the rules is another question. But, if not, I decided to throw in my own “two cents” in the previous post anyway.

If only you were aware of the spiritual treasures within the Catholic Church! They’re there, just waiting to be discovered!

Like the late great skeptic and mathematician Martin Gardner, I believe that the evidence for or against the existence of God can only take you so far.

At some point you must choose. No matter which choice you make, there will be someone who will give you a really good argument as to why you should have made the opposite choice.

But ultimately, you are the only one who can make that decision. No one else can - or should - make it for you. 🙂
This is a great post and one I agree with…I could give my personal testimony, but in the end, It is still a choice of free will. I choose to.Samson

All evolution does is describe how organisms transform over time. It says nothing about the origins of life itself.

And as for Stephen Hawking, I find it rather hard to believe that nothing existed at one point, and then suddenly nothing exploded for absolutely no reason at all, and thus nothing magically turned into everything, which then magically turned into self-replicating bits that turned into dinosaurs.

Hawking also says we can inhabit a planet whose journey is 50,000 years from us, if we simply build a spaceship like the Enterprise from “Star Trek”, which will allow us to travel at just under light speed, thus bringing us there in 6 years. And, how long will it take to develop such technology?

Sorry, but I believe that God chose evolution as his means of creating the universe.

There is absolutely no contradiction between science and God. And just because someone is highly intelligent (like Stephen Hawking), does not make them infallible, or even knowledgeable about all things.

I have been away, sorry.

Have any of you read top scholar Bart Ehrmans books? In my opinion he tears the bible to shreds and shows it for what its worth.

Also what do we know about physics compared to Hawking? NOTHING.

And what do we know about the origins of life compared to Dawkins? NOTHING

The Lord appeared to me, together with the Blessed Virgin Mary in my sleep and I experienced His Presence. Not that I didn’t believe in Gd before this happened. In fact, prior to it happening, I prayed and told Gd I wanted to speak to Him face to Face. Not kidding. My prayer was answered directly. If any person really doesn’t believe there is a Gd, ask to speak to Him face to Face. You will get an answer - a very loving answer, because even though you don’t believe He exists, He does and He loves you infinately! May Gd give you courage to ask.

Ehrman is part of the Historical Jesus movement which, generally speaking, replaces authentic historical scholarship with opinionated speculation. The only people who consider him a “top scholar” are those who also buy into this stuff.
Also what do we know about physics compared to Hawking? NOTHING.
Would you say that Einstein knew something about physics???

“I’m not an atheist and I don’t think I can call myself a pantheist. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many different languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn’t know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God.”
-Albert Einstein

More quotes from Einstein regarding God and religion can be found here.
And what do we know about the origins of life compared to Dawkins? NOTHING
The kids in the First Communion class in my parish know more about the origins of life than Dawkins does.
A good explanation for this is neanderathals, they believed in an afterlife (which doesn’t exist) and now humans believe in it, showing us humans are basically just smart neanderathals.
How have you proven that an afterlife doesn’t exist?
And exactly how do you know what neanderthals did and did not believe?
Conducted some interviews, have you?
And even if they believed in an afterlife, how does that disprove its existence? By the simple use of reason they could have concluded that there is more to existence than what this earth can provide.
The bible - Evidence shows that it is a book of contradictory fables and myths (Eg. Adam and Eve),
Define what a “contradictory fable” is and then demonstrate how the Bible is guilty of containing one.
Jesus existed but he wasnt God, his disciples realised he wasnt the messiah and God so they morphed the story into a religion where Jesus was the son of God and died for our sins.
Sure, the apsotles were sitting around bored one day and decided to create a hoax that would result in them getting imprisoned, beaten, persecuted, ostracized, tortured and killed. And then they could all look forward to eternal existence in hell as punishment for blasphemy. Yeah, that makes lots of sense!
Jesus was a Jew, and Jews then and now dont believed in an afterlife.
Where in the blue blazes did you get that from???
I think you could use a little Judaim 101.
Science has shown the brain conrols everything we feel, think and do… there is no need for a soul or spirit, is is all mythology.
Then why can’t science create life from non-life? It is one thing to control life, quite another to bring it into existence.

Out of curiosity, do you intend on pursuing this thread with any actual scholarship? So far all I’ve seen are your personal opinions and statements that basically claim, “Well, Hawking, Dawkins and Erhman say so!”

Hello, I have come here to further my knowledge, nothing less nothing more.

Hi,
Since you only wish to be informed and nothing else, I have here extradinary information given by a woman who lived in the early part of the 20th century. Her name is Sister Faustina.

One day she was led by an Angel into the depth of hell, where great torture takes place. It was a very large place where there is darkness and foul smell, in the constant presence of Satan. Each soul suffers in that part of his sense with which he sinned with pain designed for that sense. There are also pits and caves of torture which differ in their design for suffering.

She said, “I am writting this…so that no soul may find an excuse by saying there is no hell, or that nobody has ever been there and cannot say what it is like.”

“I Sister Faustina, …have visted the abysses of hell so that I might tell souls about it and testify to its existence.”

“How terribly souls will suffer there.”

“…MOST of the souls there are those who disbelieved that there IS a hell.”

I really do hope and pray that you give your Holy, Mighty, Immortal, God recogniton and praise.
Just keep repeating the words,“I trust in you Jesus”. Just say it over and over. It means you trust in His Love and mercy to raise you up. No matter what you may have done, it is not a stopper for Jesus when you trust in his penetrating love. He will love you for it and pick you up in His arms and give to you the peace you seek. Ask Him to embrace you, “I trust in you Jesus.” Don’t wait for the right moment. Just say it, “I trust in you Jesus”.

When I fall on my knees, with my face to the rising Sun, O Lord, have mercy on me. Hymn

Because the value I place on my life, my being, and my existence is way above the cop-out value of meaningless chance.

Na, he doesn’t. We know about this already. See this video, for example -
