Why does 1 Corinthians 6:9 say that homosexuals will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven?

Paul is referring to sexual/bodily immorality of any kind. Not people with same sex attraction. There is a difference.

He explains that joining oneself in sex with another is only worthily done in a marriage. St. Paul explains it in the following way in verses 6:15-17
God raised the Lord and will also raise us by his power.
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take Christ’s members and make them the members of a prostitute?* Of course not!
[Or] do you not know that anyone who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For “the two,” it says, “will become one flesh.”
But whoever is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.

Homosexuality is ALL about the “Self”; MEISM

God;s gift of sexuality is at one and the same time; a gift, a promise and a reward.
  1. It is a GIFT because not every sexual act among a man & a women results in a pregnancy. WHY? Because God created in women a fertile and a infertile time; BUT even then GOD is the creator of life.
  2. The gift of sexuality is also a promise: It is a promise that GOD is with us from the instant of conception until normal death; that God remains in charge as long as we allow Him to be.
  3. Sexuality is a reward [pleasurable] by design of God for PARENTS who continue the species, and endure the joys and hardships of parenthood.
The RCC Teaches that the two purposes of marriage are its UNITIVE & its reproductive capabilities… BOTH are God- managed

So any and all use of sex outside of marriage is NOT God-approved and sinful.

Wis.16: 13 " For thou hast power over life and death;"

Sir.11: 14 “Good things and bad, life and death, poverty and wealth, come from the Lord.”

Let me try to boil down the responses into something more clear. The word being used is “arsenokoitai”. This does NOT mean “homosexual”. It means “a person who lies down with a man”. In context, it means a “man who has sex with men.”

Thus it does not indicate all homosexual men – since some do not have sex with men – and it does not indicate ONLY homosexuals – since some straight men DO have sex with men. It indicates an activity, not a disposition.

Yes, arsenkotai reflects back to Leviticus 18 which details what incest is right from the start.
Two men lying together ‘as’ (=‘when’) with a woman (ie a threesome) is an abomination because if she gets pregnant the father won’t be known and there is a potential for incest if any of the ‘orgy’ have other children in a small community. ‘Their blood will be upon them’. Blood is the family line. Revelation also makes the same reference to a woman with multiple men.

Two men lying together with a woman isn’t homosexuality.

PS A man lying with mankind with a woman indicates different bloodlines or families between the two men. In the context of Leviticus 18 this makes perfect sense.

Where do you get these interpretations of Scripture from, if I may ask? They run counter to a long Jewish and Christian tradition of understanding the texts.
 
Read Leviticus 18:1-21… What is it about? It is about incest. Why should verse 22 be any different?

Selecting single verses out of context is dangerous.

If you open a novel and read just one sentence it could mean anything. Take Moby Dick. The first line is ‘Call me Ishmael’. Sounds like his name isn’t really Ishmael. It turns out that the first line of the book is actually “The pale Usher—threadbare in coat, heart, body, and brain; I see him now.”

We hear the same thing over and over to the point we believe it.

Thinking for oneself is not a sin.

I have read Leviticus, and I have read 1 Corinthians and Romans in Greek. I cannot speak as an expert to the Leviticus passage, but what I read is a number of scattered rules about sexuality, with various reasons and motivations – not one united point. The word “as” does not mean “when”. I cannot speak to the Hebrew. Can you read Hebrew, or are you relying on a scholar – if so, which scholar?

I am a scholar of ancient Greek, and I can say that the most natural reading of the 1 Cor passage and the Romans passage is that it is banning sex between men. Sex between men was astonishingly common in the Roman world; banning orgies would be REDUNDANT, because Paul has already many times banned fornication. The idea that Paul thought “fooling around” with men was fine for men (as long as women weren’t around) is absurd and, indeed, misogynistic.

And by the way, I do certainly think for myself. The idea that agreeing with history means not thinking for oneself is also absurd.
 
As you can see ‘as with’ is a mistranslation. It means ‘Two men lying with a woman’… Go to BibleHub, enter the verse and it gives the original, be it Greek or Hebrew… Pop to Translate.Google.Com and put the word in… It’s not rocket science…

What have lesbians been forced to do, thanks to the church? They have had to change that which is natural to them to that which is against nature
Gay men have had to endure their feelings for other men while being told it is unseemly and being persecuted for their ‘error’ by those dishing out the recompense.

The sin was the meeting out of recompence for ‘error’, a vile affection.

Well, it doesn’t say that, to begin with.

What it says is “Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor boy prostitutes nor sodomites [will inherit the kingdom of God].”

St. Paul is saying that homosexuals who live in an unchaste and homo-sexually active relationship and are unrepentant (sodomites) will not inherit the kingdom of God.

This does not preclude homosexuals who live celibate, chaste lifestyles, neither does it preclude sodomites who repent before death entering the Kingdom.

Sorry… it does. You’ve been told over and over that LGBT don’t enter heaven and even if you go back to the original you will only see what you have been told to see, regardless of your linguistic skills. We see it all the time with moral theologians who are Catholic, even if they are professors in their field. They are not objective.

You remember the Alpha and the Omega in Revelation? What does he have protruding from his mouth? What do you think the two-edged sword represents? It seems to me that every passage in God’s Word can have two sides. Regarding LGBT and going to heaven you have chosen the path of discrimination and marginalisation. I offer the other edge.

Who then is following ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ more?

Condemning sin as sin does not mean I hate the people.

I am a recovering heroin addict. If I condemn heroin addiction does that mean I also marginalize and condemn myself? No, I am condemning the part of me drawn toward that particular sin.

You’re reading into my post your own prejudices. Who’s the one doing the marginalizing and judging here?

Like you I was addicted. It was to the teachings of the Church. I went through withdrawal and I came out the other side. I can’t change people’s views and don’t expect to. As John said ‘I am a but a voice in the wilderness’.
