Why does God do this to us?

I prayed for severals days for God to give me something I wanted quite badly. And it seemed like He was going to give it to me, but before the day was even over, he took it back. I almost feel tortured by this.

Why does God do this to us? Why?

When we ask for our own satisfaction, it’s almost for sure He won’t answer that prayer.

Just a thought or two. Maybe you’re experiencing a case of misplaced confidence? Or perhaps you may have just mis-read the situation. It happens, believe me. I am famous for mis-reading situations. It can be very disappointing. Try not to be discouraged. Pray that God explain to you what is going on. And make sure you keep your eyes and ears open.

Pray for what you need according to God’s will, not what you desire. Also, God answers prayers in His time, not ours.

In all prayer ask, “Father, thy will be done, not mine”

No, rather in all things we ask for we ought to pray and mean: “According to thy will.”

God always answers our prayers. Sometimes he answers yes, sometimes no, and sometimes not yet. If in the affirmative, it’s pretty evident, if in the negative the same, if “not yet,” it’s up to us to wait to see how and when God will give us what we’ve prayed for. Even then, however, it may not come as we expected or desired, but in all answers to prayer God knows best, something we need to keep firmly in mind when we ask for anything.

To not ask for anything is to go too far the other way. Consider what you are asking for. Spend time in prayer to ask for it, but keep in mind that your intention may not be part of God’s plan. Sometimes his answer is yes, sometimes no, sometimes something different. But if it is truly important to you, and you’ve discerned it’s something godly, you may need to keep your prayer intentions for more than a few days. Saints have spent years praying for their efforts, and there were times then when God met their prayers with answers and efforts they weren’t expecting.

If God had not given it to me, that would be one thing. But I feel almost like I have been punished because it was given to me for but a moment so my hopes would be up, and then it was taken away.

See, in my experience there are no regularities in answering of prayers. God forgive me, but it honestly feels like things just turn out a certain way, regrdless if I prayed for it or not…Kinda like pre-destination, like it’s inevitable that a certain amount of actions will result in you getting what you pray for…or not.

If there was a better pattern in prayers being answered, it would be a different story, but it’s so random…honestly sometimes I think it is just life and nature carrying on and we are to acceot things that happen, and no amount of praying, no matter how honourble the cause, will change that.

“Thy will be done, I, your servant, appect it, Lord.”

It’s confusing and leaves me to believe that there is no way that we will sway God’s will and no amount of praying or begging will do a thin about the outcome that is set out there in the future.

All we can do is accept it.

I’m not upset with god, personally, just reading the signs out there…

have you determined that it was really God who was acting in denying you what you were seeking? have you determined that what your were seeking so badly is actually in your best interests? philosophical question, are we even capable of knowing all the time which of many desires we have are for those things which are in our best interests?

for instance if I have been praying to land a certain job, and I thought it was a sure thing, and the company gave the job to someone else, I could not blame God for that action. and I have no way of knowing if in the long run that job would have been the best thing for me.

It is said that the Lord answers prayer in three ways: Yes, No, and Not yet. Consider that your torture may be self-inflicted. Christ, in the garden of Gethsemane, (Luke 22:42) prayed thus: “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”

His human nature desired strongly to avoid the sacrifice. He asked for it, so it should have been given Him, had He stopped His prayer at that point. But what disastrous results would have come about! There would have been no sacrifice and no redemption of man. His Divinity, being stronger and possessing perfect wisdom, submitted to the Will of the Father. If Christ defers to the Father, even submitting to torture and death, so must we. Christ remains our perfect example in everything. And so, we must also deny ourselves and our desires.

Modern prayer is limited by our desire for instant gratification. Do we not sometimes think that the instant answering of prayer both reveals and bolsters our faith? Actually, it can become a demand for a sign, and we know what Christ thinks about that. If signs are constantly given, is faith actually present? Faith persists even in the lack of signs - especially in the lack

So, desire that which the Lord desires for you. If you spend your life in prayer for this one thing, and never receive it, you can only imagine that it was not to be yours. If you begin to pray that His will be done, be ready to praise Him for both the good and the bad that come your way, as they represent His will for you. God is perfecting your soul in all of this, even the denials.

We hear much about faith. What about trust? Place your trust in Him Who loves you with an unfathomable love. This life passes quickly. Eternity spent in joyful adoration of God in His Kingdom is worth many lifetimes of suffering and unanswered prayer!

Sometimes I think that some people must think that all they have to do is list what they want and God will give it to them, much like children sitting on Santa’s lap. This poem always served me as a good reminder to let go and let God.

It seems this way to us because we cannot see the whole of God’s plan for each of us nor his plan for the world. Some day we will and then we will see when God answered our prayers before we asked and provided when we were clueless he was doing so, etc. We can’t understand everything in this life. If we could it wouldn’t be faith it would be certainty, wouldn’t it?

IMHO, I would say that this was not of God. It was either simple coincidence, or a scheme of the evil one to bring on despair in your heart.

I would suggest a strong examination of your motives in this followed by a prayer along the lines of:

Father, forgive my lack of confidence in your tender love. Forgive me for ever thinking that you would give me any gift or trial that was not for my own good and growth in You.

It’s not like that. I believe what tessi was saying is that whenever we ask for anything from God we have to take into consideration our motives. Do we want what we want just because we want it regardless of what God might want or the other person might want or what is best for all concerned. God will give us what we want if it is best for us, for the other person (in your case since you wish to hear from a bf), and best all around.

I once had a bf I was simply crazy about and it seemed to me we were a perfect match. I prayed and prayed for him to see that too so that we could be together doing, as I thought then, what would be pleasing to God and us. But, I was wrong. Years later I met my husband and am I grateful I married him and not the guy I was so crazy about.

I’m not saying that’s what God has in mind for you, everyone’s situation is different, but I am saying that if you put your desires into God’s hands he will give you what is best for you and best for what he wants you to be and to do. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus so that the present circumstances don’t overwhelm you no matter if you keep this bf or not.

It happened the same to me. I learnt not to put too much hope on events, let God decide.

God knows better than we do. I thank God for unanswered prayers. I thank Him for answered prayers. Sometimes I ask out of self-ambition when I should be praying for God’s aspirations to be fulfilled in my life. If He would’ve given me some of the things I asked for, I would’ve been really in deep trouble. It’s just that we don’t see that until later on in life.
