Why does Satan have to be so evil!

I can perfectly understand why the original poster has posed the questions they have.

I think if God touches you in a very profound way it becomes very difficult to imagine why anyone could be debasely evil, but that is the nature of evil. Satan does not love at all and if God were to shower satan with every grace and blessing of His love satan would still refuse God. This is absolutely shocking and we should be shocked by it and totally reject satan and all of his works.

In the Living Prayer of my life
I agree with you blessedstar. I’m too naive and need to be protected I guess.

Ok, this is where I got it from, a book called “The Book of Angels” by Ruth Thompson:

“However, the revered St. Jerome contends that Samael, as Lucifer, may be playing a role for God. From his study of the scriptures, Jerome posited that becoming the being known as Lucifer was a momumental task that God assigned to Samael, as he was the only Archangel strong enough to survive the ravages of a Hellish station. This burden, to live as an exile within the flames of Perdition until the End-time, will be revealed when, as a reward for his service, God will accept him back into the ranks of Angels and reinstate him to his full power and station as Archangel. St. Jerome was not alone in this belief, as famed religious scholars including Gregory of Nyssa, Origen, St. Augustine, and Ambrosiaster all agreed, in principle, with his theory.”

I’m not saying I believe this so please don’t scold me. I just found it interesting. And I just can’t understand why Satan will never come back to God, ESPECIALY if he knows what’s coming for him. Strange is all.
Please keep in mind that if you are reading a book which lacks the official imprimatur of the Catholic Church, then the information in that source may or may not be reliable. To avoid confusion, if I were you I would stick to officially sanctioned sources of information. Anything from TAN or St. Ignatius Press should be fine.

This is very interesting but it scares me. I am not sure why.

I feel like, it seems that most of the people who are lead astray are lead astray by things that ‘make sense’ like this. It seems to make sense but something in my gut tells me it is wrong. I guess whenever I see things that are like this I get scared because it could damage so many people by leading them astray and maybe they wont fear or worry about getting involved with Lucifer because in the end he might go back to God.

Every single person I know who is led astray is lead astray by something that makes sense or is a slight twist on the truth. I feel like that is the preferred method of Satin or something. I am not even sure I am making sense…but my gut is screaming that this isn’t right. (Not that you have to trust my gut.)

I don’t think we are supposed to know these things. We need to worry about our own souls. I think that maybe Satin likes when we take our thoughts away from God to him. I don’t like to please him.

the father would accept them back with open arms,
but they don’t want to go back and don’t want to
follow his instructions.
I’m trying to remember the source and the exact story. Basically when given a choice, the demon still refused the forgiveness that God offered. Given the option to repent, the fallen angels still say no.

I’d like to read these writtings from the fathers to see it for myself.

Maybe, but I’m not at all turning away from my Lord, I am His, no one elses. Also, I DO NOT blame my sins on Satan every single time. I am a sinner, I sin against my God. So whether these writtings are true or not make no difference to me, I love my Lord.

My worry wasn’t for those who are strong in their faith and since you are strong I am not worried about you. I am worried for others who aren’t so strong in their faith reading that post.

That is what scares me. Plus people who aren’t strong in their faith, or aren’t decided on a faith would be the ones who wouldn’t post a comment here. Make sense?

Yeah, I understand. Perhaps you’re right. i don’t know, I didn’t mean any harm. If they want they can delete it. I wouldn’t mind so that nothing bad could happen, as you say. I’m sorry.

Oh sad! Don’t say you’re sorry. It’s ok I know you meant no harm. Keep your chin up!

I was just voicing what my heart was feeling. I fear for people. It seems like there is a lot of that sort of boarderline religious stuff going on out there that can so easily mislead people. Di Vinci code comes to mind for instance. Here it was a book completely made up as admitted by the author and yet people have sort of turned it into cult-like beliefs and are actually taking Pilgramages to Italy based on the book!

I worry, probably to much about such things.

Satan!
What is he good for?
Why does satan have to be so evil?
I believe in God.
Therefore I believe satan is in the universe today.
Ah, how grateful I am that the devil is here today with God.
The devil…
How important is the devil?
I focus on the present. I live in the here and now as often as possible. I turn my back on evil everyday, sometimes I walk beside it, sometime within it. Yes I am evil, loving, hating, lost, found–merely human, with a soul of serenity, hope, faith and prayer–that does get dirty daily.

The devil.
If I live my day by practicing my life as member of Gods family, as a Catholic person, a spiritual person, I will have lived!
I live, evil dies.
I lived yet another day, the devil died yet another day.

I just don’t understand. Why can’t he go back to God Almighty? Is it because he’s so beautiful and powerful, that he just wants to be worshipped? Well then, why does he seek to destroy us. Can not anything change the mind Sammael, Lucifer?
There is no way back for Satan or anyone else who is in Hell. They are separated from God forever!

This post stimulates me:

No one knows the mind of Lucifer, if anyone does, they must be Lucifer!
Without the devil… what would life be like?

The Church teaching (from Scripture and Tradition) is clear on Satan and the other fallen angels. There is no way back for them.

THE FALL OF THE ANGELS

CCC 391 Behind the disobedient choice of our first parents lurks a seductive voice, opposed to God, which makes them fall into death out of envy. **Scripture and the Church’s Tradition see in this being a fallen angel, called “Satan” or the “devil”. **The Church teaches that Satan was at first a good angel, made by God: “The devil and the other demons were indeed created naturally good by God, but they became evil by their own doing.”

CCC 392 Scripture speaks of a sin of these angels. This “fall” consists in the free choice of these created spirits, who radically and irrevocably rejected God and his reign. We find a reflection of that rebellion in the tempter’s words to our first parents: “You will be like God.” The devil “has sinned from the beginning”; he is “a liar and the father of lies”.

CCC 393 It is the irrevocable character of their choice, and not a defect in the infinite divine mercy, that makes the angels’ sin unforgivable. There is no repentance for the angels after their fall, just as there is no repentance for men after death.”

CCC 394 Scripture witnesses to the disastrous influence of the one Jesus calls “a murderer from the beginning”, who would even try to divert Jesus from the mission received from his Father. “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.” In its consequences the gravest of these works was the mendacious seduction that led man to disobey God.

CCC 395 The power of Satan is, nonetheless, not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful from the fact that he is pure spirit, but still a creature. He cannot prevent the building up of God’s reign. Although Satan may act in the world out of hatred for God and his kingdom in Christ Jesus, and although his action may cause grave injuries - of a spiritual nature and, indirectly, even of a physical nature- to each man and to society, the action is permitted by divine providence which with strength and gentleness guides human and cosmic history. It is a great mystery that providence should permit diabolical activity, but "we know that in everything God works for good with those who love him

Thank you for this information.
We live and we learn.
I’ll study it now.

Why does it stimulate you? I was only curious is all. I guess it’s hard to take in that a creature, who is face to face with God, can actually REBEL against Him. What possible thought could have been going through his mind?? What kind of victory did he think he could acheive???

And I am a very humble forgiving person. I don’e even like killing bugs! so I was just speculating if it was all possible for him to be redeemed. I guess I was feeling sorry for him. Butg I know I shouldn’t cause he HATES me, and hates my God. That’s a DEFINATE no no!! 🙂

Yeah, I’ve read this before, long ago. But I am wondering, where does the Church get all this imformation from? It’s not in the Bible, not this detail. So where does it come from? Jewish tradition? Visions to the saints? Where??

Go to the CCC and see the reference numbers in each of the sections I quoted (I took them out) then go to the footnotes and you will find the scripture chapters/verses relating to them.
Also read Lateran Council IV (1215); DS 800 and St John Damascene, De Fide orth: PG 94,877.
