Why don't more "Traditionalists" get hands-on with the liturgy?

Trying to reason with Spiller, huh?

hehehehe

Well, it is rather difficult for non-traditionalists to recognize traditional methods of teaching, using traditional sources. That is not saying that those methods and sources are more Catholic, but that they are more proven and have stood the test of time.

In a similar vein, that is why a university like Ave Maria in Fla needs to re-evaluate its direction. Not only is it not a Catholic University (so says the local ordinary), but perhaps not even a university in the Catholic Tradition . oopps…there is that word again.

Regardless, TAC, Christendom etc all deserve our support to maintain what they are and have been… spiller can support what he wants to.
I’m in a ph.d program at a Catholic university.

Unfortunately, we had a tussle recently between the archbishop and a coach who made statements concerning abortion.

It’s a Jesuit school, so guess which party the school ended up siding with.

Actually, Notre Dame has been improving A LOT. McBrien is still there, but the vast majority (all but 2 or 3, IIRRC) of the theology department are orthodox, and have signed the mandatum.

There is also a very active Catholic community amung the students. Last fall they began offering the TLM every Sunday at the request of the students.

God Bless
Notre Dame and CUA are easily the finest Catholic universities in the nation and yes, both continue to improve.

Only the most ignorant of souls would equate the Holy Cross Fathers or other faithful ND priests to Fr. McBrien. Sadly that’s the only name some “Traditionalists” know when it comes to ND.

That is not true. What we are saying is that if you want to be as sure as you can that your kid won’t lose their faith, don’t count on ND to help you. But you can count on Christendom, TAC and WCC. Their entire mission is more about being Catholic and learning about being Catholic than about teaching a trade.

It is very nice that the Holy Cross Fathers are at ND, but they are not in charge, and Fr. McBrien is also there. At WCC, TAC, and Christendom, Fr. McBrien would be forcibly removed if necessary. He and his kind aren’t allowed because the liberal arts schools listed above wouldn’t want him to badly influence the college students in their care. They care more about the souls of their students than appearing politically correct by allowing Gay groups and pro-choice groups and bad priests.

Don’t try to prove to us that those universities are better at teaching students a trade. We already know that, TAC, WCC and Christendom already know that, that is why they don’t offer courses in those areas, but they do claim to be the best in the Catholic Liberal Arts. And I don’t see how you as a Catholic can disagree.

Cause they’d rather get their hands on you 😛

Seriously though Spiller, you are becoming quite famous, even on other forums. You even made the top ten list on one of them lol.

Sadly also is the fact he’s there and has been for quite a while infecting untold numbers of young minds with his unique, well maybe not unique to some:) maybe even you, brand of theology.

Until he’s gone we have to equate Notre Dame with him. They allow him there and allow him to spread his ideas. Who’s fault is that if not theirs? Even more sad is the fact that his Book, Catholicism, was praised and advocated by his peers at Notre dame including the then president Rev Theodore M. Hesburgh CSC, who encouraged ALL incoming students to Notre Dame to take McBriens class on the subject, which amazingly enough use the book he authored.👍 .

For those who don’t know McBriens book includes such gems as the statement that Jesus didn’t found the Catholic Church or any Church at all for that matter and that the miracles and life stories about him were concocted by later followers in order to legitimize their “movement” The Immaculate Conception and the Assumption of Mary are discredited and said not to belong in the core of the Catholic faith. Homosexuality and abortion must be left up to the individuals conscience and not the Church, etc etc etc as nauseum.

The USCCB roundly and rightfully rejected this book and refused an imprimateur for it, despite it going through numerous revisions. It was still so far out in left field as to be an embarrasment.

Yet Notre Dame, stood squarely behind McBride, never wavering in their support of him and continuing to allow him to preach and teach at that once great Catholic institution.

I think that speaks volumes about what is taught, practiced and believed by the staff at Notre Dame.

No one can dispute the fact that Notre Dame is a great secular university. It stopped however, being a solidly Catholic university a long long time ago in anything except name only.

Has anyone seen the state of higher education? It’s been a nightmare for decades.

Catholics should read the Idea of a University by Cardinal Newman and then compare that to the utter nonsense taught for years.

Liberalism, Modernism, Relativism, Positivism, economic socialism, and any other thing you can think of, has been taught for decades. The faculties are one sided and full of relativists.

All the universities are for the most part, are garbage.

Ivy League schools are just as bad. Throwing money away at Harvard and Yale is pretty sad. There is nothing prestigious about them. They teach the same rotten relativism that is everywhere. It just has a brand name.

I had a strong knowledege of my Catholicism and philosophy and I didn’t follow all the errors at my public University. I just went for the degree.

Universities are not for everyone and should only be tolerated to get the degree people need for careers.

Better a person get a job and be a holy man that raises a holy family, than to loose your common sense and reason in the crime that is higher education.

I am writing this sitting at a desk in one of Notre Dame’s dorms at this very moment. I can tell you from first hand experience that the Catholic atmosphere at this university abounds! Here it is summer and there are at least 6 daily masses that I know of (there could be more in other dorms). During the year that probably triples. Many of the students visibly say grace before meals. There are lines every day for confessions. There are crucifixes in every classroom. The rosary is recited daily at the grotto and there is a good number of people who attend. The art work around campus leaves no doubt this is a Catholic University. Almost every building has a chapel. The pealing of the basilica bells every 15 minutes constantly remind you that God is the most important thing here. In fact the motto over the eastern door to the basilica states - God, country, Notre Dame. Most of all, our Lady stands above the whole campus watching over it with motherly love.

Notre Dame could afford to clean up the theology section of its bookstore though- the theme seems to be dissent, with books covering women’s ordinations, homosexuality, etc.

Getting back to the original topic, I think we can say the question has been asked and answered. I’m not sure if an answer was actually sought here however the conclusion is evident.

“Traditionalists” don’t get more involved because they don’t believe it is their place to.
