I think it’s important to look at “both sides of the coin” as you say, because…it’s important to ask…What kind of people does this faith attract and keep, and what kind of culture does the faith support.

I need a faith that supports me in my real life, not just one that looks good on paper, or is “cool”, or whatever. I need one that is true, not just one that will make me feel cozy or safe, or smart or better than someone else. I need to see how it plays out in the lives of the followers.

Some faiths are so tied up in an invisible world, that they don’t really function in this one.

This really hit home with me when I had kids. I had to pass on a faith to those children. I had to look into the faces of those I loved most, that were intrusted into my care by the Divine and tell them how things were. That is when it mattered to me on an even deeper level what I believed, what was true, and what was worth handing to my kids as a tool for them to navigate life with. I wanted to give them the best possible faith, the truest faith that would enhance their lives.

Ideas that read really well on paper…may not be what’s best where the rubber hits the road. Life is not a philosophical debate, it’s real.

I believe you personally carry ‘some’ responsibility for the ‘evils’ of your tradition and it’s teachings by the fact of promoting it knowing what you should know.

Christianity was spread throughout europe by the sword of Charlemagne’s armies in service of the Pope. Do your history and you will find it outrageous to see the kind of posturing found on this and many other Axial Religious sites.

I’m only visiting to wake you up to the fact that there are those who haven’t forgotten and demand that europe be given back it’s birthright that was taken from them by Christian Usurpers.
