Peterborough’s a dump but the cathedral is nice. It’s where Kathrine of Aragon is buried.

She’s had flowers put on her gracve every day since she was buried.

Jesus is God, therefore we worship him and he most certainly came in the flesh.

I posted that scripture because you wanted proof for the Beatific Vision, I did not intend to prove the veneration of Saints with it.

No.

Maybe you saw people praying near statues and assumed that the statues were the target of their prayers? :ehh: Never have I heard anyone say, “Statue of Mary, please pray for me.” Have you?

Nobody said “Statue of Baal please pray for me” either.

This person is NOT a new member-he/she has 450+posts so I’m quite sure that he/she has seen Catholic apologetics on each subject that he/she is ranting about.In my opinion this person has no interest in discerning the truth or listening to Catholic explanations of the Faith but is only interested in telling us what we REALLY believe in.And it’s aaaaallllllll wrong.The original shotgun-style rant is something I would expect(and understand) from someone absolutely new to this website and who had no exposure to Catholic Answers-this person simply will not listen.

It got to the point where I felt I had to say why I am not a Roman Catholic.

I am sorry if I offended some of my Roman Catholic brethren in Christ but it got to the point where some needed to be offended to know where I stand.

As an American convert to catholicism (swam the tiber) from high church anglicanism I can appreciate the tenets of both.

2000 years of Church History and teaching of the same is in both.

I also hope all catholics would know about the “anglican use” mass and would attend the Mass at least once in their lifetime.

I’ve been to Huntingdon and seen the stone on a building that said Cromwell was born there. And as much as I like Ely. I always thought he was born in Huntingdon. I lived in Alconbury for 6 years. Not far from John Majors house.

I had friends who lived in Ramsey and yes Peterborough is a dump but no more than some other places the cathedral is nice I saw the opera Daniel and the three young men there. The place is more musty than other cathedrals I’ve been in. One of my fond memories is going up to Kings Lynn and listening vivaldi being played at the church up there. I didnt have a ticket to see it so I sat on the steps and listened. Very nice. I like Norwich so yes pass by the Fens plus when I was at Eye the people there gave me a strange look. I’m not sure if it was because they were raised in the fens or if my american accent was not appreciated. I couldn’t tell which. But my best time there was when I went up to the Lake distict for a week. Got lost hiking up there got wet but had a blast.

If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."

Roman Catholics and others claim this verse was only for The Apostles and ‘particular priests’ with ‘apostolic succession. I think that it is nonsense.

Luke 17:4
4If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, ‘I repent,’ forgive him."

If the Roman Catholic line of only ‘priests’ being able to forgive sins is correct then this verse must only be for them and not other Christians. After all what would be the point of a Christian ‘layperson’ forgiving someone if they that someone was still going to burn in Hell.

It is most bizarre.

Of course The Roman Catholic line is not correct.

Forgiving others is contrary to the worldly point of view. The world always wants to get even but those in Christ want to turn the other cheek (Not always admittedly) As their view point has changed to that of Christ’s point of view they are able to forgive. As they are one in Christ and Christ has the power to forgive they also have the power to forgive.

Christ gives all Christians the authority to forgive sins and through them being more like him he also gives them the ability to exercise that authority.

To say that only priests with apostolic succession can forgive sins is to say that only priests with apostolic succession are Christians.

At least the Pharisee view has been watered down. The Pharisees didn’t even believe they could forgive sins but it is still wrong.
