I have a bit of a funny personality, not haha funny, but I’ll explain. Sometimes I get strange thoughts in my head, and it actually has to do with I believe, symptoms of my OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), and ofter my symptoms manifest themselves as thoughts. For example, I dont want to think a certain thought, but then I struggle against it, and I have a great fear of thinking something. It especially pains me when this thought is contrary to my faith, etc.

Anyway, sometimes these thoughts creep into other religions, even religions I hardly know anything about, and it’s almost like I’m daring myself to think of something that is wrong or bad.

I really want to be a strong Catholic, but then I get these thoughts. Anyway, for whatever reason, I thought about Islam last night, I dont know why, but it bothered me… I just want reassurance from this group, and I want to know why we should not believe in Islam.

Hi Phil8888
There are many threads on this board you can do a search on, and you can see for yourself the arguments many of the Christians here put up against the Muslims. That would be a good start for you.

Sounds like you also suffer from scrupulosity, like me!

I just want reassurance from this group, and I want to know why we should not believe in Islam.
I will give you 4 major reasons:
  1. Founded by a corrupted man (Mohammad) who murdered his critics, married a 6yr old, plunged his region into war, enslaved entire villages (even children!), massacred POWs, and died of a simple poisoning.
  2. A flawed Quran that makes baseless claims, has errors, and had a much higher rate of violence than any other religious scripture out there. Unlike the bible’s violence which are limited and expired, the Koran’s violence is unlimited in duration.
  3. The Backwards & often Barbaric Muslim communities. Religion is just as good as the kind of people it breeds. Though Islam produced better people in the past, its policies are rigid, unchanging, and thus obsolete. The world had caught up and surpassed it. Thus while other countries are advancing, muslims are still trapped in the past. Islam remains as their biggest obstacle to progress.
  4. Islam mixes religion with politics. Need I say more?

The Epistle of St. Paul to the Galations Chapter 1::
[sup]1[/sup] Paul an apostle–not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead-- [sup]2[/sup] and all the brethren who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: [sup]3[/sup] Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, [sup]4[/sup] who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father; [sup]5[/sup] to whom be the glory for ever and ever. Amen. [sup]6[/sup] I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and turning to a different gospel-- [sup]7[/sup] not that there is another gospel, but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. [sup]8[/sup] But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we preached to you, let him be accursed. [sup]9[/sup] As we have said before, so now I say again, If any one is preaching to you a gospel contrary to that which you received, let him be accursed.

Almost every religion has mixed faith with politics - that doesn’t tell anything about its truthfulness. In fact, Westerner’s fear of anything vaguely religious in politics has left them in not just religious, but also moral vacuum, and is leading to the downfall of our civilization.

I would rather note that Islam has no historical or logical basis. All of the sudden God revealed to some guy that from now on pretty much everything that He had revealed about Himself is not true? Give me a break! If God truly is the Supreme Being who does not change in essence (and He cannot philosophically and theologically), then how comes He was basically deceiving everybody for many milennia (for nobody then even had a chance to know Him and the true faith). And if that’s true, then God just as well could show up to somebody tomorrow and declare that now all of the sudden Islam (the only “true” religion) is wrong and a new religion has to be established.

If you believe Jesus to be the Son of God, the Word spoken by the Father (see the beginning of John’s gospel), then you cannot be Muslim.

If you believe Islam, then you must reject Jesus, who said “Before Abraham was, I AM.”

And if that’s true, then God just as well could show up to somebody tomorrow and declare that now all of the sudden Islam (the only “true” religion) is wrong and a new religion has to be established.
If Islam is indeed the Truth, then someone will definitely show up someday and after initially claiming that he is a prophet and performing many seemingly miraculous acts, he will subsequently claim that he is God.

He is the Dajjal or the Antichrist and before he arrives, the Earth will suffer from an unprecedented drought that will cause vegetables and cattle to die off. At this time, he will come with huge amounts of food and water and other means.

Those who accept him as their lord, he will cause rain to fall on their land and supply with food and other essentials. Those who reject him, he will forbid rain from falling on their land and will prevent food and other means from being supplied to them.

Many will indeed believe and follow him.

His powers will be so great that he will rule the Earth for a few years. Then when he gathers an army together to fight against those that reject him, Jesus, peace and blessings be upon him, will descend and eventually destroy him.

Jesus will unite the world under one Government, one religion. Of course, Muslims believe that he will unite the world under the banner of Islam.

After all, apart from the Sharia, what other divine set of laws is there that is both universally applicable and comprehensive enough to govern all nations of the world?

Jesus will live on the earth for a time, marry, have children and then eventually die a natural death.

Jesus’ coming will be a sign of the approaching Day of Judgment. If any one makes a claim of being the Messiah during the approach of the Day of Judgment, neither in his life nor soon after him, then it is proved that he was a false pretender and not a true Messiah.

Jesus will not come to add or subtract anything from Islam. He will not claim himself to be a new Prophet or Messenger. He will not even lead a prayer of Muslims, he will follow in prayers the Imam of Muslims.

Jews and Christians living under Islamic rule were called dhimmis, or dhimma and were considered unbelievers. These dhimmis had to pay a poll tax, jizya, and the Koran (9:29) insists that this tax would be paid while being humiliated
Muslim attitudes towards non-muslims

In the book the author describes the 3 territorial divisions of the world from the perspective of Islam.

House of war:The land of the non-believers (harbis), called the lands of war dar al-harb where infidels to be fought because they oppose the establishment of Islamic law in their lands. As enemies of Allah they are accorded no rights: they, themselves and their property becomes fair game (mubah) for all Muslims.

They can be taken as slaves, kidnapped for ransom, robbed, raped, maimed or killed with impunity. War is to be waged against them in order to Islamize their territory which, according to the beliefs of Islam, must be conquered for Allah. If they resist, Islamic law provides for the deportation or massacre of the men and the enslavement of women and children.

House of truce:The land of non-believers currently under truce which is in respite between wars dar al-hudna. In principle, a truce with non-believers must not last more than ten years, after which jihad should resume. There are only two circumstances that justify that a truce be engaged with infidels by the Islamic authority. The first circumstance is one is where the Muslims forces are too weak to vanquish the infidels and the truce will allow them to regroup and restrengthen and the second one is whereby infidel states pay a tribute to the Muslims or contribute by numerous services to the advancement of Islam. In other words the truce is authorized only if it helps improve the Muslim’s situation and weakens the infidels. Truce is not a natural condition

Middle East Media Research Institute, “a textbook for 8th grade students explains why Jews and Christians were cursed by Allah and turned into apes and pigs. Quoting [the Quran’s] Surat Al-Maida [Sura 5], Verse 60, the lesson explains that Jews and Christians have sinned by accepting polytheism and therefore incurred Allah’s wrath. To punish them, Allah has turned them into apes and pigs.”

On the 13th of December 2002, Palestinian television used the occasion of the Muslim month of Ramadan to broadcast programs with a distinctly anti-Jewish theme, including a sermon in which Jews were called “the brothers of monkeys and pigs”.The sermon opened with: “Praised be Allah, who has cursed [the Jews], the brothers of monkeys and pigs, by a flow of curses that will go on until the Resurrection of the dead.”

The Jewish religious law.

Yes Sharia governs nations, but by violating human rights.

If Islam does indeed turn out to be the Truth, then wait till the unbelievers see how their “human rights” are going to be “violated” in the Hereafter.

Thats a big IF. Tough luck for you but Islam is WRONG. Thats why muslims are always defeated in debates. So what are you going to do now? Just believe in God and give up Islam. You dont need Islam to be a Monotheist. 🙂

I remember going to an Islam / Christian debate on the divinity of Jesus. The Christian speaker, who I think was a Catholic priest, was composed and formed his answers with clarity and gentleness, but the Muslim guy was popping a vein and going nuts. He was shouting and spitting and totally losing it and all the Muslims were cheering. It seems to me from watching the news and stuff, Muslims are just filled with so much rage, and they’re always yelling and shouting.

You dont need Islam to be a Monotheist.
Belief in monotheism means believing that there is only One Supreme Creator and all Truth comes from Him alone.

God has created only one human race and since He is not the author of confusion, therefore it logically follows that there can be only one Truth for humankind.

And there is indeed a divinely ordained method of testing and ascertaining the truth of Islam… or any other religion for that matter.
1 Thessalonians 5:21
Test everything. Hold on to the good.

Why are you quoting Biblical scripture? Plus, your argument doesn’t make sense. you make it sound like unless you can easily understand something, then it can’t be true. that’s a stupid argument. Unless you think you are equal with God, you must admit that God is infinitely greater than you are and infinitely more intelligent. the Trinity to God is simple to understand, he doesn’t even have to try.

Ok, and…? We as Christians accept this.

all Truth comes from Him alone.
We dont need religion to discover the Truth. Scientists & Psychologists can find them all out. The truths of physics and human behavior & sociology.
