Why is it better to be Catholic?

What do you mean when you say, “unbroken succession”?
 
The beliefs of the Catholic Faith: Scripture and the authoritative interpretation of the Church, Sacred Tradition.

In addition, most protestant strands lack valid Apostolic Succession and do not have the valid Eucharist, Tabernacle, etc.
 
Hi (name removed by moderator), the second video really got me thinking. The good father said that, “an infallible book without an infallible interpreter is a worthless book.” So there is apparently a CHAIN of infallibility that exists to insure that Catholics are getting the truth…all of it that is needed. But does God only save Catholics?
 
Thanks for your response. I guess the part that I’m not understanding is the need for this chain of infallibility. The second video talks about how “an infallible book without an infallible interpreter is a worthless book.” But your response is more about our duty to obey the commandments and live for God, which is all good, but if we are able to make ourselves into good people, why do protestants need the Catholic Church for that?

I completely agree with you. It all gets down to faith, and I don’t think that saving faith necessarily has to be Catholic Church faith. I think that saving faith is faith in who Jesus is, and what Jesus has done to save us from our sins. To live by faith is a lot harder than just believing that God exists. Saving faith in Jesus means trusting in Him, instead of money, status, our own intellect, etc.
 
Fr. Mike had a good video for good Friday. About his autobiography and all of ours. That was great. Other than that I am not sure how relevant he is in this case.

If you want to follow Jesus, then being in the church that He created, the Catholic Church, will be the logical step. To be in the Catholic Church is to wholly follow Jesus in His Church.

The Catholic Church is the only one with ALL four marks of being “One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic.”
 
No other church has all 4 marks.

One = all members profess same Faith, have same sacrifice and sacraments, united under one and same visible head (the Pope).

Holy = because it was founded by Jesus Christ who is all-holy, and because it teaches according to will of Christ, holy doctrines, and provides the means of leading a holy life.

Catholic = means universal; destined to last for all time, teaches all nations all the truths revealed by God.

Apostolic = because it was founded by Christ on the apostles according to His Divine Will, has always been governed by lawful successors.
 
As others have noted, we have the full truth. We have the Sacraments. Especially the Most Holy Eucharist! Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. Doesn’t get any better than that! And I can’t even begin to think of where I’d be without the Sacrament of Reconciliation. What a great Church Our Lord has given us. Oh yes…we have our Blessed Mother. Be lost without my Mother, Mary!!!

How did you learn these things? Did someone tell you that there are four “marks” and not five, three, or some other number? Is the Catholic Church apostolic or is it papal?

Did someone tell you that the Catholic Church is the one He created? How can we be sure it’s true? My protestant church can easily say that it too, is one, Holy, catholic, and apostolic…according to the definition provided here.

Ask people who are in purgatory if being subjective means anything to them.
 
I am Catholic because the Catholic Church is the original church founded by Jesus. As someone else mentioned, there has been an unbroken of succession of popes tracing back to St Peter. This is history.
I am not sure if Protestant churches could easily claim to be apostolic, since they were only established after the Reformation, long after Jesus was on earth.

We also have Jesus! ❤️ So do the Protestant churches, of course, but it is in the Catholic Church where we are able to receive Him body, blood, soul and divinity in the Eucharist. If I knew I could be that close to Him, why wouldn’t I be Catholic?

Isn’t it true that at various times in history there have been two or three popes all at the same time? Was it intentional or did it occur unintentionally? How can that be consistent with an "unbroken succession of popes?

Doesn’t the bible teach us that we receive Jesus by faith? Here, you seem to suggest that He can be received in a physical way by eating Him.

But my church considers the bible to be “full truth”. Am I being misled?
 
Jesus is the Eternal Truth. “I Am the way, the truth, and the life.” The Bible is inspired by God but needs correct interpretation. Jesus gave that authority to the Church and the Holy Spirit guides the Church.

Hopefully changes us? How can that be? I believe that to receive Jesus is ALWAYS a life changing event. I also believe that we can only receive Him by faith, which means that no one can ever receive Him in a physical way.
 
How do you know the Bible is the inspired and inerrant word of God?
 
By what reason are they mutually exclusive?

The Eucharist requires faith — faith that Jesus, for whatever reason, chose to dwell among us and become true, literal Food for us. He said in the Bible in literal terms, and people left because they were incredulous and skeptical of His claims. He never backed down.
