As has been said here, Jesus is the New Covenant. I’m curious as to why some Christians are still adhering to the Law of Moses. The New Covenant changes many things. Why is it that this particular practice (Sunday worship) is so hard to grasp.

If you are going to follow Saturday Sabbath doctrine, why are you not still offering animal sacrifice?

As Saturday Sabbath keepers you appear to be following Moses instead of Jesus and His Apostles.

God chose the day on which to perfect His Covenant with us.
In the New Covenant God promises to write His Law on our hearts–calling the 10C “the law of Moses” is a misnomer.

Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

The animal sacrifices were symbolic of Christ’s sacrifice for us on the Cross–therefore those laws were nailed to the Cross (Col. 2:14).

Why is this so hard to grasp?

DJ,
I think you are not being completely upfront about the Adventist view of Catholicism. Anti-Catholicism is rampant throughout the works of Adventist Writers and the teachings of the Church. The issue is so obvious that the GC published a statement on their website explaining their “relationship” with Catholics.
I have been VERY upfront about the SDA view of Catholics and the Roman Catholic Church. Pastors have explicitly told the congregation that there will be more Catholics in heaven than SDA’s (and not just because of numbers either). The congregation has been explcitly told that it was because they (the Catholics) were living up to the light they knew, while too many SDA’s weren’t.
but the Church is certainly very Anti-Catholic. All one has to do is read the works for the SDA Prophetess EGW and her references to the Popery and “unholy alliances” of anyone who joins with the Catholics Church in end times.
The first part is false, the second is sort of true (drop the part about “prophetess”) and the SDA church has never had a teaching about what church people join. They have been repeatedly stating this was the case. Is the logic too hard?

Your first quote isn’t anti-catholic and you failed to note the source and page.
If SDA’s were anti-catholic then why would pastors preach that there will be more Catholics in heaven than SDA’s?
Then can you tell me why the General Conference advised my mother-in-law that she was not to allow a priest on her property for my son’s marriage?

**Side note, she was misinformed as to my intensions as my son is not catholic even though I am. No priest would have married them regardless of the GC’s position.

This is quite shocking to hear since we are a congregational church (the GC CANNOT dictate to us what we will do or not do). And they certainly cannot tell us what to do on our own property.

Misnomer? The commandments are not the Law of Moses. The Ten Commandment were written by God’s own hand. The Law of Moses, or the Torah was written by Moses with the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Treating them as one and the same is the misnomer.

?? Dunno.

The Sabbath is part of the 10C–it isn’t in the law of Moses. So, why say that SDA’s were living by the law of Moses when the Sabbath isn’t even in there? See the problem with the original post?

why do you still follow the Law of Moses?
They don’t. They follow the 10C which, as you stated, aren’t the law of Moses.

Gross miscommunication as to who said what? What was the TV show with the line: “What we have here is a failure to communicate.”?

Yes, but the Ten Commandments don’t say anything about unclean meats or the Sabbath being the first day of the week. That comes from the Law of Moses.

The law of unclean meats is made explicit in the law of Moses, but was known (back at the time of the Flood even) far earlier. It’s just a question of good health. God is our Creator (back to the Sabbath again!) and He knows what is best for us.

If you have a feed mill near by check out the large cans of Drano–I wondered why so big? Then on the back I read the iunstructions on how to flush out a pig!

The law of Moses doesn’t say anything about which day (much less Sunday) being the Sabbath.

Actually, the unclean meat was not about health at all. It was part of an entire instruction “manual” if you will on keeping oneself pure. So it was a matter of purity. That indeed was from Mosaic Law.

For instance, if a woman was on her period or had just given birth, she was considered unclean. If a person handled a dead animal that person was considered unclean.

To make oneself clean again, they must wash (in a special ritual) and then make an animal sacrifice. So I would think if you were going to follow Mosaic Law, you would follow it in it’s entirety and not in part.

SDAs have chosen one singular part of an instruction on purity, turned it into something about health so they can disregard the rest of the instruction and claim it for themselves.

Afterall, not entering the church while “unclean” would be a little inconvenient and certainly offering an animal sacrifice for purity would be out of the question.

But…not eating pork and other meats would be simple enough and would set them apart from other religions. This follows the foundation of most Protestant regligions. That is, taking just enough to present themselves as good Christians, changing that just enough to set themselves apart and then naming themselves for that which they chose to set themselves apart.

Hence Lutherens, SDAs, Methodists, etc. etc.

On the matter of the Sabbath. I realize it’s not in OT law. So where does this come from?

DJConklin,
Whether a pastor has said there were going to be more Catholics than Adventists in heaven or not is not the issue. Not to mention that unless the Pastor is all knowing, he has no clue as to who is living up to what “light” they have. God judges the hearts of Man… not your pastors.

The issue is whether the teachings and messages of the Adventist Church to the rank and file member of the Church are anti-Catholic. I think it is quite easy to demonstrate that they are… The Adventist Church is certainly not pro-Catholic… it is VERY anti-Catholic.

Secondly… I am confused why you said to “drop” the prophetess reference below, when speaking of Ellen White. The Adventist Church claims that EGW had the gift of prophecy. If one has the gift of prophecy why would you not call her a prophetess?

A prophet is: "
  1. a person who speaks for God or a deity, or by divine inspiration. A person regarded as, or claiming to be, an inspired teacher or leader.
This is what the SDA Church claims of EGW and what EGW Claims of herself. Why are you ashamed of calling her what your church believes she is?

In fact: Here is a list of books available from the Adventist Book Center right now… the official store of Adventist literature and media.

If EGW is not the SDA Prophetess then I think someone forgot to tell the writers of your denominations books. All of these books/DVD’s are published be either Pacifica Press or Review and Herald, both official publishing houses of the Church.

You said the SDA Church has never had a teaching about what Church people join? Explain what you mean please.

DC,
Please show me a reference in scripture that teaches that the Antediluvian followers of God abstained from pork?

DJ,
The Sabbath is part of the Law of Moses. There is no difference between the “law of Moses” and the “Law of God”, there is one law!

Nehemiah 8 Makes this PERFECTLY Clear.

Vs 1: And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.

It was the book of the Law of Moses that the LORD Commanded.

Vs 8: So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

The book (of Moses from Vs. 1) and the Law of God are the same thing.

Vs 14: And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:

In the Law of God (Vs. 8) they found written the fest of booths.

Vs 18: Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner.

The chapter ends by telling us that the read the book of the law of God daily. The Same book that in Vs. 1 was called the Law of Moses… THERE IS ONLY ONE LAW… the terms are used interchangeably in scripture.

The idea that there was two laws is a creation of man designed to try to defend man-made doctrines.

This does not mean that Adventists hate Catholics, but the Church is certainly very Anti-Catholic. All one has to do is read the works for the SDA Prophetess EGW and her references to the Popery and “unholy alliances” of anyone who joins with the Catholics Church in end times. Or her references to the Pope as the Beast of REvelation, which is still a main teaching of Adventism.
But the Catholic Church is very anti-Adventist. What do you expect? We are like night and day in many respects; but I was glad to see that you recognized that this “anti” thing does not equate with “hatred.” We are making some kind of progress, I believe. 🙂

Hold the phone! First, the comparison is not in the Mosaic Law and God’s Law, it was the Mosaic Law and the Ten Commandments. There IS a very distinct difference in these two.

The Sabath was NOT in the Mosaic law, but the Ten Commandments. Mosaic law was a form of civil law, not Holy Law if you will.

Oh, there you are. Why have you not answered questions posted to you on your own thread?

Well, pork has nothing to do with the Sabbath; and this coming from someone who keeps preaching “the new covenant.” Why would it even matter to you all of a sudden here what happened in the OT on this issue? Do I smell a false pretense to groom us into dismissing other “laws” of the Bible, such as the fourth commandment?

I would be interested to see what YOU mean when you say “law of Moses?” First, what is the law of Moses? Is it The Ten Commandments?
