Why is "the end" so complicated? (Edited title)

The Book of Revelation was written at a time when the Catholic Church was being persecuted by its enemies, especially the pagan Roman Empire. It was probably written in such a “complicated” or cryptic style to help protect any Christian who might be caught with a copy or proclaiming its contents publicly. It would have been much safer for a Christian to be found carrying a copy or publicly proclaiming a story about the overthrow of a woman named Babylon than a story about the coming overthrow of the pagan Roman Empire.
I wish to correct some allusions… “when the catholic church was being persecuted…”
The Roman Catholic church came later as the official religion for all (catholic) in the Roman Empire.
Immediately after Jesus, the church had no systems, even the word ‘Church’ had not been coined. Its when apostle Paul started the churches among the gentiles when the word ‘Church’ was introduced including the titles eg Bishop, Beacons, Pastors etc
To assert that the Christians who were persecuted by the Roman Empire were Roman Catholics would not be correct.

What is not correct is this post. Church was introduced by Jesus. The Catholic Church began on Pentecost. The Catholic Church did not suddenly appear with Constantine.

I would need to do a little research, but as I recall, the early christians met in their homes to “break bread”, that is offer Mass. And then as time went on and there were too many christians for a home, so they began to build churches in order to “break bread”.

May God our Father give you grace and peace.

Just to clarify a little. The building that we call a church is called that because that is where the Church meets.

Church is the people.

=thistle;11492740]Sorry, but how can teachings change? They are documented. They are clearly stated in the CCC and underpinned by Church documents including Scripture and have been explained thousands, if not more, of times. I really do not see how anybody could be deceived.
A GREAT many Protestants seem unable to discern that the Catholic CHURCH has
Dogmas [unchangeable]

Doctrines [unchangeable]

& PRACTICES which ARE changeable:thumbsup:

So the accusation that we change our Teachings is a lack of understanding:)

Just to clarify a little. The building that we call a church is called that because that is where the Church meets.

Church is the people.
FROM THE CATECHISM OF THE CC
789 The comparison of the Church with the body casts light on the intimate bond between Christ and his Church. Not only is she gathered around him; she is united in him, in his body. Three aspects of the Church as the Body of Christ are to be more specifically noted: the unity of all her members with each other as a result of their union with Christ; Christ as head of the Body; and the Church as bride of Christ.

811 “This is the sole Church of Christ, which in the Creed we profess to be one, holy, catholic and apostolic.” These four characteristics, inseparably linked with each other, indicate essential features of the Church and her mission. The Church does not possess them of herself; it is Christ who, through the Holy Spirit, makes his Church one, holy, catholic, and apostolic, and it is he who calls her to realize each of these qualities.

1181 A church, “a house of prayer in which the Eucharist is celebrated and reserved, where the faithful assemble, and where is worshipped the presence of the Son of God our Savior, offered for us on the sacrificial altar for the help and consolation of the faithful - this house ought to be in good taste and a worthy place for prayer and sacred ceremonial.” In this “house of God” the truth and the harmony of the signs that make it up should show Christ to be present and active in this place.

Church
The faithful of the whole world. This broad definition can be understood in various senses all derived from the Scriptures, notably as the community of believers, the kingdom of God, and the Mystical Body of Christ.
As the community of believers, the Church is the assembly (ekklesia) of all who believe in Jesus Christ; or the fellowship (koinonia) of all who are bound together by their common love for the Savior. As the kingdom (basileia), it is the fulfillment of the ancient prophecies about the reign of the Messiah. And as the Mystical Body it is the communion of all those made holy by the grace of Christ. He is their invisible head and they are his visible members. These include the faithful on earth, those in purgatory who are not yet fully purified, and the saints in heaven.
Since the Council of Trent, the Catholic Church has been defined as a union of human beings who are united by the profession of the same Christian faith, and by participation of and in the same sacraments under the direction of their lawful pastors, especially of the one representative of Christ on earth, the Bishop of Rome. Each element in this definition is meant to exclude all others from actual and vital membership in the Catholic Church, namely apostates and heretics who do not profess the same Christian faith, non-Christians who do not receive the same sacraments, and schismatics who are not submissive to the Church’s lawful pastors under the Bishop of Rome.
At the Second Vatican Council this concept of the Church was recognized as the objective reality that identifies the fullness of the Roman Catholic Church. But it was qualified subjectively so as to somehow include all who are baptized and profess their faith in Jesus Christ. They are the People of God, whom he has chosen to be his own and on whom he bestows the special graces of his providence. (Etym. Greek kkyriakon, church; from kyriakos, belonging to the Lord.)

I think this is the right forum. I read my Bible every morning and evening, one chapter from the OT in the morning and one from NT in the evening, and I have reached The Book of Revelations and I did start to ponder about one thing. Why is “the end” so complicated?
Not that complicated. Just that only God knows the “end of the age”. Not even the Angels in Heaven know. However, they are always ready! 100 million Angels at least. Supernatural and powerful Angels of Heaven…🙂

“end of the age” - Could be one hour from now. Tomorrow. Next month. 10 years, 20 years, 2,000 years from now. Waiting for the right moment.

“Parable of the Weeds”. Jesus shows how this “end of the age” will be like. Gives a good way of showing this “End”…And it will be a Harvest. Separating the bad from the good.

And it seems like another war or battle. I am certain Satan will not sit by and do nothing. Unless, Satan surrenders and does nothing.

Mathew Chapter 13:24-30.

24
He proposed another parable to them. “The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field.
25
While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off.
26
When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well.
27
The slaves of the householder came to him and said, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?’
28
He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’ His slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
29
He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them.
30
Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, “First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.”’”

Parable of the Weeds - explained.

36
Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
37
He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man,
38
the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one,
39
and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
40
Just as weeds are collected and burned (up) with fire, so will it be at the end of the age.
41
The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers.
42
They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
43
Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear.

Very interesting post, Eagle.

. I just watched a series on the space age and going to the moon, and the words: “The Eagle has landed.” come to my mind… 😉

. Every end is followed by a beginning. The end of the age is followed by the beginning of the next age. I hesitate to use the phrase “new age” for its current connotations, but with the space age, the computer age, modern medicine, etc, etc, it is clear that mankind has transitioned, or is in transition, from one historic age to another. What is the cause of this? What is the great catalyst which has caused such change in every aspect of human life?

. Clearly, we are living at the time foretold when “Knowledge shall increase!”

. As you post: “end of the age” - Could be one hour from now. Tomorrow. Next month. 10 years, 20 years, 2,000 years from now. Waiting for the right moment."

. Perhaps it has already occurred and we are already into it. It is unfolding before us and we are further along than we think…

I wish to make a comment on this.
The main difference seems to be on the Dogmas. Without the Dogmas the Catholic faith would be similar to that of the protestants.

Dear Daler,
The power of God in not in the numbers but in the Spirit of God. And the two witnesses have it and will cause such a trouble, that people will have to rethink their believes, because they are witnesses of Jesus Christ from inside the Catholic Church.

If you imply that the 2 witnesses are just 2 individuals, how will they cause trouble in the whole world? Other questions is what part of the world shall they be, what language shall they speak, how shall they have authority over sovereign governments?
If they will not be popes, what shall the pope be telling the church?

I think the whole of the book of Revelation is symbolic with a hidden meaning. Thus the 2 witnesses should not be taken literally, rather symbolically.
Revelation was written with a Jewish context. In the Mosaic law, a witness of two people was required to pronounce judgement, even for death.
The 2 witnesses must be referring to a caliber of people holding a sure testimony of Jesus throughout the world at a time of great apostasy/secularism/godlessness.

Why the “end” is so complicated is because, as in Daniel, even Jesus, and John in Revelation indicated that the symbolic meanings are “sealed” until the time of the end when the Lord Himself would “unseal” their hidden, symbolic, allegorical truths. Until then, people wander distracted in vain and pointless speculation.

That which is veiled by God is veiled to man until such time as God, through His chosen Prophet, “unseals” the Holy Books. This indeed has been done. Read the Kitab-i-Iqan, or Book of Certitude, by Baha’u’llah and you will find all the obscure meanings, allegories, etc unveiled to your eyes in clear, logical, and concise language of pure eloquence and profound wisdom.

The Two Witness, for example, refer to Muhammad and Ali, but the great prejudice in the west refuses to even consider it. The Revelation verses about 1260, also found in Daniel, refer to the year 1260 AH, or 1844 AD, when the Bab (Gate) appeared in Persia, which was Elam at the time of Daniel, and where he had his vision, while in Susa, of the 2300 days (which are years), beginning in 457 BC and ending in 1844 (1260)

Abdul Baha also explains that while the Two Witnesses do in fact refer to Muhammad and Ali, they also refer to the Bab and Quddus (one of the Letters of the Living).

The “Beast” in Revelation refers to the Ummayyads, who corrupted and divided the true and pure teachings of Islam, which led to slaughter and domination by the sword and what remained of most of the Muslim religion was void of the original spirt and purpose of Islam. But as it was prophesied to be, so it was, and can now be understood by an open and searching mind.

I would recommend “Some Answered Questions” by Abdul Baha

Absolute nonsense!

I have read various documentaries on Revelation and have heard that the Two Witnesses are:

Moses and Elijah
Moses and Enoch
The Law and the Prophets
The Jews and the Christians
The Body and the Blood
Muhammad and Ali
The Old Testament and the New Testament

Is there any I’ve missed?

IMOH, people tend to understand things based on their own perspective, background, and the historical times in which they live.

I think that just as Jesus had to explain Old Testament prophecies regarding his first coming even to his closest disciples, that he’ll probably have to explain most of the 2nd coming prophecies to us when he comes again, and then we’ll finally understand it all, and it will seem obvious
:doh2:

Simca,
. Yes, that is true, but what people run into every time a Messenger of God is sent is that They are first rejected by the leaders of the former Faith, opposed by the clergy, who set the example for the sheep who unwittingly follow their lead. Hence, whatever the latest Messenger from God says, it will be rejected for centuries by the masses until enough of them catch up to the speed of the times, and then the sheep who enjoy following can follow them in.
. What is required is independent investigation of the truth. Not to follow blindly like sheep and simply imitate others. Whoever does this will of course be castigated as being non-sensical, ridiculed, and rejected.
. The credibility of any set of beliefs should be reviewed by all who claim it as their own. To simply inherit beliefs and echo whatever it is that surrounds us is invalid, even if it is the truth.

. “O SON OF SPIRIT! The best beloved of all things in My sight is Justice; turn not away therefrom if thou desirest Me, and neglect it not that I may confide in thee. By its aid thou shalt see with thine own eyes and not through the eyes of others, and shalt know of thine own knowledge and not through the knowledge of thy neighbor. Ponder this in thy heart; how it behooveth thee to be. Verily justice is My gift to thee and the sign of My loving-kindness. Set it then before thine eyes.” from the Hidden Words of Baha’u’llah

Hi Daler,
I strongly differ with your interpretation and view.
First, Islam came 600 years after Jesus whereas the Revelation was to Churches not to mosques or temples or even synagogues. There is no one time Christians borrow from Islam or any other religion on the fulfillment of the biblical prophecies.
The book of Revelation would be authentically interpreted in the context of Christianity, and a background of pre-Christian Jewish religion and history. This is because even Christ Himself kept quoting the Old Testament prophets and Psalms. His lineage has a whole Jewish history.

Thus, the interpretation by Baha’u’llah would fail to meet the threshold of authenticity.

Dr Scott Hahn has a GREAT take on this. He authored a book [can’t recall the name of it but I’m sure its on hos web site; where the book is largly about the Most Holy Eucharist
Thanks.
I’ve read Dr. Scott’s interpretation of the book of Revelation. However, I’d like to know if this interpretation is the Catholics infallible understanding of the the book of Revelation.

Oska,
. In the Book of Daniel, the meaning of his vision of 2300 days (years) was “sealed” to him. He was given a vision without understanding it, the Lord saying: “It is not for you to know. Go thy way…” It states that it would be sealed until the time of the end (of the 2300 days)
. The Book of Revelations also states the meaning as being sealed. It gives the same figures as Daniel, ie. 1260, 42 months, which is also 1260 (42 X 30 days per month). Again, a reference to 3 1/2 days (of years) equals 1260, the same as time (360), times (720), and a half (180), which equal 1260.

. As the meaning was sealed until the time of the end, and for you the time of the end has not come, you cannot know the meaning, for it remains unsealed to you. From the Baha’i perspective, however, we have the benefit of these symbolic terms all being “unsealed” to us. This is the difference in our perspective.
. One can deny the evidence without ever having examined it, or one can investigate truth for oneself. I cannot do this for you, but only site my references, which prove with conclusive proofs and evidences, and are the cause of millions of souls from every nation and religion discovering that indeed, the Holy Books of all of them have been unsealed, their meaning made clear, and their mysteries solved.
. I am not making this up, nor inventing imaginary scenarios. Specifically, The Kitab-i-Iqan unseals the abstruse meanings of the terms used in the Bible and the Quran, and unseals their meaning. This Book was written in two days by Baha’u’llah without pause, yet gives numerous references to the Bible and the Quran, revealing with clarity that which has admittedly been a mystery for ages to both Biblical and Islamic scholars who could only speculate and contradict each other, taking literal that which is allegorical.

Thanks Daler,
The central theme of the Bible is Christ; the central theme of Qur’an is different.
One of the foster fathers of prophet Mohammed was a Christian and must have taught him some basics of Christianity.
It doesn’t mean that we Christians don’t have an interpretation of the book of Daniel or Revelation, we have. And, surprisingly it does not point to any of your suggested interpretations.
