Traditions of men
Is it against anything that is in the Bible?

What I don’t get is why, when you’re against celibacy (though there is no biblical basis for being against it), you say that the CC is improving Christ’s selection process instead of saying that it is debasing the selection process.

But that doesn’t matter much, since your logic is off. Your question doesn’t make sense.

The CC doesn’t believe that it has “improved” on the selection process, since it doesn’t believe that the selection process has changed in the first place. .

Celibacy is a discipline for men who have answered a call from (who have been selected by) God.

Christ didnt find it to be a requirement.
Can you tell me why you think you can improve on Christ?
Christ is our perfect model. Saint Paul is another example of celibacy. Besides, this is a discipline of the church. It can, and has changed. It is not dogma. Eastern rite Catholic clergy is often married.

Christ’s peace.

Just wondering I know the CC is really big on tradition so I was wondering why this one changed?
  1. There is big T Tradition and small t tradition. Small t can change. Big T is fixed truth. Priestly celibacy is a discipline taught by the church. It is not dogma.
Besides, Christ said that man cannot serve two masters…

If it started from the beginning by the Church founded by Jesus = tradition of man.
If it started as early as the 1600’s through today by any group other then that Church founded by Jesus…well that is not tradition of man. 🤷

Based on your previous post, your knowledge of your own faith is questionable anyway. However, I am merely pointing out in my post that celibacy is not unique to the church. Your perception staggers my imagination. However, you would do well to research and see how much pagan influence actually is in some of the churches teachings.
My faith is questionable? Are you speaking about my Roman Catholic faith is questiionable? or are you insinuating my Personal Roman Catholic faith? I thank you for your compliment anyway, I consider this a testimony for my Lord Jesus, and may God reveal his Love to you.

I agree celibacy is not unique to the Catholic faith. I have done an unbiased research of how the Roman Catholic church through the blood and lives of her saints, martrys and Popes since the apostles have conquered through the blood of Jesus Christ and converted many pagan rulers and peoples.

It has been mentioned of tradition of men and Traditions of the apostolic Cathoilc church. These small “t” traditions of men is what has you confused with pagan traditions from the peoples that the Roman Catholic churhc converted. coach I must emphatically disagree with you about the teachings having pagan influence, your history obviously has been tainted with a biased prejudice.

For one the teachings of the Roman Catholic church come from Jesus himself and his apostles unchanged. Now I would challenge you to disclose one TEACHING of the Roman Catholic church that has pagan influence. MY guess will be your response will do with traditions of men that have changed from their pagan lifestyles, to Christianity. Now know this, the Roman Catholic church is not in the business of taking away man’s traditions so long as they do not affect the lifestyle of the Christian. And history records that the pagan world conversion to Christianity was done on the blood of the Catholic church, not by the sword, this peaceful means is what took time to teach pagans christianity lifestyle. For every pagan influence that try to enter the Church, I could provide for you a Catholic bishop, Pope and or council that refuted the practice and converted the pagan to leave his ritual. But this has nothing whatsoever to do with the Catholic church taking in pagan teaching into her teachings. I hope we can discipher between what is a man tradition and what is a Christian teaching.

You have chosen to mention paganism with celibacy, to which I have called your bluff, before you allow your “staggering imagination” to infect what is holy before God and his Holy Apostolic Catholic church.

again to attack the Roman Catholic church, ones comes against a rock which cannot be moved, to attack me personally about my Catholic faith, is a blessing. So thank you

Peace be with you

Peace be with you.

I thought we were talking about the Pope not being married, not who has more faith. Honestly it would work much better if you guys discussed your opinions without attacking each others faith!! can’t we all just get along??😃 😃 😃

Was Jesus Married? The answer to that is NO!

Was St. Peter Married and a few other apostles others were Married? The answer to that is YES!

Some Apostles that were Married put Jesus before their wives and good to do so. The Apostles changed their lives thought it easier to dedicate their entire lives to Jesus Christ, a hard thing to do it is only a calling from Jesus Christ to do so.

As you well know or do not want to know is the fact that the Apostles were the early Church Fathers of the Catholic faith.

Now the Catholic Church regarding Priests, Monks, Bishops, Cardinals the Pope want to live like Our Savior Jesus Christ a celibate life.

Again, was Jesus Christ Married? NO NO NO!

:ouch: I never made mention about who has more faith, I questioned his knowledge of his own faith. I thought that was written pretty clearly.

okay sorry! not trying to put words in your mouth - but still your comment was a little mean

Gabriel of 12;3728166:
Oh, I am sorry I always include Faith, with knowledge, the only difference when one tries to seperate them lacks TRUTH. So forgive me if we have a misunderstanding of What is TRUTH and what is knowledge with out faith.

You must be some kind of coach if you are insulting my intelligence, which bares no knowledge, only faith.

coach I really do not have a clue from my post, that gives you that impression of me and my Knowledge of faith? maybe you can referr me to a post that help me understand your prejudices against me. I pray you are a Roman Catholic so as to show my limited knowledge of faith, and maybe you can help me to grow to your level of knowledge. Provided we remain on topic here.

Peace be with you…

Peace be with you

Now, I am no longer a Catholic, but would share anything you want to know. That is until tomorrow, when I will be off for a while as I have previously stated. I just extra time today, and saw a couple of posts addressed to me directly.

Why not tell us what’s so wrong with celibacy?
Ask St. Paul. Didn’t he say that it was better to remain unmarried, unless one was “burning”, when then one should marry so as not to sin.

I’m not an expert on the subject of evangelical councils, but I believe that celibacy is one of them. An evangelical council being something that is highly recommended in scripture, but not a calling given to everyone.

Like anything else, the church established a rule for the Western rite, which calls for a promise (I’m told, not a vow) of celibacy by diocesan priests. Consecrated priests in religious orders may indeed profess a vow of celibacy (from which they may be released if they leave the order).

In the canon of scripture, Jesus was not married. People say its wrong to argue from silence, but here it is anyway. In that well-known verse in scripture, Jesus talks about those who are his mother and brothers and sisters (I think) He doesn’t talk about who his wife is. Significantly, the Church is described in scripture as being the bride of Christ. That’s the general domain of the conversation we need to have here.

This post #104 does not in anyway contradict what John Paul the great taught, if anything read the entire article, it supports what I have stated. Coach you do not find me in error of my Roman Catholic faith or lack of knowledge thereof, but supporting her, besides any reasonable mind could easily detect that this statement has nothing to do with my knowledge of faith. For one what is being disclosed here are disciplines of the priesthood not faith, or knowledge of faith.

You give me to much credit, for I am not a Priest, and I have no complete knowledge of all the many different priestly ministries the Roman Catholic church has around the world, and what each does in his holy orders and or ministry. This has nothing to do with my knowledge of my faith.

But thank you anyway for revealing this to me. Next time I will give page number and source for the information I need to disclose to you. My comment remains unchanged, the Priest who are called of God, are not required to be celebate in the Catholic church. The Catholic church does not force any one Priest to be celibate, the vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience are taken voluntarily by the Priest being ordained and for those called by God.

coach I will miss you, hope you return, as for me, I too am unable to visit here regularly.

Peace be with you.

You keep saying that Rome does not require priests to be celibate when you know that they do. Are any RC priests running off to be married? (not counting converts). It isnt possible. You are confusing the promise of obedience of the diocesan priest with the vows of the religious, yet the current outcome is the same. That being said, I wish you well as well. God bless, and maybe we will meet here again.

Look, it’s the word “Roman” that is confusing things. The Catholic Church contains 23 rites, all of which follow the Pope. Only one of those rites – the Latin or “Roman” rite – requires celibacy of priests. Plenty of Catholics — Catholics, who follow the Pope — are not Roman Catholics, and their priests marry.

I thought the jury was out on Jesus’ marital status. I know that Catholics think that he probably wasn’t married, but there is no proof either way.

I don’t beleive there has ever been an official opinion given, one way or the other.

Maybe my next comment will help you with what I am trying to state here; You (coach) state that Rome requires a priest to take a vow of chastity, and I state that the vow of chastity is voluntarily given up by each priest individually, they are not forced to take a vow of chastity. That being said, If a man or woman choses to take the vows of chastity, poverty, obedience is done only voluntarily by the individual, this is not forced upon no one by the Catholic church. The individual is free to chose which priesthood or religious life he or she choses, Now their are Holy orders or Priestly orders that live a life of chastity, poverty, and obedience this voluntarily given up not forced upon no one, and there are other priestly and or religious orders that allow married religious or priests. Now these are vows of disciplines in each family of holy orders, not a case of doctrinal faith.

Where we differ in our opinions is what is required and what is volunteered. The Catholic church does not require her priest to take vows of chastity, It is the specific way of lifestyle that each family of Priesthood desires to live a life of Christianity, some of these Priestly orders and Monks and religious chose the way in which to serve God either by the domestic church (Marriage) or by the Marriage of the body of Jesus Christ (celebate). The Catholic church approves both, and does not require any priest to chose a vow of chastity, He or she choses to take these vows of chastity of their own free will.

What I believe that needs to be mentioned here, is that their are Married Priest, and religious that serve the Catholic church. If this were not so, then one could reach a conclusion that vows of chastity are forced upon the Priests, which is a far cry from truth.

Peace be with you

The OP’s last post was on 5-22. It’s now 5-27, 5 days later.

Is this poster a “drive-by”, being provocative and dashing off?

Just curious. A show of actually being involved in things you start would make me feel less like you are just a darter. Best to you.
