Why Islam denies the crucifixion of Christ

As i have already proven Islam plagiarized many Christian texts significantly. forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=361136

But now I will focus on Islam’s denial of the crucifixion. The denial of the crucifixion comes from the incorporation of many Gnostic teachings into the Koran. The Gnostics practiced docetism a concept base on the idea that Christ was god in the spirit and had no true human form. His human form was just an illusion. So when it comes to the crucifixion they believed that Jesus wasn’t crucified but just appeared to be crucified. Gnostics believed that Symon of Cyrene was crucified instead of him whilst Christ being transfigured looked on mocking them.

**The Koran, Surah 4.156-57: **

“And for their saying, **‘Verily we have slain the Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, an Apostle of God.’ Yet they slew him not, and they crucified him not, but they had only his likeness. **And they who differed about him were in doubt concerning him: No sure knowledge had they about him, but followed only an opinion, and they did not really slay him, but God took him up to Himself. And God is Mighty, Wise!”

Muslims have suggested on the basis of this verse that Judas was crucified in Jesus’ stead . This is a very Gnostic idea , that Jesus just appeared to be crucified and proves without a doubt that Islam was influenced by Gnosticism

**The 2nd century Gnostic text, the 2nd treatise of Great Seth **

“Yes, they saw me; they punished me. It was another, their father, who drank the gall and the vinegar; it was not I. They struck me with the reed; it was another, Simon, who bore the cross on his shoulder. I was another upon Whom they placed the crown of thorns. But I was rejoicing in the height over all the wealth of the archons and the offspring of their error, of their empty glory. And I was laughing at their ignorance.”

The 2nd century Gnostic Apocalypse of Peter
(from the Nag Hamadi Library , not to be confused with the other non-Gnostic Apocalypse of Peter)

“when he said those things, I saw him seemingly being seized by them. And I said “What do I see, O Lord, that it is you yourself whom they take, and that you are grasping me? Or who is this one, glad and laughing on the tree? And is it another one whose feet and hands they are striking?"****The Savior said to me, "He whom you saw on the tree, glad and laughing, this is the living Jesus. But thisone into whose hands and feet they drive the nails is his fleshly part, which is the substitute being put to shame, the one who came into being in his likeness. But look at him and me.
But I, when I had looked, said “Lord, no one is looking at you. Let us flee this place.”
But he said to me, "I have told you, “Leave the blind alone!”. And you, see how they do not know what theyare saying. For the son of their glory instead of my servant, they have put to shame."And I saw someone about to approach us resembling him, even him who was laughing on the tree. And he was filled with a Holy Spirit, and he is the Savior. And there was a great, ineffable light around them, and the multitude of ineffable and invisible angels blessing them. And when I looked at him, the one who gives praise was revealed. And he said to me, “Be strong, for you are the one to whom these mysteries have been given, to know themthrough revelation, that he whom they crucified is the first-born, and the home of demons, and the stony vessel,in which they dwell, of Elohim, of the cross, which is under the Law. But he who stands near him is the living Savior, the first in him, whom they seized and released, who stands joyfully looking those who did him violence, while they are divided among themselves. Therefore he laughs at their lack of perception, knowing that they are born blind. So then the one suspectible to suffering shall come, since the body is the substitute. But what they released was my incorporeal body. But I am the intellectual Spirit filled with radiant light. He whom you saw coming to me is our intellectual Pleroma , which unites the perfect light with my Holy Spirit.”

The 2nd century Gnostic text, the Acts of John

**101 Nothing, therefore, of the things which they will say of me have I suffered: nay, that suffering also which I showed unto thee and the rest in the dance, I will that it be called a mystery. For what thou art, thou seest, for I showed it thee; but what I am I alone know, and no man else. Suffer me then to keep that which is mine, and that which is thine behold thou through me, and behold me in truth, that I am, not what I said, but what thou art able to know, because thou art akin thereto. Thou hearest that I suffered, yet did I not suffer; that I suffered not, yet did I suffer; that I was pierced, yet I was not smitten; hanged, and I was not hanged; that blood flowed from me, and it flowed not; and, in a word, what they say of me, that befell me not, but what they say not, that did I suffer. Now what those things are I signify unto thee, for I know that thou wilt understand. Perceive thou therefore in me the praising (al. slaying al. rest) of the (or a) Word (Logos), the piercing of the Word, the blood of the Word, the wound of the Word, the hanging up of the Word, the suffering of the Word, the nailing (fixing) of the Word, the death of the Word. And so speak I, separating off the manhood. Perceive thou therefore in the first place of the Word; then shalt thou perceive the Lord, and in the third place the man, and what he hath suffered. **

102 When he had spoken unto me these things, and others which I know not how to say as he would have me, he was taken up, no one of the multitudes having beheld him. And when I went down I laughed them all to scorn, inasmuch as he had told me the things which they have said concerning him; holding fast this one thing in myself, that the Lord contrived all things symbolically and by a dispensation toward men, for their conversion and salvation.

103 Having therefore beheld, brethren, the grace of the Lord and his kindly affection toward us, let us worship him as those unto whom he hath shown mercy, not with our fingers, nor our mouth, nor our tongue, nor with any part whatsoever of our body, but with the disposition of our soul -even him who became a man apart from this body: and let us watch because (or we shall find that) now also he keepeth ward over prisons for our sake, and over tombs, in bonds and dungeons, in reproaches and insults, by sea and on dry land, in scourgings, condemnations, conspiracies, frauds, punishments, and in a word, he is with all of us, and himself suffereth with us when we suffer, brethren. When he is called upon by each one of us, he endureth not to shut his ears to us, but as being everywhere he hearkeneth to all of us; and now both to me and to Drusiana, -forasmuch as he is the God of them that are shut upbringing us help by his own compassion.

104 Be ye also persuaded, therefore, beloved, that it is not a man whom I preach unto you to worship, but God unchangeable, God invincible, God higher than all authority and all power, and elder and mightier than all angels and creatures that are named, and all aeons. If then ye abide in him, and are builded up in him, ye shall possess your soul indestructible. “

The Gnostic teacher Basilides was one of the first to preach this doctrine about the crucifixion. Iraneus in his work against the heresies wrote about Basilides’ doctrines:

“in** his stead; so that this latter being transfigured by him, that he might be thought to be Jesus, was crucified, through ignorance and error, while Jesus himself received the form of Simon, and, standing by, laughed at them**. For since he was an incorporeal power, and the Nous (mind) of the unborn father, he transfigured himself as he pleased, and thus ascended to him who had sent him, deriding them, inasmuch as he could not be laid hold of, and was invisible to all…… If any one, therefore, he declares, confesses the crucified, that man is still a slave, and under the power of those who formed our bodies; but he who denies him has been freed from these beings, and is acquainted with the dispensation of the unborn father.”

It is clear that Islam’s denial of the crucifixion of Christ comes from straight Gnosticism which Mohammad was influenced by as well as various other heretical forms of Christianity such as Nestorianism. If Muslims accept this is the origin of the Koran’s denial of the crucifixion and say the Gnostics got it from Allah then they also have to accept every other single Gnostic doctrine as coming from Allah such as Christ nature as a divine spirit, Mary being in the trinity, their beliefs about the goddess Sophia, dualism, docetism etc. But as no Muslim would be prepared to I think. I have proven the Koran’s plagiarized origins once again

The main reason why Mahometanism denies the crucifixion is simple.

That way, they don’t have to deal with the Resurrection.

A dead man requires only that he be buried.

A man who rises from the dead by His own power is in a position to make non-negotiable demands.

I’ve always felt the same exact way as the OP, that Islam borrowed greatly from gnosticism. I think the Jehova’s Witnesses do as well to some degree. Gnosticism is alive and well living and breathing through these other groups.

Muhammad had so much interaction with Christians and Jews on his caravan voyages with his wife, a trader. He no doubt heard bits and pieces, kernels of truth, and robust lies and merged them together into his ‘religion.’

Don’t forget that Mahomet was a pedophile deceived by an inferior demon, too.

Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist–he denies the Father and the Son. 1 John 2:22

Nope you deny Christ, you deny his divinity and crucifixion so id say it does apply to you. Its funny the texts that were the basis for the Koran’s denial of the crucifixion attest that it happened because Jesus was god and god couldn’t be crucified, Do you accept these Gnostic doctrines as well? I only just posed about this sinceyour fellow muclim Christos brought it up. Islam’s denial of the crucifixion is undeniably Gnostic.

I accept him as Christ (as defined by Jewish ) which DOES not include his divinity…

also, you add too much words on the verse quoted,

If you dot accept his divinity and that he was crucified you don’t accept Christ. Please give me a comment on this Gnostic teaching in your Koran. I have proven that islam was influenced by Gnosticism and this the reason the Koran says Jesus wasn’t crucified. Because it incorporated Gnostic docetism. added to many words on what?

Ach…this is laughable…who quoted who? Muhammad quoted from the Gnostic and now u pointing that the Gnostic is the quoted version that had added too much words that didn’t fit Koran? …fallacy!

Romans 10:8-10

8But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,”[a] that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

Why Islam denies the crucifixion of Christ
If it was up to that only, then I think Islam would be somehow acceptable, but the problem that most teachings contradict those in Christianity in addition to degrading Jesus to the lowest prophet. :dts:

Dear Deus Vult,

This is some very powerful stuff. Do you believe that Muhammed was responsible for these writings in the Koran or was it altered and added to, as Islam claims the NT was.

Muhammed was illiterate, wasn’t he? His words were given to, I believe, his uncle and his wife. Memorized for about 50-years by his followers and then written down and named the Koran. Who actually put it down on paper? You have woke me up inside about many things. They believe in the Gnoptic version of Jesus’ life versus the way it was past down to us. This is, at the least, very upsetting. I’ve read most of your other posts on the Koran, all unsettling to me.

You would think that the followers of the God of Abraham (outside of us Christians), specifically the Jewish and Islamic faiths, would agree, but they split at the mount with Isaac versus Ismael being sacrificed. I read somewhere that the Jews would threaten the Arabs with the belief that the Jews’ Messiah, not accepting Jesus, would eventually come and destroy the anti-Jewish factions, which included the Arabs. The Arabs believed that when they received Muhammed that he was the prophet the Jews were looking for but God sent him to the Arabs instead. And, that th Jews refused the prophet they were sent being Jesus, who fell terribly short of completing his earthly mission from God.

Please help me with this. As I said earlier, this is all very unsettling to me. It seems that all faiths, including the Christian denominations, figure out a way to nullify the Catholic Church, who doesn’t try to nullify anyone aymore, just states her position and stands by it to the end.

May God guide all of us to the one truth.

Hi J paul

I think that during Mohammad’s 40 years before his alleged prophethood he encountered many Christian teachings many of which were heretical. I think the source for much of this lies with Waraqah a Nestorian priest who was close to Mohammad and related to him through marriage. I think he influenced Mohammad with these heretical ideas. Nestorians believe that Jesus had 2 natures 1 human and divine and that Jesus wasn’t really crucified because he was god so just his human form was killed whilst his divine spirit watched on. Pretty much just like the Gnostics. I don’t think these things were added later but a result of many religious influences synthesized by the in the Koran. Mohammad is said to have been illiterate but we don’t really know since only Muslim sources talk of this in an effort to make their holy book appear divine. I think Mohammad would have encountered all these things orally, stories, myths and legends played a big role in pre-Islamic Arabia. There were scraps written down on bones and scraps of paper but one unified codex of the Koran was not formulated till under Caliph uthman who lived some 20 years after Mohammad had died.

Mohammad tried to be a prophet to the Jews , he tried to get them onboard initially talking about the Jews favorably in his Koran and praying towards Jerusalem. But when it was clear that the Jews would not accept his religion he became more hostile to the Jews , saying they killed the prophets (which is actually a saying of Jesus and since Muslims don’t believe he was killed im curious as to which prophets they killed) and he changed the direction of prayer to mecca. He became further hostile towards the Jews massacring some 900 of them and claiming that they all must die before the day of judgment will come.

Why has this unsettled you so much? I think Islam is a Christian heresy. It twisted the truth and produced nothing but lies. The fact that it contains these Gnostic abominations reveal that the author of the Koran wasn’t god. For if we are to accept this account of the crucifixion to be from god then we must accept all Gnostic doctrine to be true as well.

Muslims think Muhammad brought a “revelation” from Allah. Should they analyse this “revelation” believed by Gnostics before, they’d believe in Jesus’ crucifixion but the islamic sheikh sdon’t want to stain the “divine revelation” so they feed the sheep with lies and misleading interpretations, sometimes saying “someone else was crucified”, or “there was no crucifixion at all”, or “don’t ask this question”, or “your salvation does not depend on this answer”.

Islam may have been such, as you say, many years ago. But today it is more a political
philosophy disguised as a religious theocratic organization. Actions and conditions in Iran, Iraq, Libya, and many other Arabic countries prove my assertion.
