Here is generally, what my advice is to children; obey your parents, unless they are asking you to commit a crime and, or to do something that will hurt you or someone else, or if you are the victim of a crime and they are telling to you not to report that crime.

Generally, it is not good keeping secrets from your parents, they are responsible for your well-being and they cannot protect you, if they do not know what’s going on with you, or what you are doing and who you are talking to. …

Do not talk with to or correspond on the internet with adults, or any strangers, or provide any personal information over the internet.

If an adult “wants to be your friend”, you need to tell your parents immediately, it is not normal for an adult to have children (who are not their own) as their "friend”.

Parents are not allowed to knowingly turn their kids into criminals, or to knowingly victimize or allow others to victimize their children, or to abuse or neglect their own children.

Parents are allowed to tell their children, not to attend another Church, which is not their own.

We cannot choose our parents.

Now, in this context, CAF, Baptists are Christians too, and I am sure that there will be plenty of Baptists in heaven.

All persons who are at the age where they know right from wrong, are responsible for their own sins, just as they are, responsible for any crimes that they might commit.

Praying the Rosary is not a requirement, in order to go to heaven, it is not even a Catholic “requirement” and Rosary beads are not necessary to pray.

The forth Commandment does make it clear though, that we are to honor our mother and father.

lol I know, I have rarely dis-obeyed them. She only said “we’re not catholic” she did not say anything about not making one though, or really, even buying one, I am gonna talk to her tommrorrow.

Well, obviously the highly repetitive nature of the prayers, most of them addressed to Mary as intercessor, are going to be a problem for most Protestants.

That’s a big leap for many of these people.

I suggest to anyone unfamiliar with the traditional ancient Christian prayer practices (who may be curious at all) just take the rosary, and change it, any way you like.

Pray whatever you so choose on it. Pray directly to God on it.

Use any ancient text of prayer, like the Our Father perhaps, and pray as little or as much as you like. There are canticles and hymns throughout the Bible that would be nice. There are the ten Commandments to meditate upon. There is Saint Paul’s famous Canon on Love which would be perfect for every tenth prayer…

Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not want what belongs to others. It does not brag. It is not proud. It is not rude. It does not look out for its own interests. It does not easily become angry. It does not keep track of other people’s wrongs.

Love is not happy with evil. But it is full of joy when the truth is spoken. It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up. Love never fails. Amen

If one is interested in the meditation, do free-form meditations on whatever aspect of God that is important to you at this moment.

The Chaplet of Saint Patrick (very old, but probably not from the Saint) is a simple Apostles Creed on one bead, and twelve recitations of the “Glory Be” doxology.

Glory Be, to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit…

The Jesus Prayer goes thus:
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me the sinner…

What is important here is that these are very ancient Christian prayer methods. They are not foreign to the Faith at all. There are a lot of possibilities for prayer that could helpful for an individual to grow in the grace of God and yet be unintimidating to any Christian.

I pray the Holy Rosary in the same exact way that Catholics do. I have no qualms with it at all. I actually have a Marian rosary and a St. Michael Chaplet rosary. I also have a booklet with colored pictures of the events in each mystery, a guide that details what mysteries to pray on what days, etc. I bought it my local Catholic bookstore.

I don’t use my rosary any other way that what is prescribed from Catholic sources. I don’t edit out the “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death” that many protestants do.

I honor the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of our Lord Jesus. I have no problem with Mariology. I ask for her to pray for me and be with me often. And she is. I have stripped myself of the prison that many people put God in to satisfy their theological egos.

My question is what is the importance of praying the Rosary?

I am not for nor agaisnt it. If someone wants to pray it and it helps them grow closer to Christ then do it.

Personally I get up each morning and read my Bible and spend time in prayer. Then as I drive into work I continue my prayer time. That is what I do. But I do not ask why more people don’t get up at sunrise and pray as I do. Each must find what works best for them to have their time with God via the Holy Spirit.

The problem with using these passages is that in context they are not teaching about prayer to those who have died.

That is not a concern for Catholics, ja4, since the practice was in place from the beginning, and pre-dates the writing of the NT. Since our Teachings come from Jesus through the Apostles, we are not dependent on the incomplete reflection of them in the HOly Scripture as you are.

Furthermore, the scriptures do not “teach” themselves. They are recordings of our faith, and bear tesitmony to the Truth, who is Jesus, our Teacher. They were never meant to be separated from the Holy Tradition from which they were produced. The reformers, in separating them from their Source started a falling away from the Apostolic faith that has exponentiated with modern media. Each generation that privately interprets in isolation from the Source goes further and further away from the Apostolic faith. Now we have “Christians” that believe baptism has nothing to do with water, and that think that the communion of saints do not exist, and that our prayers for those who have gone on before us in the faith are worthless.

guanophore I am only going to say this because I have gotten this many times from others. But doesn’t the fact that Christ came and initiated a New Covenant mean he did away with the OLD. So the practices of that predate the New Everlasting Covenant are not essential any longer?

Curious about what your take is on that. I have gotten that response by both Catholics and Protestants.

I’ve mentioned in the threads more than once that I’m Anglican and that I pray the Rosary. it’s NOT the Anglican Rosary, it’s the good old standard Dominican Rosary and I pray the traditional Mysteries plus the newer Luminous Mysteries. I pray the traditional prayers including the Fatima prayer and the St. Michael prayer. Why? Because there are many hundred years of tradition and practice here, first of all. Secondly, because I have a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother, I want to honour her - AND meditate on Our Lord’s life, ministry, and death - in the same way that it’s been done for those many years. If someone wants to pick up a 33-bead Rosary and say the prayers in a different way, that’s his or her decision. I just would not want to do it like that.

So there it is and thanks for letting me put in my two leptons’ worth!

What you do with the Rosary is beautiful. I pray the Rosary on my fingers when I go for my morning runs and so many beautiful thoughts come to me when I do this. Many mornings on my Rosary Runs I find that I open to the suffering in the world that just overwhelms me and I find that I am running harder and my breathing has turned into groans of compassion and pleas to God to help all those who are suffering, especially women with their children in the womb and outside the womb. Then prayer turns towards those males who create the death in the world that harm women and make it dangerous to have children so that these males will have a conversion to love instead of hate.
I love praying the Rosary.

All of these Ideas about praying to Mary are closely connected with the instrument called the rosary. It consist of a chain with fifteen sets of small beads, each set marked a large bead. The ends of this chain are joined by a medal bearing the imprint of Mary. From this hangs a short chain at the end of which is a crucifix. The beads on the rosary are for counting prayers-prayers that are repeated over and over. Though this instrument is widely used within the Roman Catholic Churches, it is clearly not of Christian origin. It has been known in many countries.

“All with one voice about the space of two hours cried out Great is Diana of Ephesians” (Acts 19:34). Jesus Spoke of repetitious prayer as being a practice of the heathen. “When ye pray,” He said “use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do; for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them, for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask Him”.( Mathew 6:7-13). In this passage, Jesus plainly told his followers NOT to pray a little prayer over and over. It is significant to notice that it was right after giving this warning, in the very next verse, that He said, “After this manner therefore pray ye, Our Father which art in heaven …” and gave the disciples what we refer to as “The Lord’s Prayer”. Jesus gave this prayer as an opposite to the heathen type of prayer. Yet Roman Catholics are taught to pray this prayer over and over, If this prayer was not to be repeated over and over, how much less a little man-made prayer to Mary!
It seems to us that memorizing prayers, than repeating them over and over while counting rosary beads, could easily become more of a “memory test” than spontaneous expression of prayer from the heart.

I am amazed that you think you know what we believe and what we worship! If it were not for the Catholic Church you would not have the Bible. The scriptures emerged from Tradition (with a capital T). In the early days there were no printing presses and the good news was passed down by the Apostles who spread the teachings of Jesus throughout the world.

If you look at the Hail Mary you will see that the first part comes from Luke and in the 2nd part we ask Mary to pray for us. As we pray the Rosary we meditate the Life of Jesus - we medidate the gospels.

So dear one please do not judge (Jesus tells us not to judge). Instead you must do some research and look at the history of the Church. I hope one day you will see the truth and when you do you will see how awsome it is.

That’s your first error. There are other threads that are current which show that non-Catholics (such as myself) also pray the rosary.

Not much of a church historian are you? The Bible is not Christianity. The Bible is the guide that we use to know and understand God.

When we call our selves Christian, we must follow the teaching of the Word of GOD (Bible).

This comes close to Bible worship. I know - I used to do that.
Following the teachings of the Bible only lead us to Christ - which is the whole point of Christianity. The Bible is not the end. It is the means to the end.

The Catholic Encyclopedia says, “There is little or no trace of the Hail Mary as an accepted devotional formula before about 1050”. The complete rosary involves repeating the Hail Mary 53 times, the Lords Prayer 6 times, 5Mysteries, 5 Meditations on the Mysteries, 5 Glory Be’s and Apostles Creed.

Brother, you could’ve just provided the link. The fact that rosaries are used throughout religions and cultures shows the universality of the principle behind it, not that they are all evil.

Notice that the prayer to Mary, the Hail Mary, is repeated almost 9times as often as the Lords Prayer!

Again, use proper Bible exegesis. It was a mob, not a religious devotion. Read the rest of the passages surrounding this quote and you can see that. Don’t cherry-pick.

Jesus Spoke of repetitious prayer as being a practice of the heathen. “When ye pray,” He said “use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do; for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them, for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask Him”.( Mathew 6:7-13).

It looks like I keep repeating myself. What is the Scripture saying here? The repetition that Jesus speaks of here is the repetitiveness of asking the Lord for the same thing over and over again thinking that He will hear you because you say it a thousand times. Example: “Please Lord, make her love me” Repeat thousand times. The caveat is the last sentence, that is, “He knows what you need before you ask Him”

In this passage, Jesus plainly told his followers NOT to pray a little prayer over and over. It is significant to notice that it was right after giving this warning, in the very next verse, that He said, “After this manner therefore pray ye, Our Father which art in heaven …” and gave the disciples what we refer to as “The Lord’s Prayer”. Jesus gave this prayer as an opposite to the heathen type of prayer.

Again, you didn’t study the passage with open eyes. Read above.

Yet Roman Catholics are taught to pray this prayer over and over, If this prayer was not to be repeated over and over, how much less a little man-made prayer to Mary!

Praying the rosary is not mandatory and does not save one’s soul and is not mean for that. It’s a spiritual and devotional practice to bring one closer to God.

It seems to us that memorizing prayers, than repeating them over and over while counting rosary beads, could easily become more of a “memory test” than spontaneous expression of prayer from the heart.

Words are powerful. And you don’t understand the rosary. The mysteries are to be contemplated as one recites the rosary. It’s not mindless babbling.

Jesus Christ is The True and Living God.
Jesus said I am The Way, The Truth and the Life. Jesus Christ is the only mediator.
Believe in Jesus Christ and be Saved.

I tend to agree it appears to have been a cut and paste job from an obviously heavily anti-catholic source.
I hope in all sincerity that alex will stick around, begin posting his own thoughts and asking real questions.

Of course his post does proove one thing. Many non-caths don’t pray the rosary simply because they have no clue what it is or what it is about.

Some may not pray the rosary simply because they do not feel the need too. It is not a sacrament. It is a tool in order to grow closer to God. If you want to use that tool you can, if you choose not to use that tool you do not have to. It’s a personal preference.

Thanks brother.

I hope he does too. I want to see what response I get from my objections and maybe he can see that it is a wonderful practice that does not in any way detract from our relationship and worship of Jesus Christ.

I can tell you that I fell in love with the rosary once I encountered it (just a few short years ago). And I have this wonderful little booklet called “Pray the Rosary”. It has pictures of all the mysteries, how to pray the rosary (of course) and it’s just beautiful.

The great thing about the rosary for me is that those mysteries are a daily reminder, both visually and mentally, of the Christian faith. It’s all in there! For me it doesn’t detract from anything, but enhances my calling as a Christian believer.

And I get such a sense of peace when I pray the rosary. I admit that I don’t do it regularly like I want to. I tend to pray it as I’m going to sleep. I fall asleep with these prayers on my lips and in my mind and I rest peacefully every single time.
