Why would anyone want to be a Mormon or Jehovah Witnesses?

The problem I have with those quotes is that they sell Mormonism short. What the Lord himself has said about the state of exaltation is far more impressive than creating planets ruling over them. This is what the Lord has revealed in his own words:

snip…

I like to teach true doctrine in God’s own words, rather than rephrase them in my own, which is what these quotes are trying to do.
Why on earth do you think that any of us who are Christian would accept these as the Lord’s words. The D&C is not the Bible, it is a made up book by your leader. These are not visions nor are they true words.

Since I in no way acknowledge Mormonism as a true Christian religion, why would you think that quoting from that book would in any way ring true to me or any other non-Mormon?

Especially when he has problems himself with the words of his church leaders, if he doesn’t think much of his “prophets” words why would he think we would hold them in any regard?

and he dodges not only me, but his own prophets…

go figure

I am here to explain to people what Mormonism actually teaches on its own terms; and to counter the misrepresentation of it that you guys like to present. I couldn’t care less whether you believe in any of it or not.

By the way, here are some additional relevant verses from D&C 76 which I had omitted to quote in my previous post:

“And thus we saw the glory of the celestial, which excels in all things—where God, even the Father, reigns upon his throne forever and ever;
“Before whose throne all things bow in humble reverence, and give him glory forever and ever.
“They who dwell in his presence are the church of the Firstborn; and they see as they are seen, and know as they are known, having received of his fulness and of his grace;
“And he makes them equal in power, and in might, and in dominion.
“And the glory of the celestial is one, even as the glory of the sun is one.” (D&C 76:92–96)

I hope you are impressed!

why should we believe what your leaders teach when YOU do not believe what your leaders teach?

Because you have no other choice! 😃

And I do believe what they teach. I just think that I can do a better job of it than they can! I am kind of smart! 🙂

How do you know abou Zerinus?

Were you here under a different name before?
No. I was thinking about how he posts (his style seemed very familiar but I couldn’t place it), and it clicked. Mathonihah and Zerinus both posted at Mormon Dialogue and Discussion Board, both were banned, and others also thought they were the same person as well (google there names together).

Gotcha.

He does post alot like Z, but as I remember, Z was a little more condescending when he was here. Maybe time has mellowed him?

ETA: I searched as you suggested, and I have to agree. Welcome back Zerinus! Do the mods know you’re back?

Isn’t D&C 132 the one about Polygamy?

Not really a good reference.

Actually, the D&C is not a good reference for much since it obviously biased.

Another reason it can’t be doctrine is because it is false, and part of what you claim to be a “restoration”. Which, as we have discussed, there is/was no need for a “restoration”, because, A) Christ didn’t lie. B) Christ didn’t leave his Church C) The Gates of Hell have not prevailed against his Church (Catholic)

Good try though.
Yes, D&C 132…just when you think it can’t get any worse.

These are not God’s words, they are from the imagination of a man. Ditch the false scriptures and focus on the Word of God.

So what you are telling us here with your problem with your leaders not using God’s own words, is that THE prophet/seer/revelator, the men “called to be the mouthpiece of God on earth” don’t really speak God’s word. Thanks for the clarification, while I knew your prophets didn’t speak for God it is heartening to know that you realize it too.

So, you’re previous denial wasn’t truthful?
It was absolutely truthful. I have never been it taught in church “that I would have my own planet.”
Worshipping God, for one, beyond that, no one knows. We do know that we are not Gods. To believe that you will be a god, with planets and your offspring worshipping you is not silly, it is blasphemous. There is ONE God, and you buddy, aren’t God.
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” (Gen. 1;26)

So, why is it blaphemy to believe we can become like God?

“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” (1 John 3:2)

How odd, you seemed to have looked up his posts over at MDDB (I post over there, so I’m familiar with both of you, and remembered that you were both banned over there) a few months ago, now you don’t know?

:rotfl:

Sorry to derail, but I was highly amused when it all clicked. Carry on.
I know I was at MDB, and I know I was banned, and I know I was accused (by one poster, perhaps you) of being “zerinus," whatever that is. Is there anything else you would like to addd to that?
