Why would you NOT want to be Anglican?

That’s like saying that alligators have large teeth but don’t mean to chew up people’s pets and eat them. If the Roman Catholic church was and is “the” church, then these horrible acts of abuse would have never happened. The gates of hell would not prevail against it. Truth is, it is just as vulnerable as any other denomination because it is just that; a denomination. It is merely one piece of the puzzle.
Actually, it’s more like saying, wild animals sometimes get into the zoo, but they aren’t actually part of the exhibit - and the zoo keeper is doing his best to relocate them to their natural habitat.

Do you have any evidence for this accusation? In any case, nobody thinks that the Pope “founded” the Catholic Church - it was founded by Christ.

It has sinners in it, but it was not originally established upon the excusing of sin.

You just don’t get it, do you? No you don’t.

The Catholic Church is “thee” Church. And the gates of hell have not prevailed and they never will. The Church is still here after 2,000 years and she will be here until the end of time.

The Catholic Church is not a “denomination” either. Look up the word “denomination.” The Catholic Church is the first and only whole and complete Church. A “whole” cannot be a denomination. The Catholic Church cannot be just “one peice of the puzzle” either. Even if other “churches” unite with the Catholic Church it cannot be “more whole” because the Church is already a whole and fully complete Church. We have everything we need for survival. But that doesn’t mean that Jesus will not welcome more members. And that is why I am going to pray for your complete recovery and return to the Catholic Church. Jesus is waiting for you.

Henry was actively considering advancing Henry Fitzroy as his heir, in spite of the small impediment of illegitimacy. His creation as Duke of Richmond and Earl Somerset (even the titles have royal connotations), when he was declared the ranking peer of the realm, save only any sons born after from Henry, was a clue to what the King was thinking. He couldn’t change Mary’s sex; maybe he could perfume Fitzroy, shop him around, as Mary had been, and secure a suitable royal match, then declare him the heir. Would probably have worked, in a stronger, more established dynasty.

Later he got what he considered a better idea. And certainly he had no reason to suspect his petition for a decree of nullity (not a divorce) would run into what it did. What he sought was granted literally all the time. Smacking into the Holy Roman Emperor was not so common.

And Henry’s marriage to Katherine was permitted by a dispensation (not annulment), the nature of which became the point of Henry’s *causa *

Sorry about the loose use of “annulment”.

I pray that the Anglican Church will convert en-mass to Catholicism. Who knows, there might even be an Anglican Rite developed. I admit the high Church Anglican liturgy is one of the most beautiful services in existence. But the problem is that of leadership; there is very little. Satan has established his beachhead and he’s not retreating. The only hope for Anglicanism is in the shelter of the Catholic Church.
There is already an Anglican Use Rite which has been developed by the Catholic Church to cater for the large numbers of Anglican/Episcopalian converts - used, for example, in Our Lady of the Atonement parish in San Antonio.

But with the exception of the trophy parishes in Texas (where most of teh AU parishes are), the AU is not intended to in any sense a permanent arrangement. There is no provision for providing follow-on priests, for example, when the convert priest is no longer serving. It does happen, but it is the excpetion.

The AU ( which is not a Rite) is intended to be a temporary expedient, to assist a given Anglican parish in converting, an event that is not a daily occurence. AFAIK, there have likely been less than 2 dozen AU parishes since the provision was established, one of them in my home town. That one, a sort of sister parish to my own Continuing Anglican parish, became NO, in time, as is the usual process, was the home of the TLM indult Mass locally for while, and does use the TLM , now. But it’s no longer AU, and that is the routine. The AU is not favorably viewed by most of the hierarchy.

Hank and his marital issues are a hobby of mine. I get to post on the subject regularly.

if you prove to me that your church is the church that Jesus talked about in the Bible than i will come aboard.

Most enlightening 👍 It appears the AU itself can be used in other parishes with the permission of the local Bishop, but as you said there are few AU parishes as such.

It does surprise me that AU parishes only exist in the US - I’d’a thunk there’d be at least a couple in the UK as well 🤷 Perhaps UK Anglican converts aren’t as attached to their former liturgy, or go for a different rite or Use if they are …

I was raised Baptist. My wife is a cradle catholic, but largley non-practicing. We were considering becoming episcopal. My wife wasn’t happy with catholicsm, but couldn’t get over the differences in the liturgy from catholicsm.

As for my part, based on the consecration of Gene Robinson, and my perception of the tolerance of same sex marriage blessings, I concluding that Episcopal Church was not really doing the Lord’s will. If you will tolerate that kind of clearly unrepentant sin in such a high position, where does it stop.

The contrast with catholicism ended up being one factor (in many) that led to my coversion to catholicism.

The other big factor in not becoming Episcopal, was my perception that the foundation of the Church of England, and by extention the Episcopal Church, was based soley on political reasons. At least with Luther it was based on what he believed was true. I reasoned that a church founded for political expediency can’t be what the Lord wants.

Far from it. The RC hierarchy in the Isles directly and firmly refused to go along with the AU route; it doesn’t exist there. As with the background of the Apostolicae Curae affair, the RCs in Great Britain have long memories. There is no desire to permit any sort of perpetuation of the Anglican idenity there, among the converts. Think of it as the Recusants’ Revenge.

The perturbations in the CoE caused a fair sized exodus toward Rome, in the past few decades. An AU in place there would have likely have increased the flow. It was not to be.

The Catholic Church in common everyday language is considered a denomination of the Christian faith, just like Baptist, Lutheran, and so on. It is the largest by far, but still considered a denomination. It’s nothing to be ashamed of, so don’t make it a big deal.

It is a big deal, my friend!

If any mortal person can put up a “denomination”, why can’t Jesus?

But Jesus didn’t put up a “denomination”. He put up a “Church”! And that Church is the One, Holy, Apostolic, and Catholic Church. So if you believe other persons can put up a church, why can’t you believe that Jesus put up His own Church?

Come home, my friend…

…What do a few thousand ex-Anglicans-turned-RC count for compared with the tens of millions of US English-speaking Catholics,or the hundreds of millions of Catholics in the RR ? … Sorry to be so gloomy, but one cannot afford to be unrealistic.
I was thinking more of a world wide mass conversion of Anglicans, on the the order of maybe 40 or 50 million. (There are about 70 million Anglicans.) Anglicans from outside of the UK have less “political” attachment to the C of E than those in the UK. There are a few Bishops in the Anglican communion who have enough influence outside of Canterbury to maybe, pull it off. But it is probably only a dream.

Great post, though, I learned a few things.

As above, just wanted to know why not?

It’s not that I don’t want to be Anglican, Baptist, Muslim, Jewish, or Methodist. Or any other religion.

Being Catholic is a positive choice, meaning that I choose it, not because I don’t like other religions, but because Catholicism is the Church that Christ founded.

This choice isn’t negative, in the sense that I’ve chosen it because it’s the best of what’s out there, as if I pick Catholicism after comparing it to the other Xian churches. IMO, it’s the only religion I could choose. It’s not a matter of excluding all other choices. This is Christ’s Church, so how could I not choose it? There are 5,000 other choices, and that only covers Christian churches. But it makes no difference. There could be one other choice or 50 billion. There would still be only one Church founded by Christ.

IMO, I can choose the Church that Christ founded, the Catholic Church. Or I could choose not to. I have the free will to accept the Church that Christ gave us, or not to accept it. My choice has nothing at all to do with other Christian denominations.

I am home, but I’m also realistic. Christ established Christianity which after some initial turmoil evolved into the Catholic Church, which unfortunately split several times into the mess we have today. IMO, being a follower of Christ is the key here, whether you are Protestant or Catholic.

I am home, too. While I very seriously explored Catholicism and Anglicanism, I had to do so long after a was ordained a United Methodist. Neither church was represented in the area I grew up - a small college town.

Sorry but you’re wrong. Well I’m not sorry. But the Catholic Church is NOT a denomination. And it is a BIG DEAL, to me anyway. It should be to you and to everyone who is Catholic or wants to be Catholic. Jesus came to establish His Church and that He did. And I’m glad I’m part of that Church.

The word “catholic” alone means “on the WHOLE” For the WHOLE world. It is not just PART of something. The Church is COMPLETE in and of itself. So it is IMPOSSIBLE for it to be a denomination.

okay, I’m done. 😊 Peace. 😃
