I am Catholic; I don’t believe in divorce.Really? There is alternative medical help for those who snore. Most people who suffer with snoring are diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. Hardly grounds for divorce or murder.

I snore and use a assisted breathing machine called a CPAP.
Oh and when I used to snore I could bring down the walls and lift the roof off the house.
I bolded the key part. The hypothetical extra piece of fruit isn’t what’s gluttonous, it’s the fact that we as a society make excuses for consuming more energy than we expend. I get that metabolisms slow down, and are already slow for some naturally. But even so, if your body only burns 1800 calories a day, why are you constantly consuming 1980? You don’t need it, and in the long run you know it’s bad for you.
Well said.Your body is a gift from God. If you don’t treat it right, it IS a sin.
The OP explicitly states that his wife is almost twice her former weight of 120 lbs. This means she is likely morbidly obese, putting her health and life at risk. He further explicitly states that she isn’t committed to losing this weight, and that her lack of self-control is a major problem here, as well as in her other affairs. I don’t understand why posters keep missing or glossing over this.
unrepentent?
poor choice of words,
she is not sinning so is not in need of repentence
I can tell you from long experience that the more you nag her about her weight, health and living habits the less likely she is to respond positively and you are setting up an extremely unhealthy, unproductive and damaging manner of communicating your concerns and your tactics will almost surely destroy your marriage if you continue this way.
Notice I am not contesting any of your objective observations about her health and habits, I am contesting the manner in which you have “communicated” your concerns.
So because she has control over her weight, something I might argue against, you would kill her? I know you are joking and that you would never kill someone for simply snoring, but to even state this in public is a problem. Killing someone is no joking matter.I am Catholic; I don’t believe in divorce.
There is a strong link between obesity and sleep apnea. So in my book that is a risk factor you have control over.
If my wife started snoring because of her weight I would give her two choices.
or
- you diet and exercise with me.
2.** I kill you in your sleep.**
He has been far more patient than I would be with a snoring spouse.

I agree with you for most people. However there are numerous contributing factors that also give reason to rising Obesity that is not always the persons fault. Mental Health along with depression is a valid medical reason. Been there so I know.
Almost every year or two I reminded in some priest’s homily who’s having a bad hair day and finds fancy of picking on obese people in the congregation in his topic.
Nice to point out the obvious splinter in someone else’s fault and not see the log in your own. Its forgivable.
I certainly don’t like having a few extra pounds on and having to deal with pancreatic cancer in remission. Not every human being was made the same way mentally or physically. There are many unseen contributing factors too many to mention that are attributed to obesity hidden in the genes cells of many human beings. IMHO Mental Health plays a big part in people being obese.
Everybody thinks they have the ultimate cure to obesity which is a disease.
First, I’d like to key in on how you don’t feel watned as a husband. Well, how does SHE feel? Do you express the fact to her that you want HER as a wife, despite her weight gain? You did marry “for better or for worse, insickness and in health”, correct? She has tried dieting and exercise, but has never fully committed to managing her weight, and has never succeeded, but not for lack of support…
We have talked consistently about he weight and health, and have made many “new starts,” all of which have produced no improvement…
I don’t feel wanted as a husband, and have begun to feel like I represent little more than a steady paycheck to her. In addition, I am feeling like the only adult in this marriage, as her lack of self control has spilled over into money management and a reluctance to discipline our children.
I have talked to a marriage counselor and he recommended a “Healing Separation” to ease the strain on our marriage and attempt to generate a positive change. I’m leaning toward this as it seems a reasonable step for us.
Agree with this as well.Have you suggested the 2 of you go for walks TOGETHER? Ride bikes TOGETHER? Go to the Y TOGETHER? Cook healthy meals TOGETHER?
Make this a team effort, and show her you are her partner in this. You vowed to love her in sickness and in health, and this is one of those sickness moments. So SHOW HER how much you love her by working WITH her, not just deriding her, embarrasing her, and humiliating her.
I am quite sure you are not the same guy physically that you were 20+ years ago either.![]()

And definitely, not by just a husband. This is a lovely plan.
But before anyone who has been sedentary and/or who is overweight begins any kind of physical activity, they should be thoroughly checked out by a doctor, a real doctor, not just a trainer.
This is what she hears from you. I guarantee it. It’s all about how YOU feel, and how SHE has failed. I find it qutie interesting that you mention a separation, but don’t mention medical care for her.was 120 lbs.
her weight
obese
snoring
have not slept in the same bed for five years
never fully committed to managing her weight
never succeeded
no improvement
her lack of self control
separation
:clapping::clapping::yup:This is what she hears from you. I guarantee it. It’s all about how YOU feel, and how SHE has failed. I find it qutie interesting that you mention a separation, but don’t mention medical care for her.
She is quite possibly overwhelmed by her weight and depressed by your rejection. She needs medical help, and perhaps counselling; but even more, she needs support, not judgment.
Ok, I will be a radical voice here.I guess I’m just stunned by this thread. Your wife has given you four kids, and now you have the audacity to complain about her weight? Well, guess what-in 20 years, people put on weight. After four kids, your wife has the right not to be a size 4. Your not perfect either.
To even THINK about a seperation over this is incredibly shallow.
