I’m a non believer in god and I would say that I am a pretty good person. I wonder though if god would send me to hell even though I’m a good guy?

God’s idea of a “good guy” might be very different from yours.

Most non-believers nowadays get many of their values from the media, even if they’re not aware of it. TV shows dish out hour after hour of plots where, for example, unmarried people cohabitate without any thought of it being immoral. When you’ve grown up being fed a daily dose of this programming you end up using it to establish your own moral benchmarks. But things like cohabitation, same-sex relationships and abortion are extremely grave sins in God’s eyes, despite what modern society may say.

So a person might think that because he doesn’t do illegal things like rob banks or sell drugs, he’s basically a “good person.” From God’s point of view, however, he may have very grave sins piled sky high.

Ultimately, people go to hell because they don’t repent of their sins. But without faith how will you even begin to understand the condition of your soul and see your need to seek God’s mercy?

If you want to see life then seek Christ. It’s as simple as that. As for hell, it is done away with as stated in Rev 20:14

God is good and always believes in us even when we don’t believe in Him. Otherwise there would never be any conversions. And that conversion even included our first pope St. Peter. After all, St. Peter denied Jesus 3 times…poor St. Peter…eh? Not a great start for our first pope.

As for hell, well, good guys/gals don’t get to go there. But wouldn’t it be better if you got a taste of Heaven now? The hope that this brings is like drinking water in a dessert.

Your belief in the existence of hell or at least its possibility might be telling you that you are already hearing the gentle voice of God calling and prompting you deeper awareness of His love for you. Talk to Him, tell Him what you do or don’t believe. I promise He will shine His face on you.

Please pray for me a sinner. Thank you

Do you really believe that a good and loving God would condemn you if you can’t help not believing in Him.
Jesus didn’t actually mention anything but kindness to others when he discussed the basis on which he judges souls. However you shouldn’t give up searching and asking God for grace and faith. If you suspect there is hell, you must suspect somewhere in your mind that God exists.

Continue being good and kind

Matthew chapter 25 verses 31-46, Jesus said,
  • 31f “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, 32g and all the nations* will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35h For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, 36naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’ 37Then the righteous* will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’ 40i And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ 41* j Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42k For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’ 44* Then they will answer and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?’ 45He will answer them, ‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’ 46l And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
God bless

If you reject God, He will reject you.
That’s all very well but some people honestly can’t believe in God,
or in God as a loving Father.
Some believers can’t understand how that can be so, but it is true that some people honestly can’t believe, or can’t believe yet.
They’re not rejecting God, because you have to believe there is Something in order to reject it.
If to a person’s mind there is nothing to reject they are just accepting what they see as facts and reality, not rejecting an unknown unseen Person.
Yes, I do know that some believers can’t understand that, but it is no less valid to genuine unbelievers.

Faith is a gift, not a gift everyone has received, so we must pray for them

When you say you are a “non believer” I presume that means you do not believe that God exists. Well, if God does not exist then why would you worry about Him sending you to hell?

How can something that does not exist do anything?

Good point Lost Sheep.

It is a bit of a misnomer to say God will send you to hell. God gives everyone the invitation to follow him. Those who accept it get to spend eternity with him in his glory, those who decline it get to be separated from him. It is your choice where you spend eternity, God just acknowledges the choice each of us has made.

Good luck with your journey.

If you don’t believe that someone exists, why would you care what they even think of you?

God has immense love for everyone of his creations, including you. If you don’t believe in his existence, then why believe in his love or being sent to hell? Again, if you don’t believe in God, why are you even concern about this?

John 3:36 whoever believes in the son has eternal life but whoever rejects the son will not see life…for Gods wrath remains on him.

1 John 5:12 he who has the son has life; he who does not have the son of God does not have life

I’m going to add you to my prayers that God will open your eyes…eternity is a long time

I doubt G-d operates tit for tat in the same way humans too often do.
I agree. Some people seem to think that God sees non-believers and goes “Ha! I’ll show you!” rains fire and brimstone

But maybe it’s more that if God sees you aren’t interested in Him, then He figures you probably wouldn’t want to hang out with Him for all eternity. 🤷

But how can suffering and pain be no more (Rev 20:4) if those in the pool of fire suffer and are in pain?
The no more pain for for the believer

Revelation 20:14-15

14
h Then Death and Hades were thrown into the pool of fire. (This pool of fire is the second death.*)
15
Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the pool of fire.

And Revelation 21:8 But as for cowards,* the unfaithful, the depraved, murderers, the unchaste, sorcerers, idol-worshipers, and deceivers of every sort, their lot is in the burning pool of fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

But also let us trust in the infinite mercy of God, who will give His followers every grace necessary to make it to eternal life.

You are God’s creation ( although you don’t know or believe in Him yet). He loves you totally, the same as he does all others, Christian or not. As a Catholic Christian I am blessed that I can try to return a small drop of His love back to Him and I can worship him and I can talk to Him, the one who can thoroughly understand me. Also I can thank Him for the gifts of human love, beauty of nature, kindness of friends, gift of fulfilling career, etc. Also I can plead and beg with him for help for others and when I am in deep trouble i can cry out to Him as my good Father who listens carefully to the cry and hurt of his children.

You don’t know and also all of us here can’t know what your response will be when you too have a chance to know God. It could be a second before you die or It might be soon. He is all Mercy and he gives us many opportunities to choose Him. If you reject him at the last opportunity and choose evil…

I have this feeling that although you don’t believe in Him now, you wouldn’t come to this form if you had no interest and this question wouldn’t be on your mind.

Certainly God takes pleasure to see you and others that don’t know Him “Love your neighbor as yourself,” so don’t stop doing your best to be a good guy!🙂
