I very much want to quit the catholic church and become an
Assembly of God member. Am i doomed for hell?
I don’t fit in with the CC, there is no enthusiasm there.
Absolutely not !!! There is nothing in scripture that would even hint of that…Faith in Christ grants your entrance to heaven…All believers belong to His church…Peter preached a sermon where 3000 put their faith in Him and added them to the church…You become a living stone in that church and gather with Him in a local eccklesia…What gets someone to hell…Rejecting His plan of salvation…All who call on Him will be saved…That’s lifted right from is word…Never fall for control and manipulation and guilt trips spomeone might lay on you…

I would suggest looking into the Charsimatic movement with in the Catholic Church. I joined the prayer group at my church and I love it. I still have to do the life in the spirit course . But I am working on it. I love the praise and worship part of it and I also love the traditional mass to . So I get the best of both.

…All who call on Him will be saved…That’s lifted right from is word…Never fall for control and manipulation and guilt trips spomeone might lay on you…
Not quite. This is lifted right from the Word also:

21"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

To the OP: Don’t leave! The Assemblies of God Church, while it may be “enthusiastic” doesn’t have Jesus in the Eucharist. Could you really walk away from that? If your answer is yes, you could easily walk away from receiving our Lord, then I guess you may as well go. What’s the point of staying if you don’t believe in the Eucharist? How sad for you though. 😦

Are you sure you aren’t mistaking our “lack of enthusiasm” for reverence for His sacrifice? I don’t think there was much whooping and dancing it up at the foot of the cross?

Yes there are tares among us all…people going through the motions …having a form of godliness but denying His power…This guy has a desire for something more, let Him move where he feels the Lord directing him…

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen

I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day

I want to thank David Mark for quoting Baha’u’llah, from Epistle to the Son of the Wolf, p. 133:

“Where is Paradise, and where is Hell? The one is Reunion with Me; the other thine own self.”
Code:
I had just been lamenting in my journal how hard I'd tried over the years to be "good," to little avail. I wrote, "Like Satan, first valuing my own perfection, I've put me before God. I am my god." A violation of the First Commandment: Thou shalt put no other gods before Me...

In my first post on this site introducing myself, I said that sharing our beliefs in interfaith dialog can strengthen one's own faith, rather than lead to questioning it. What I've just written above is a good example of that.

Take from a protestant who wants to be Catholic, hold on to what you’ve got.
I do wish the Catholic Church sharred in the enthuiastic spirit of protestants though.
But my search for the truth has led me to Catholosism.👍

Francis, I left the Assemblies of God for Catholicism.

THey do have a lot of hype. But that is just it. It’s all flash and no substance. It may work for a few years, but it’s hard to stay the course for the rest of your life, I know MAYBE 2 or 3 people who make it more than 5 years. It’s like trying to live on candy. Candy is great and has its substance, but it will leave you seriously malnourished.

There are charismatic catholics, and there are groups of people out there (like me!) that are looking for that flash AND the substance. I personally worship God best in an energetic and emotional manner. Talk to your priest, get to know people in your parish. We are out there, and we are looking for each other!! I would LOVE, seriously, LOOOOOVE to meet someone like you in my parish.
I am sorry you feel that way. I am part of an Assemblies of God church and due to moving around have been to many AoG churches.

I just simply cannot agree with your opinion on the church. Jesus Christ is alive in AG churches and there are many many people that have been there for decades.

We will have to agree to disagree in the end.

47 Replies and no other post from the OP.

I smell a troll.

But you have started quite a lively discussion 🙂 so I suppose that counts for something.

First of all that you are even asking whether you are doomed for hell just because you are leaving home illustrates you are quite ignorant about Catholic belief.

Perhaps once you become more educated about Catholic belief then you will become more enthusiastic.

The without error or omission is open to debate among many people. Go, explore find out where you belong.
Hmm there is probably some merit in that advice. Chesterton said something similar in the Everlasting Man. The only way to really appreciate Home for what it is to be deep inside or far, far away from it.
Visit churches and don’t look to be entertained.
Very sound advice.
Open your heart and mind and see where you feel close to God.
I am sure the pagans, wiccans and other occultists ‘feel’ close to god in these enterprises.

Don’t go by mere feelings. Feelings change with the wind and the quality of your next meal or the agreeability or disagreeability of the weather, etc, etc.

Jesus said I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Find out where the truth is and you will find where Jesus truly is.

I have another idea. Seek the truth and only the truth. Don’t be surprised when it leads you right back to the Catholic Church.
Aaah, a very sensible man.:tiphat:

Top marks!

Yes, sooner or later one finds that all roads lead to Rome unless one insists on being stuck mid journey. 🙂

I think you absolutely should quit the CC.
Said like a true blue clueless protestant 😃 (no offense intended to the clued ones)
And no you won’t be doomed to hell for it. In fact I believe you are instructed to leave it in the bible. Rev18:4 4And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
Said like a true protestant who does not understand the book of revelations.

I take it you are one of those who think the Catholic Church is the whore of Babylon. You would not by any chance the brother of Jack Chick :rotfl:

There was a poster who thought the Catholic Church too academic, too rational.

I read your post and thought thank heavens for that.

I do believe that the spirit of Christ, like a brilliant light is re-ignited in Bahá’u’lláh. It is a different lamp, with a different Name, but the same Light, as promised in Revelation 2:17 & 3:12.
Actually no. Christ is God Incarnate. We have no need of any other.
But if you are expecting the body of the Nazarene to descend from the sky, or fixated on a particular lamp, or dawning-place, then you may miss the Light when it shines forth from another Lamp, or dawning-place. We should know the sun no matter what point it arises from, or what name of day it is.
Not a good analogy. The sun that rises in the east and sets in the west is the same sun. There is no other manifestation f it.

The pagans attempt to comprehend God prior to the advent of Christ is understandable. But once Christ has come, there is no need for any other revelation.

We go to church to experience Christ…
Nope. We don’t go to Church to experience Christ. We go there to Worship God regardless of our feelings.

God did not say “keep holy the sabbath day” when you feel enthused. So what happens if the op finds no church that gets him enthused?
And part of that contains feeling as they are God given…We feel being bless or feel conviction or drawing of the Holy Spirit.
Sometimes. Not all the time. God grants this as He pleases. We seek the Giver of gifts not the gifts. We come to Worship the God of consolation and joy and not the consolation and joy of God.
.We can feel a desire to want more of Him…
And you cannot get any more of Him than His Body and Blood. You cannot get any closer to God than during Mass.
You believe Jesus is that wafer in a stand,
We do not merely believe. We know this to be true because Jesus Himself said so.
I feel His presence at church without a wafer and a stand…
Probably. But we only have your word for it. I rather prefer Christ’s own words if I am going to believe anything.
The Holy Spirit can surely lead use to where we can grow and be planted…
Very true. But the devil can mislead us. And the devil has been know to masquerade as the angel of light.
We actually have some Catholics along with some from other churches coming …Our church is growing while others in the area are drying up…Part of end times apostasy…
After all is said and done, your church is still not the church that Christ established here on earth so increasing numbers don’t count for much. Except perhaps as cautionary note that it is very easy to be led astray.

One word of caution though. We are not perfect by any stretch. At some point in your Christian journey, your particular church is bound to let you down. And that goes for any church.
The Catholic Church cannot let anyone done because it is the Body of Christ, with Christ at the head. Some members of the Catholic Church may let you down but the Church cannot do that because that would mean that God has let you down and God will never do that.
But no, your eternal destiny in no way depends upon selecting the right segment of Christianity to associate with.
Somewhat true. But I think being part of Christ’s One true Church counts for something. For one thing you have the sacraments to help you in your journey to your eternal home.

Correction: “added them to the Catholic Church.” In St Peter’s time there was only one Holy Catholic Church.

The other churches came 1500 years later.
You become a living stone in that church and gather with Him in a local eccklesia…What gets someone to hell…Rejecting His plan of salvation…All who call on Him will be saved…
Jesus said not all who call Him Lord, Lord will enter the Kingdom fo God.

From my view, you just denied God. Like a Jew, who won’t crack open the Gospel.

I probably denied your concept of God but I did not deny God.

That,s very true, but heaven won’t be filled with just believers from your roman catholic church…There are tares among us all who have a form of religion but deny Him…Some talk the talk but watch them during the week and you will see a different walk…Anyway when I see people like you who seem to know it all and diss other believers in Christ because they are not in your group, I think of these verses…

49 And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.
50 And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
