Why would any Christian worry about the second coming? I’m looking forward to it! It gives me hope!
Neil,

Let me ask you this. Would you rather know when the second coming will occur (which nobody does) or strive to be holy so that you may have eternal life with the Father? Your choice.

Tobinator,
why do I have to choose between the two? Jesus said to watch the signs of the times AND to be holy.

Tobinator, what about all the folks who are convinced the mark is an implanted ID? Folks who have sighed with relief and refuse to look at the possibilities. I believe the chip thing is a diabolical deception meant to keep people from being able to see the real mark. Those people have stopped seeking truth about the mark , would be less resistant to it’s temptation and consequently, allow the real one to mark their souls.

Not knowing when Christ comes again is the best thing that can happen, it SHOULD keep us sober so we will be ready for when it happens. I don’t think any of us want to be in the middle of committing a mortal sin when the trumpet sounds, what a nightmare! But the 2nd coming of Christ means no more to our fate than the last breath we take in our lives, we should be just as ready for either.

So basically, our last day on earth, whether it is a car wreck, cancer, heart attack that takes us out, that is just as vital to our fates as the Lord coming upon the clouds in glory.

Good point! But I think that when the Antichrist has begun his severe persecution, all this hobby horse theology and foolish divisions among Christians over non-essential points of views will be a thing of the past. When Christians are being mowed down over their faith by governments and having to worship as a “church underground” then much of the self segregating Christ loving groups will be looking for fellow believers to lean on. In times like that even many of the anti-Catholic groups will either convert to the Church or at least call us brethren. We all unite over the abortion issue, how much more when we all are being thrown to the lions!

That is a very good point and quite possibly true. So everyone has to decide for
themselves and remember that the state of our soul is the important thing, it
trumps the “chip thing”.

Cheeto, I agree that the state of the soul is paramount.

I think that this "chip’ delusion hinders that end for those who believe it. It cements their feet in a superficial view that blinds them to the Sacramental life of the Church in the world.

I think the majority of Christians including Catholics put far too much excessive speculation and consternation in coming to a decision by investigative limited human reasoning and limited intellectual faculty on human terms interpreting the Book of the Apocalypse, the Second Coming, and in particular the actual words Jesus uses in the New Testament.
Unless your a die-hard Bible thumper who (“Only”) relies on literal translations your missing an integral part on spiritual mysteries on how Jesus (“God”) would interpret all the words he spoke to us in (“Gods language”). I think the past Church Fathers and Saints tried to convey this as best they humanly could with great reliance and full credit given to the Holy Spirit. It takes a vast amount of humility and prayer ascertaining the yet to be interpreted mysteries and mystical language hidden inside the words Jesus spoke to us. Sometimes in deep contemplative prayer God reveals a mystery about a scripture reading He spoke about in the New Testament that individuals have been fathoming for years. All a sudden “you know that you know”’, but; you can’t describe it by faculty of human language. Not sure if some here understand what I am trying to convey.
Not all scripture that Jesus spoke is as humanly literal as people make the proud estimation of perceiving it. Perhaps I’m getting off-line in this Post’s topic but much humanly perceived by intellectual faculty in what Jesus was trying to convey to us about the Second Coming is shrouded in mystical mysteries to fool the esteemable wise.
I’ll stick with the past Church Fathers and Saints on this speculation about the Second Coming.

This statement says it all, and the question in the original post is rather open to such personal interpretation that no one “answer” would seem to be right or wrong. It does not give enough discription as to what the mark is or what it entails. I often notice that people who are more apt to read into scripture what is not there, are the ones who label what the “mark” is or could be. This makes a great deal of money for some, but leaves others in nothing but fear and useless speculation.

I most assuredly can say that the anti-christ would not be so blatenly open to such novelties that are so obvious. The deception would have to be so subtle that most persons would not even realize they had taken the mark, if that is possible. Only those who would knowingly take the mark, for their own selfish purposes and power hunger, would know what they are doing in the process. I wonder how much further Follywood is going to take a topic that has just about been exhausted…that is until someone can come up with more creative ideas.

Very Good point:

I too share your sentiments on this. After all the Mark of the Beast (“IS”) an invisible Mark; which alludes to it being deposited interiorly in a person’s soul in it’s own fallacies and failure to have a contrite humble devotional love toward God and His Commandments rather than the outside on the surface of our bodies.

I will not.
Don’t forget Rv 14:9-11. Every UPC code has a six, six, six in it.
Look at one. The 2 skinny lines together mean a “6”.
This is simply wrong. Two minutes on Google will help you realize this. In short, 6 is not represented by two skinny lines. 6 is a skinny line, a skinny space, a skinny line, and then a wide space. Well, that is if it is on the right side. On the left side it is a skinny space, a skinny line, a skinny space, and then a wide line.

If people ever get microchips it will use a completely different coding system than UPC anyway. Besides, Revelations says the mark will be put on people, not on boxes of Mac ‘n’ Cheese.

Thanks spauline,
I agree with you. I voted “yes”, I have no problem accepting a chip in my hand for finacial security, even if the code number has 666 in it. LOL
You’re welcome, Neil. God bless you for your common sense.

If we can see the Eucharist for what it REALLY is instead of what we perceive it to be, we will find within it the Way, the Truth, and the Life that makes real decisions easier and all hypothetical decisions regarding hypothetical situations seem hypothetically trivial. 😉

Being a recovering alcoholic and sinner, I have learned not to speculate on what I will do tomorrow, but in relying on God’s grace for this present moment, I pray to do what He wants me to do RIGHT now.

But in not spoiling the fun of the question: If this ‘microchip’ is ‘the mark of the beast’ which someday the government may intend to implant in our bodies, I hope my Eucharist-infused personhood will have the grace to do the will of God at that moment.

Taking the mark? I wouldn’t, based on the following verses which seems pretty straight forward.

Revelation 14:8] Another angel, a second, followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who made all nations drink the wine of her impure passion.”
9] And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If any one worships the beast and its image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand,
10] he also shall drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured unmixed into the cup of his anger, and he shall be tormented with fire and sulphur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.
11] And the smoke of their torment goes up for ever and ever; and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.”

Revelation 16:2] So the first angel went and poured his bowl on the earth, and foul and evil sores came upon the men who bore the** mark** of the beast and worshiped its image.

Revelation 19:19] And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who sits upon the horse and against his army.
20] And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had worked the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulphur.
21] And the rest were slain by the sword of him who sits upon the horse, the sword that issues from his mouth; and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.

Hypothetical:

The government mandates that all citizens receive a microchip in their hand to be used to buy and sell. All buying and selling will be illegal without this chip. The number in the chip is 666 followed by your social security number. If you do not get the chip, you can no longer buy or sell anything.

Do you accept this chip?
The government can already get any information on any of us anytime they want to. How would a microchip be any different? Just make it easier for them.

No. And it has nothing to do with the book of Revelation. The problem is that personal freedoms are being denied. That’s why I emphasized ‘all’ and ‘anything’ in the above quote. As it is described in the above quote, that hypothetical mandate would be wrong and unjust because it denies the true ownership of personal property to an individual. I say ‘true’ ownership because the individual decides what s/he wants to own and where or from whom s/he wants to acquire such property. Transactions between two property owners is a basic freedom. Government may tax or levee a fee on such transactions, but not control them outright.

Now if you wanted to control military spending in this matter, a select group of people engaged in a select type of transaction using public funds, then, yes, it might be very useful.

But all citizens and all transactions of anything? No.

It would be incredible stupid to empower the government with such open-ended control.

: P

I didn’t ask if you would EMPOWER the government, or approve of it… I asked if you would accept the chip if otherwise you would no longer be able to buy and sell.
