**“I’ll shop where ever I can get the best deal on my items from. Unless it’s at Walmart because I HATE that stupid store. The ones near me are always filthy, and there’s always one register open with the worlds largest dimwit who can’t seem to understand how to swipe their credit card, and which buttons to hit afterwards. Ugh that fills me with unending rage at any time of the year but more so during the holiday season.”

Thats why i love the fact that our Walmarts have Self-checkout!!! I will shop wherever the deals are too, but lately i have to say i really like amazon and ebay. Its just so much easier. Also i go antique stores throughout the year for gifts so i try to avoid walmart except to get diapers;)But to OP question as far as the whole “Merry Christmas” it doesn’t bother me whether say it or not. Mostly i know how busy stores are now and i’d rather have a nice salesperson who doesn’t say it than a pushy cranky and rude one who says it because they are forced to.

Why shop anywhere? If you’re sick of the materialism and consumerism of the “season” or of the country, then stop being materialistic and consumeristic.

The “season” is about whatever you choose it to be about. I teach music at an elementary school, and we sing loads and loads of winter songs - starting at the first snow and ending some time in February. I would never dream of singing any sort of Christmas song with my students, whether about Santa or Christ. For me, the celebration of Christmas is sacred, and I celebrate it with my family and my church community. I hardly ever give gifts to anyone outside my immediate family.

On the other hand, if it weren’t for the avalanche of Christmas presents from the grandparents every year, we wouldn’t have made it to our son’s third birthday having spent less than $100 on clothes and shoes for him! I don’t know if the grandmas were greeted with a “Merry Christmas” when they bought his clothes. 😃

Yes, but not Christmas shopping as such. I still try to ignore the commercial aspects of Christmas as much as I can. I just do my regular shopping.

I have no ides if PETSMART will say Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas. It doesn’t matter. I have to buy a special cat food or risk having three disgruntled cats to live with:eek:

Abortion is an issue, euthanasia is an issue, same sex marriage is an issue, condoms in schools is an issue. Whether a store chooses to use the phrase Merry Christmas is not an issue to me. We celebrate Christ’s birth in our churches and our homes not in the aisle at Walmart.

My feelings exactly. There is enough people in the world who are trying to frustrate me. I don’t need to go looking to take offense from someone who is just trying to navigate the shoals in our politically correct world.

Only if they have chepaer prices than those that do sat Merry Christmas

Yes. Why should I force a Jew or a Hindhu, etc to wish Christ a happy birthday just so that I wll buy an item from them?

If it makes you feel better, I usually do not buy a religious item from them, but a sweater, or a pair of pajamas, sure.

The birth of Christ is the reason everyone is given the day off on December 25th!

Right now many stores are using “Seasons Greetings” and “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas”. It’s sure funny how the stores use “Seasons Greetings” and “Happy Holidays” before Christmas and then the day after Christmas these same stores advertise as our “After CHRISTMAS Sale”. Seems to me the stores only use the word “Christmas” when they want to make a buck. Why do Catholics (Christians) put up with this? Has not consumerism/materialism gone too far?

I also find it funny how stores advertise the “Christmas Tree” now as the “Holiday Tree”. I going to walk up to the salespeople at these stores and ask them where I can buy a "Labor Day Tree".

For those stores which use the words “Seasons Greetings”. Why not use those same words for the entire year. The year goes by and brings us different seasons so I think the stores which use “Seasons Greetings” should just keep up these signs all year round.

Last, does anyone know where I can find the “Holiday Bunny” and “Holiday Eggs” at Easter time. It’s time Catholics and Christians begin to stand up for Christ in “CHRISTMAS”!!
I never thought of that! The fact that stores use “after Christmas sale” but don’t say “Merry Christmas”.

I am sick and tired of stores baning the use of “Christmas” by their employees. Why all the sensitivity? For example, name one Jewish person who get sad and offended when being told “Merry Christmas”. Any Jewish person I know says it right back 🙂

Christmas is a United States national holiday. Do we hide saying the term “veterans day” for fear it might offend someone not associated with the armed forces or veterans? And thats the most BASIC example. Christmas IS celebrated by MILLIONS of Christians. Why can’t it simply be acknlowledged without fear of “offending” someone?

Last year, Wal-Mart banned the phrase from their stores. This year, it’s back by popular demand. Who is it who decides that “Holiday tree” and “seasons greetings” are better than “Christmas Tree” and “Merry Christmas”.

As for holiday tree, why again the fear of offending? Example, we don’t call a menorah the “Jewish holiday candles”. Why does the “holiday tree” have to be bent over backwards to occomodate EVERYONE out of fear? Why can’t it simply be a “christmas tree” for those who celebrate christmas to enjoy?

For goodness sakes…

I said “other”, so here’s my explanation …

There is one store that I know for sure ahead of time has decided to say “Happy Holidays” instead of Merry Christmas, and that’s Best Buy. I won’t be shopping at Best Buy this year.

However, if a store said, “Happy Holidays” to me, I would say “Merry Christmas” in return, but I would still buy the things I had gone there to buy.

its not about simply looking for offense, its about Christian traditions being muzzeled out of fear. I want my children to appreciate the Christmas tree, not some generic rendition called a “holiday tree”. And what a sad day when you say “merry christmas” to the sales clerk and they can’t reply with the message in return because theyre told not to do so by higher-ups out of fear. Couple all of this with the growing cases of removing historic Christian symbols from public places (courts, parks, highways, cities) and what we have is an Anti-Christian, fearful, generic, watered-down, fearful mentality.

I don’t shop for Christmas presents during the Christmas shopping season. I wait for the last of the big clearance salesand go then. People have ended up with beach towels for Christmas, but they are well received.

I once wished a coworker a Happy Hanauka (sp?) out of respect for him and his choices… he in turn wished me a Merry Christmas… of course I’m going to shop at stores that do not wish me a Merry Christmas… I do not worship at the store and actually use the store to meet my ends. I couldn’t care lesswhat they say to me and in fact, actually like it when no one talks (pressures me into buying something)

Sometimes what the clerk says shows a lack of some kind. This evening a clerk wished “Merry Christmas” to a woman in front of me. The customer was in full Muslim attire.

I don’t care if they say Happy Hula-Hoop Day;) Just treat me with respect and speedy service:)

We’re bogged down in a war that is a political, moral, and financial catastrophe; the flower of our youth is getting killed by terrorists in Iraq and who-knows-where else; the American people are more polarized than they’ve been in years; poverty is rampant in America and sometimes I wonder when God is going to strike us all dead for our insatiable materialism.

But by God, stores better say Merry Christmas or the world will come to an end!
