Don’t mean to just jump in at the middle of this discussion, but those of you who are putting the N.O. Mass down, …for some of us that is the only Mass that we have access to.
I spent some time with my Dad last summer and in Modesto there were 3 Catholic Churches that I knew of and several priests at each Church. Here in the South it isn’t like that in the smaller rural areas. I live close to Tupelo and there is ONE Catholic Church in Tupelo and the Latin Tridentine Mass isn’t offered anywhere in MS at this time. It was listed for Jackson but that is hours and hours away at the bottom of the state. (and as it turned out, it had been cancelled!) Tupelo is up in the Northeast corner of MS.
Our Mass is pretty reverent. If anyone “covers” at Mass, there aren’t many. My friend wears either a mantilla or a hat, but I decided to go with a veil that is listed on the “Plain Catholic” website. The biggest problem so far has been that people will come up to me and assume that I am a Catholic Sister. I feel that is because Catholics miss seeing their Religious Sisters in veils! We have Catholic Sisters as “Pastoral Ministers” here in the South where we are not able to have a priest. The ones I have seen in MS do NOT wear veils so it is hard to identify them if you don’t know them.
I like my veil, though, so I just hope that people will get used to seeing me in it and will know that I am not a Sister.
BLESSINGS!
