I just don’t like how version of Nights in White Satin you usually hear on the radio doesn’t have all the string parts that were on the album…

That poetry bit is actually another track, “Late Lament”, penned by Graeme Edge. It’s often “tacked on” to “Nights” as the two run together on the album, similar to “Time” /“Breathe (reprise)” on Dark Side of the Moon. “We Will Rock You” is almost never played without “We Are The Champions” despite being two very distinct (and easily separated) songs. It often becomes a convention to play a pair of songs in succession, especially if played from an album (a la FM radio) as opposed to from singles (a la AM radio).

Remember, back in tha day, they only had a limited number of minutes per side on a '45.

I know that, but there are also extra overdubbed orchestral tracks to the main song that are sometimes left out. Actually one of my local radio stations played the full song the other day, which was pretty neat.

What!?! George Michael was a really good singer/song writer. WHAM! was a little over the top, but George Michael’s first solo album was great. After that he got a little weird, but the first solo with Faith, Father Figure, Monkey, those were all great songs.
 
“Sympathy for the Devil” by Rolling Stones. Musically I think it is great, but the lyrics leave me feeling ill at ease.

I think I’d like the song more if it weren’t for the title; the lyrics are basically just a history lesson, although rather unsettling.
 
In the same vein as above, “Tuesday Afternoon”, off of the same album, flows directly into another song, “Evening (Time to Get Away)”, but most radio stations play only the edited single version of TA. This is one of many reasons I am glad internet radio stations are so popular now; many good songs that were hidden, forgotten or heavily edited are being heard by more people now in the way they were originally intended to be heard. But hey, I like listening to an entire album by any given artist I like, so don’t mind me. 👍

Back to the thread topic: “Fire”, by “The Crazy World of Arthur Brown”. The beginning of the song alone turned me off: “I AM THE GOD OF HELLFIRE!” Whoopie, another stupid crackhead trying to shock people. :rolleyes:

Gotta go out on a limb and say I love Careless Whispers, Everything She Wants, & Last Christmas by Wham! and Kissing a Fool off of Faith. Kissing a Fool was actually a pretty good jazz song.

Again, try the Weird Al version, called the Brady Bunch. The second verse is the Brady Bunch theme set to the Safety Dance melody! 😃

I love Weird Al! I don’t mind the Safety Dance but I can see how that would tend to get stuck in the noggin.
