The non-existent songwriting talent of Ringo, as evidenced by Don’t Pass Me By and Octopus’ Garden simply proves that the Beatles were 3 musical geniuses and a drummer

I don’t think Ringo’s voice sounds that bad, but he doesn’t exactly sing on key. 😛 And the songs he wrote aren’t really too special. I do like his drumming though, expecially on Blue Jay Way.

Don’t Pass Me By, Bungalow Bill and Act Naturally are excellent songs. Now, Hello, Goodbye is irritating.
 
Of course, half the songs the Beatles did in their early years were covers.

not really…only about 2-3 covers per album until '66, with the exclusion of A Hard Day’s Night, which was all original
 
Please Please Me had six covers.
With the Beatles had six covers.
Beatles for Sale had six covers.
Plus they did plenty of covers live.

They covered a LOT of R & B:

“Roll Over Beethoven”
“Anna”
“Chains”
“Twist and Shout”
“Matchbox”
“You Really Got a Hold on Me”
“Please Mr. Postman”

And Broadway:

“Till There Was You”

Probably more.
 
Lick It Up" by the band Kiss. It defines Juvenile.

Previous comments on Edie Brickell got me here. Was wondering what folks here thought of her meaning in the lyrics for “What I Am” which I think are semi-bad but musically or sonically it’s good.
 
and Ebony and Ivory ( Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson-and didn’t MJ buy all the Beatles songs after that?

Say, Say, Say and The Girl is Mine were McCartney Jackson duets. Ebony and Ivory was a duet with Steviee Wonder.

But yes, they were all bad.

Leonard Nimoy’s Ballad of Bilbo Baggins gets my vote.
 
Side note: Y’all shoud read Dave Barry’s Book of Bad Songs. It’s a hoot. (And I’m not a humongous fan of Barry’s, I guess I just can relate to a lot of the songs mentioned, whether I like them or not.)

He mentions the album Golden Throats, which has “Jack ‘Dragnet’ Webb performing a version of ‘Try a Little Tenderness’ that is guaranteed to void even the strongest bladder.”
 
Alone Again (Naturally) – whiny little loser song that they kept playing … and playing … and playing !

Where was Senator Mc Carthy and the HUAC committee when we needed them? 😉
 
Just looking at the title of this thread put “Seasons in the Sun” into my head, and now I can’t get it out!!!

:confused: - All these and “Why Don’t We Do It In the Road?” Doesn’t make the list?

Granted, I don’t REALLY know WHAT was going to be done in the road. But if I listed any of the first three things I thought of … well … you’d NEVER want to be doing any of them … particularly WITH someone else (we) in or ON a road at any time. Even with the proviso that no one will be watching us.

WOULD that no one would be HEARING that.

I think the Beatles decided to end their session angry one day … and someone stupidly put their protest on the album. To everyone’s detriment.

Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon. I found it annoying when it first came out and now that it still plays on the radio over a year later, I just want it to die.
