I never realized people hated ā€œMacArthur Parkā€ so much until the Wiki article came out calling it the ā€œworst song ever writtenā€. I always found it intriguing in a 60s kind of cheesy way, and it was written by Jimmy Webb who is widely considered one of the greatest songwriters of all time and is in several songwriter halls of fame as well as winning a bunch of awards. Anyway, it was worth it being a hit just so Weird Al Yankovic could spoof it a few generations later as ā€œJurassic Parkā€.

ā€œMuskrat Loveā€ was just kinda sillyā€¦Iā€™d rather listen to that than ā€œSilly Love Songsā€ by McCartney and Wings though. I love a lot of stuff by McCartney, but ā€œSilly Love Songsā€ was his absolute nadir in my opinion, and that song was played on the radio at least 10 times a day back when those of us with no money for records were stuck listening to the radio because we had nothing else. (No wonder downloading got started.)

But weā€™ve forgotten what SHOULD be the CAF theme song:

FEELINGS

barf.

Anything beatles

Or Neil Young

The absolute worst is a smarmy song Iā€™m forced to listen to, and absolutely refuse to sing, in churchā€¦ā€˜Let there be peace on earthā€™ā€¦

Well at the age of 4 I used to serenade my mum with Doris Dayā€™s Que Sera Sera, after a couple of months of me singing this song mostly in the car, she told me to shut up. I now have a love/hate thing with this song!

Any Mumble Trap rap song will do.

Itā€™s mainly used as an adult repellent.

ā€œSometimes When We Touch,ā€ by Dan Hill.

I win the thread.

I donā€™t know if itā€™s the worst, but ā€˜Afternoon Delightā€™ (A-a-afternoon delight!) is pretty bad.

In a similar vein the Eaglesā€™ ā€˜Take it Easyā€™ is pretty bad, lyrics-wise at least.

And I really canā€™t stand Paul McCartneyā€™s ā€œSimply having a wonderful Christmas timeā€ though I think bad Christmas songs should be considered separately.

Speaking of Hanson, ā€œMmm-Bopā€ (or however itā€™s spelled) is one of my daughterā€™s favorite songs. Of course, sheā€™s only fourā€¦

And speaking of my daughter, Iā€™d like to nominate that ā€œLet it Goā€ song from Frozen as one of the worst ever. If I hear it one more time, I might have to puncture my own eardrums.

@Inisfallen, while I think ā€˜Let it Goā€™ was overexposed, I donā€™t think itā€™s actually a bad song.

Yeah, I know, but you have no idea what a four-year-old girlā€™s capacity for repetition is. Over and over and overā€¦ ā€œplay it again, Daddy!ā€ ā€œAgain!ā€

And of course I canā€™t resist her.

Hm, I see what you mean. That could cause a ā€˜world of painā€™ to quote the John Goodman character from ā€˜The Big Lebowskiā€™.
