Would you leave if the church mandated communion on the toungue and kneeling?

i’m still trying to figure out why communion on the tongue kneeling still isn’t the norm for the Latin Rite…why on Earth was it ever changed?:confused::confused:
It is the norm. Reception in the hands has an indult, which can be rescinded (for good reason) on the parish level.

I’m more likely to leave the Church if it doesn’t mandate the reception of Communion this way. 🙂

It’s a good question. It could easily become ‘just another liturgical abuse’ (funny how that sounds when it comes to receiving on the tongue), which (referring to liturgical abuses) bishops have so lovingly allowed to continue.
Not to be argumentative; but I’m not so sure if I follow you. Receiving of the Tongue is not a Liturgical Abuse.

Usually its the local Bishop that sets the tone with the custom of the diocese with his priests…

But a faithful Catholic can walk up to receive Holy Communion under either form and not be disobedient as some often have claimed.

As a small example a number of physical disabilities in physical motor control as with arthritis can cause some Faithful individuals feel insecure about receiving Holy Communion in the hands and yet maybe disparagingly looked down upon others.

And its not the first time I heard of this before.

Peace
Chris

Please read the post I was responding to.

I was stating that if it became the rule that receiving could only be done in the hand, and yet priests and the laity continued to practice it, what would happen? I stated that it would probably be treated as a liturgical abuse (which it would be, if it was not allowed), and so would go on as many liturgical abuses do now.

If Rome dictates we pray standing on one foot and balancing a frisbee, that is how I will pray. If Rome dictates Mass is to be celebrated by priests dressed as clowns, that is the Mass I will attend. that is not going to happen because Rome is concerned at all times and places with worship as Christ himself has dictated in matter and form, and in the details he left to her decision, she is concerned with reverence and propriety. Obedience is the root of all virtue and all spiritual health, so I will obey.

anyone who answers this question yes is on the wrong forum and needs to hop on over to non-Catholic religions

I am with you puzzleannie. We all need to obey the Magisterium of the Church. I also feel that this question is just wasting space on this forum.

I would be more than happy to receive this way again as I did in childhood, if it’s not broke don’t fix it, think it has become very irreverent now…

Not only would I go to Mass, I would get down on my knees and thank the Lord Almighty for the privilege of coming to me!

You bet I would. Hardcore!

I don’t know…we only had one person say they would. Perhaps it serves to remind people that no matter how they receive communion, obedience to the Church is what is important. Sometimes I get the feeling that some Catholics think that those who receive CITH are more cafeteria Catholics…and that is not necessarily the case. As proven by this poll.

Let’s take it as an affirmative that we are closer together on some issues then people think:thumbsup:

:gopray2::signofcross::blessyou:🎉 i would not leave but several mostly senior citizens cannot kneel because of health problems. so what can they do?

Right on point Annie, between this and, “Holding Hands at the Our Father” thread, or “My Latin Mass is better than your Mass” threads it’s a wonder anyone get’s from this site what it was originated for: Networking to find information ABOUT our Faith, not about what not to like about the Faith. Spot on.

Why would anyone leave the Church that Jesus HIMSELF established?? Especially for such a silly reason! If kneeling is what it takes to recieve Our Lord, then sign me up for kneeling! If doing a backflip was what it took, then sign me up! I might wind up in tracton, but Jesus is worth it!

If there is no clear authoritative source that this is a likely course of action which can be cited from the Holy See or the USCCB, it is not a helpful subject to your faith. The Holy See is not a democracy nor does it operate on “feelings”.

Be careful of such vague topics that are only made to “get” people talking.

@Chris, Don’t worry, The Church also has 2011 years of experience dealing with the human condition. As long as the parish Priest or local Bishop is made aware of a condition, the person can be accomodated with the knowledge that no disrespect is intended.

While I love the beauty of our Catholic Mass, the real love and the real beauty come with the consecration of and participation in the Holy Eucharist, whether I’m on my knees or on tiptoes. Considering leaving the church over any such issue is placing earthly concerns over heavenly ones.:console:

This seems silly. For many of us kneeling is both painful and difficult. Probably few would leave, but more likely many, especially the older and infirm , would receive much less frequently like in the "good old days " before the entire congregation lined up like they do now. (On a side note, try to spell tongue correctly.)
I’m not sure what I’d do. Here’s where I confuse myself  I am FOR that change BUT I cannot kneel. I also do NOT feel comfortable standing at the altar rail, it appears disrespectful to me. I wouldn’t feel comfortable sitting the handicapped section since I can walk and that would appear lazy. I wouldn’t know what to do in that case. I do not receive in the hand now as I don’t believe in it. I feel that the host can break or crumble and also people steal them.

I guess I would receive a whole lot less often.

I thought that was WHOLE POINT of forums or should we all sit in silence and stare at a blank screen.:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:
