Would you leave if the church mandated communion on the toungue and kneeling?

Are you implying that there is not already an exception for the disabled? I can assure you that my parish where receiving kneeling at the altar rail on the tongue from the priest or deacon is the norm that there are already established exceptions for those that are unable to kneel.
I had a priest insist I kneel and when I didn’t he walked away from me and I didn’t get served. I don’t want to go through an interview every time I take communion.

No :nope:. Who would leave the true Church that Jesus, the son of GOD founded for the salvation of souls, for a couple of small rules?
Amen to that. +1 for sure. 👍 “In the Church subsists the Full Truth and the means of Salvation, to whom shall we go?”

God bless.

I’d be fine with it. In fact I hope it happens. I think that it is far more reverent to take the Eucharist in a prayerful posture. I hope that it eventually becomes mandated that we take communion on the tongue.

… and no I’m not someone hung up on Vatican II changes, I’m 25 thank you.

I hear so much back and fort about this argument and just curious to see if people would actually leave for another church or stay if/when Rome mandates communion on the toungue kneeling. Please give response for your answer.
I already take Communion on the tongue and would love for the altar rails to come back, but can’t see it with many of the “progressive” priests and Bishops we have now.

In the Tridentine Mass there is usually a kneeler where two people can kneel and receive Communion. This would also work great in the parishes but I doubt that the Pope would ever mandate it.

I’m sure it wouldn’t be required for those who find kneeling painful and/or difficult. One would just have to let the priest know so that he could accomodate their physical limitations.
Right, like my priest has time before mass to have a discussion with the 20 or more people who can’t kneel. I can see that working (sarcasm)

This seems silly. For many of us kneeling is both painful and difficult. Probably few would leave, but more likely many, especially the older and infirm , would receive much less frequently like in the "good old days " before the entire congregation lined up like they do now. (On a side note, try to spell tongue correctly.)
Some parishes like ours have the elderly sit in the front pews or disabled people that cannot stand in the Communion line and the priest or deacon brings Communion to them.

To me, this would be a reasonable alternative even now.

There is a difference between not being able to stand in line vs not being able to kneel…

anyone who answers this question yes is on the wrong forum and needs to hop on over to non-Catholic religions
Or the Eastern Catholic Forums. I certainly won’t tolerate kneeling and COTT in the Byzantine Rite 😉

What a ridiculous question! Who would leave the church for such a silly reason. Communion on the tongue while kneeling is the NORMAL way of receiving.
Would you receive that way in your parish 😉

COT and Kneeling are both the norms of the Church. For the Novus Ordo- not just the TLM. The American Bishops have asked for and recieved permission from Rome to allow reception in the hand and while standing since these are not the norm.

In addition, no one can be refused Communion because they want to receive on the tongue or kneeling, again even at a Novus Ordo.

While the Church as permitted variance from the norms in America, I hope the practices of Communion in the hand and while standing both stop. Kneeling and reception on the tongue both are traditions that assist in having a reverent attitude towards the Eucharist. Considering the great many Catholics who struggle to believe in the True Presence, the greater reverence toward the Blessed Sacrament is needed now especially.

Standing and CITH is pretty much universal. Its not happening only in America.

Yes. This has come up several times, and from personal experience of posters worldwide on holidays and so on. or from reading documents. we established that CITH, standing, is universal bar one or two dioceses. It’s even allowed in Poland and Italy.

If only the Church would mandate receiving Holy Communion kneeling and on the tongue…

Ah, I so love daydreaming.

Regardless, of course I wouldn’t leave the Church over this or any other issue.

Although I would love to hear from one of the people that voted that they’d leave the Church if it did get rid of Communion standing and in the hand!   Why on Earth is this issue so important that you’d jeopardize your eternal salvation over it?

Dan,

I have enjoyed reading your posts. I agree with these sentiments. I wish that the Vatican would obliterate the indult. One can pray that this happens.

I am sure that if this indult was done away with, there would be more reverence shown to Jesus in the Eucharist, and I think people might think more about what they are doing.

God bless.

When I was younger, everyone received on the tongue and kneeling, in the Latin rite. This was standard up to the 1960s. I never heard of complaints about this back then. So if this again became the norm, I expect very few if any would stop going to mass because of it. (not that I think it likely it would become the norm again)

No, but why would the church micro-manage thing like that?🤷

People ARE leaving the church, lots of them, in disgust over the way the child molestation problem has been grossly mishandled by the Church.

Note: In most of the Eastern Catholic Churches that I have attended, communion is on the tongue, but standing. Is it REALLY all that important?

i’m still trying to figure out why communion on the tongue kneeling still isn’t the norm for the Latin Rite…why on Earth was it ever changed?:confused::confused:
Many are wondering the same thing. I guess it seemed like a great idea at the time.

Yes, I limited my observation to America, since that’s where I live and am most aware of what is going on, but I am aware that standing and CITH happen other places as well. The point remains though, that kneeling and COTT are still the norm of the Latin Rite, and to do otherwise requires permission for an exemption from the norm.

Thanks for the kind words.

That’s right! I am perfectly capable of walking and standing so how would sitting in the handicapped section be appropriate for me? I will not disrespect the altar and stand there, I say leave it the way it is but I realize that’s not the question.
