Iam just curious, would any of you love to see the TLM back, instead of the one we have now? I voted yes. I prefer the TLM. šŸ™‚

It will be hard for most people to answer properly as most under 50 probably have never experienced the TLM.

I would not want the Tridentine Latin Mass back* to replace *the Pauline Mass. But I would like it offered more often to people who legitimately want it.

What I would like is the Pauline Mass to be celebrated more reverently. I would like actually the Pauline Mass to be said in Latin with the Priest facing ad orientam.

Tridentine Latin Mass, as it was before Vatican II. Our church still has one about 4 times a year and we have gone a few times, to see what it was like. I hated it, this priest mumbling on, barely audible, while everybody was praying the rosary, or staring at their missalā€¦pfffā€¦it gave me the creeps! No, I donā€™t ā€˜missā€™ it and I certainly wouldnā€™t want it back. I converted at a time where the change had already taken place, and I must admit: I love being able to hear and understand what is being said! I do enjoy Gregorian chant though, and the odd hymn in Latin is nice too, but Iā€™m afraid the TLM makes me feel like a spectator, on the side-lines, not taking part in what is going on at the front.

It would be nice if there was one TLM in a larger city. It could be in one church and one Sunday Mass. That way people could have a choice. I would really like to go to a TLM, but the closest one is twice a month and it is 65 miles away.

Thatā€™s because you are supposed to be a spectator. The priest is offering the lamb of our salvation to God, acting in place of Christ. We have nothing to do with it. We are meant to watch and then partake of the banquet.

Not true. Vat.2 and the Novus Ordo are only about 40 years old. I would say that most under 45 wonā€™t remember a TLM. Needless to say, that leaves a good portion out of the loop in ability to honestly answer this survey. Just as proof, I will be 48 soon and I remember Mass in Latin!

I am of two minds about the TLM. The original reason it was ā€œbannedā€ as I understand it was that we needed to give the Novus Ordo a good chance - there would probably have been far more of a split if it hadnā€™t been suppressed for a while. That being said, from reading this forum, I think I see that problem still exists.

Should we allow a Mass form (TLM vs. Novus Ordo) tear the Church apart? Or should we work at getting the Novus Ordo being celebrated the way it was meant to be? If any have ever been to a Novus Ordo that has been celebrated as it is supposed to be then you wouldnā€™t be so against it and for the Traditional Latin Mass. Once that happens then I say, let there be more indult TLMā€™s. In the meantime, I say every Diocese and Archdiocese should have one TLM allowed for every 50 or 60 mile radius of said Diocese.

If weā€™re just spectators we might as well watch a movie! I was always taught that we, the people, unite ourselves together with the prayers of the priestā€¦Now, THAT I buy šŸ‘ ā€¦Which is why I really donā€™t like the TLM. I realise a lot of people do get something spiritual out of it, but Iā€™m afraid it turns me right off.

My mom came back to the church after 30 years, shortly before she died, and she said the same thing:: ā€˜I finally feel part of this!ā€™.

100% agree šŸ‘ Our priest celebrates the NO to the letter, no abuses, no problems! I hear in the US youā€™re having some weird things going on, in which case I can see the attraction of the TLMā€¦but, the NO celebrated properly , to me personally, draws me much closer to Christ and the Holy Sacrifice of Mass!

it means, Traditonal Latin Massā€¦correct me if Iam wrong. šŸ™‚
Thanks.

In that case, I donā€™t know. Never been to one. I like hearing the mass in latin. I have also heard it in other languages. I wouldnā€™t mind attending one, but I donā€™t know if Iā€™d want to have it all the time.

The TLM is very lovely! I attended one in November, and Iam going back every weekend now! :o

Iā€™d like to see more TLM available. That way Iā€™d have a choice. Iā€™ve never been to a Latin Mass, but plan to go in the near future.

In Texas, Latin Masses are very few and far between. Iā€™m lucky in that a church about 10 miles from my house has a Latin Mass on Sunday afternoons. Otherwise, Mass would be an all day affair or an overnight trip.

If I could ever find a parish around here that offers itā€¦I might tell you how I feel about it šŸ˜›

This is not true. Liturgy is the act of the community, not just the priest. He heads the community, but none the less he still is part of it. The prayers of the Mass are not just the priests, but that of the laity as well. That is why participating in the Mass is the highest duty a Catholic can partake in.

Well, thatā€™s good, but you really should give the TLM more of a chance. To make a statement that you hate it after one appearance is really strong and, to be honest, kind of rash. I love the TLM (as an alternative, not the norm), It takes a while to get used to, but it is as lovely as the NO. I think the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostum might be THE most beautiful Catholic Liturgy.
The Qorbono of the Maronites is also strikingly beautiful and unique too (use of Aramaic and Arabic in their Liturgy)

Hooooooooold on a minute that is used both by Catholics and orthodox Christians so your statement is not quite accurate šŸ˜ƒ

As to Annaā€™s comments - I honestly do not think that the UK is having the same problems with Mass as the USA .

It is more difficult there to find a ā€œtraditionalā€ Mass , your chances outside the big Cities are probably virtually nil - always ready to be proved wrong šŸ˜›

Where did I say we went ONCEā€¦I said 'we have gone a few times, and by that I mean around twice a year for the past 6 years. So, not often, I admitā€¦But I also have a lot of missals dating back to 1851-1935 and from those, plus my own experience I can tell it just 'doesnā€™t do ā€™ anything for me. When I go to church I want to be able to hear the priest speak in a loud and clear voice, facing me, and I enjoy hearing prayers spoken slowly and audibly, same for the readings and the Gospel. Now, I admit this is personal tasteā€¦I really donā€™t like the Orthodox liturgy either (most of dhā€™s family in Cyprus is Greek-Orthodox), because you canā€™t see a thing (the iconoclast is closed for most of the service), you can barely hear the priest, people are walking around venerating icons instead of staying put and concentrating on what is going on up frontā€¦the list is endlessā€¦I know however that a lot of those relatives absolutely SWEAR by their liturgy and find it spiritually uplifting. So, Iā€™m not saying itā€™s ā€˜wrongā€™ or anything, heck we married in a church in Limassol that had ā€˜Patriarchate of Jerusalemā€™ on the door, and their service was okay, as a one-off, but I just prefer a more ā€˜modern, Westernisedā€™ Massā€¦Sorry, itā€™s just who I am. No offense to anyone else, I just answered the question!

Correct šŸ˜› We do have the FSSP and they ā€˜travel aroundā€™ doing old-fashioned TLMā€™s here in Clifton as well, but again: a couple of times a year, and itā€™s mainly old people who go. In the London area I think ā€˜Corpus Christiā€™ still does the TLM regularly, and ā€˜Spanish Placeā€™ as well.
