Iam just curious, would any of you love to see the TLM back, instead of the one we have now? I voted yes. I prefer the TLM.
It will be hard for most people to answer properly as most under 50 probably have never experienced the TLM.Iam just curious, would any of you love to see the TLM back, instead of the one we have now? I voted yes. I prefer the TLM.
it means, Traditonal Latin Massā¦correct me if Iam wrong. What is TLM?
It would be nice if there was one TLM in a larger city. It could be in one church and one Sunday Mass. That way people could have a choice. I would really like to go to a TLM, but the closest one is twice a month and it is 65 miles away.It will be hard for most people to answer properly as most under 50 probably have never experienced the TLM.
Thatās because you are supposed to be a spectator. The priest is offering the lamb of our salvation to God, acting in place of Christ. We have nothing to do with it. We are meant to watch and then partake of the banquet.but Iām afraid the TLM makes me feel like a spectator, on the side-lines, not taking part in what is going on at the front.
Not true. Vat.2 and the Novus Ordo are only about 40 years old. I would say that most under 45 wonāt remember a TLM. Needless to say, that leaves a good portion out of the loop in ability to honestly answer this survey. Just as proof, I will be 48 soon and I remember Mass in Latin! It will be hard for most people to answer properly as most under 50 probably have never experienced the TLM.
If weāre just spectators we might as well watch a movie! I was always taught that we, the people, unite ourselves together with the prayers of the priestā¦Now, THAT I buy ā¦Which is why I really donāt like the TLM. I realise a lot of people do get something spiritual out of it, but Iām afraid it turns me right off.Thatās because you are supposed to be a spectator. The priest is offering the lamb of our salvation to God, acting in place of Christ. We have nothing to do with it. We are meant to watch and then partake of the banquet.

100% agree Our priest celebrates the NO to the letter, no abuses, no problems! I hear in the US youāre having some weird things going on, in which case I can see the attraction of the TLMā¦but, the NO celebrated properly , to me personally, draws me much closer to Christ and the Holy Sacrifice of Mass!Should we allow a Mass form (TLM vs. Novus Ordo) tear the Church apart? Or should we work at getting the Novus Ordo being celebrated the way it was meant to be? If any have ever been to a Novus Ordo that has been celebrated as it is supposed to be then you wouldnāt be so against it and for the Traditional Latin Mass. Brenda V.
Thanks.it means, Traditonal Latin Massā¦correct me if Iam wrong.
The TLM is very lovely! I attended one in November, and Iam going back every weekend now! Thanks.
In that case, I donāt know. Never been to one. I like hearing the mass in latin. I have also heard it in other languages. I wouldnāt mind attending one, but I donāt know if Iād want to have it all the time.
This is not true. Liturgy is the act of the community, not just the priest. He heads the community, but none the less he still is part of it. The prayers of the Mass are not just the priests, but that of the laity as well. That is why participating in the Mass is the highest duty a Catholic can partake in.Thatās because you are supposed to be a spectator. The priest is offering the lamb of our salvation to God, acting in place of Christ. We have nothing to do with it. We are meant to watch and then partake of the banquet.

Hooooooooold on a minute that is used both by Catholics and orthodox Christians so your statement is not quite accurateI think the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostum might be THE most beautiful Catholic Liturgy.
Where did I say we went ONCEā¦I said 'we have gone a few times, and by that I mean around twice a year for the past 6 years. So, not often, I admitā¦But I also have a lot of missals dating back to 1851-1935 and from those, plus my own experience I can tell it just 'doesnāt do ā anything for me. When I go to church I want to be able to hear the priest speak in a loud and clear voice, facing me, and I enjoy hearing prayers spoken slowly and audibly, same for the readings and the Gospel. Now, I admit this is personal tasteā¦I really donāt like the Orthodox liturgy either (most of dhās family in Cyprus is Greek-Orthodox), because you canāt see a thing (the iconoclast is closed for most of the service), you can barely hear the priest, people are walking around venerating icons instead of staying put and concentrating on what is going on up frontā¦the list is endlessā¦I know however that a lot of those relatives absolutely SWEAR by their liturgy and find it spiritually uplifting. So, Iām not saying itās āwrongā or anything, heck we married in a church in Limassol that had āPatriarchate of Jerusalemā on the door, and their service was okay, as a one-off, but I just prefer a more āmodern, Westernisedā Massā¦Sorry, itās just who I am. No offense to anyone else, I just answered the question!Well, thatās good, but you really should give the TLM more of a chance. To make a statement that you hate it after one appearance is really strong and, to be honest, kind of rash. I love the TLM (as an alternative, not the norm), It takes a while to get used to, but it is as lovely as the NO. I think the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostum might be THE most beautiful Catholic Liturgy.
The Qorbono of the Maronites is also strikingly beautiful and unique too (use of Aramaic and Arabic in their Liturgy)
Correct We do have the FSSP and they ātravel aroundā doing old-fashioned TLMās here in Clifton as well, but again: a couple of times a year, and itās mainly old people who go. In the London area I think āCorpus Christiā still does the TLM regularly, and āSpanish Placeā as well.As to Annaās comments - I honestly do not think that the UK is having the same problems with Mass as the USA .
It is more difficult there to find a ātraditionalā Mass , your chances outside the big Cities are probably virtually nil - always ready to be proved wrong
