Would you say you are 'high' or 'low' maintenance?

I am low maintenance with a streak of impatience and mischief. I asked my BF what his opinion was, and he said low maintenance. His ex was the ultimate high maintenance type, so he is pretty glad to be with someone who doesn’t demand things.

Although, just thinking about it, I wouldn’t put up with some things most women would. I think I would die if my guy wanted to do nothing but sit around and watch TV. Our dates are jam packed with museums, festivals, farmers markets, cooking, bike riding, the beach, etc. I told him if we ever get married, I do not want all of that to go away. I still want to go out and have adventures and do things. So, I guess I can be demanding, even if it isn’t all about material things and compliments.

I think that is a good thing to ‘request,’ personally…not high maintenance. I think that maybe all of us have a little of both ‘sides’ in us now and again. :)*

I know, my dd is becoming a bit of the same. I ‘need’ this conditioner…I need to shop here…I need…I need…I said…you don’t need any of this. It is perfectly ‘‘okay’’ to want certain things…nothing wrong with owning nice things, BUT…do not categorize them as ‘‘needs.’’ You need God, shelter, a bed, food, and water. (and clothes) But, the rest, not needs. *
My dd went through the same stage when she had to have certain labels, shop at certain stores, have the latest styles (and none of this involved a trip to Walmart!). But now she’s in her 20s and buying her own clothes. Guess what? She often shops at Target and resale shops and yes, she even goes to Walmart on occasion.😉 A dose of reality really helped!

*Ah, yeah…funny how that works! lol
I buy my tees at Target…I buy dd’s at hollister…what’s wrong with this picture? lol I will say this though…quality is what you are paying for also. She has tees from walmart, that disintegrated after a few months of washing, and then tees from hollister that have lasted for two years and counting…look like they are brand new. So, sometimes, you’re paying for better quality, and I’ll pay for the brand name IF IT MEANS better quality, not just for the name on the label. You buy a mercedes, it should drive better and last longer than a ford focus. One would think. So, sometimes, you get what you pay for. My husband buys the cheapie paper towels at the store…and I tell him, for every 5 sheets I need to clean up the spill, I could have used one bounty. lol So, what are you really saving in the end, when you run out of the cheaper product quicker, you know?

I am frugal, but I won’t skimp on value, and quality…because you are in the end, not saving money if you’re buying a cheaply made product. Just my two cents. *

I would say that’s high maintenance but in a good way… or what. It’s tricky because it requires effort but it isn’t effort for its own sake like with what we’d call high maintenance in the bad sense, is it? I kinda find myself in what dulcissima says… I love going out, going to places, sightseeing etc. Never managed to drag a lass to a place like that. It’s all party, party, party…

I’m pretty low-maintenance…
I think I had my first manicure when I got engaged (I had a pretty ring to show off!)… and my first pedicure on my wedding day (at the salon getting ready)…
I had my hair highlighted… ONCE… never colored… I can go months before I remember to get my hair cut (I just never find the time for it)…

But that isn’t to say I don’t like taking care of myself. I’m self-conscience enough to know what looks stylish and what doesn’t… I certainly wouldn’t ever want to be looked at as “unkept” or “frumpy”, LOL - although, I’m sure that image has unfortunately been portrayed at times (hey, working moms are exhausted… ignore the bad makeup job and tasseled hair, okay!?! :o :p)

Back in the good ol’ days (BC - before children :D) I used to have TIME to take care of myself more… getting up early enough to really “do” my hair and makeup… but now I get just seconds to look in the mirror and say “holy ****!” before rushing out the door… ahh well, you do what you have to do. 😊

If you lived in the US, I would set you up with my younger sister.

*:rotfl: That’s funny, EM. I hear ya. I actually have never had my hair colored in a salon…and I get the looks from friends  <<---- like this. I refuse to spend a ton of money to make my hair BROWN. If I were highlighting or something, MAYBE. But, it costs way too much…I dye it myself, always have…and I don’t dye it often…and people think it’s looks great…so it cost me all of $8. I have friends who pay oodles of money to have their hair color look like mine in the end…makes no sense to me. lol But, to each’s own. They look at me like I’m nuts for getting my nails filled…but that is something I can’t do, so…

I admit I do love jewelry…that is my weakness:blush:, and I love when my dh buys me pretty things for birthdays, or whatever. But, if he did not buy that for me, I would love whatever he picks out…it’s the thought that counts. I just try to direct his thoughts to the jewelry store…lol :p*

*Hi Peter, what are you picky about?

Come to think of it, my husband is picky about certain things…like housecleaning, or laundry. Has to be done a ‘‘certain’’ way…are you picky like that? *
My wife would say yes to the cleaning and what foods I do or do not like/eat. If I have eaten a food and it makes me sick, I typically do not eat it again or at least for a few years. Or if a restaurant made me sick, I typically will not go back to that location. I will try the same restaurant at another location.

I must be very high maintenance then, too 😃 This is called being safe. I have a tendency if I have come down with a migraine after eating something, but maybe the migraine was coming on anyways, I associate that day with that food, so then I banish the food/restaurant forever. lol I don’t think that’s odd, though…🤷

I just asked my husband (via google chat), “Honey, am I high maintenance or low maintenance?” and he said, “Yes.” 😃

someone can now tell me what that’s supposed to mean.
😃

:rotfl:… yes means yes in my book… 😛

:rotfl: you guys are funny. I like your dh’s answer Consecrated. That was a wise answer, indeed. 😃

That’s a very good question. With a wife and four daughters though, it’s tough to tell if they are high maintenance or low.😛

Last pair of new shoes I had was 4 years ago.

Never had a mani or pedi.

Have not had dinner in a sit down restaurant with my husband or son for well over a year.

Own one bra that fits.

Wear the same 3 pair of jeans and 1 pair of dress slacks in rotation -

I am about as low maintenance as they come.
Wow! I can see what you are not doing, but I hope that you are doing at least a little something to pamper yourself occasionally. Everyone needs a treat once in a while.

I’ve been told sometimes that I’m high maintenance based on the way that I look before a man has gotten to know me well, but in reality I try to look “put together” on a budget by being the queen of bargains. For years I didn’t have the money to splurge even on a $10 manicure, so now I shell out for a professional to make sure that my right hand does not look like a 5 year old polished the nails and I get more frequent hair cuts. By watching for great deals, especially at certain online locations I have slowly built a nice wardrobe of clothing and accessories that I can wear for work, church, etc. I buy quality for classics and keep them for years while “freshening” things with a few trendier items on occasion. I think that the trick is to look “high maintenance” while actually being low maintenance so that we can enjoy our lives, give to others generously of our time and treasure and not rack up debt.

Since I’ve had a good salary my “high maintenance” things have been mainly for my house. I finally have a good size TV that I can see from across the den and more than basic cable to watch on it. Whoohoo! I put in nice updated counters when I bought my house plus some new flooring. Some friends questioned spending on cosmetics for the house so quickly, but paint and some updates really made it feel like my home and not just someone else’s hand-me-down house. My other high maintenance thing has always been reading materials. If I can’t get my fill at the library for free, then it is on to the used book store, then the regular book store, then to online book stores. . . well you get the picture. If books and magazines were illegal I would be skulking around trying to find an underground connection because I could not do without.

Long live the queen of bargains then. That’s a great thing! I very much admire that quality in a lady because anyone can go and spend $$$$ and come back home with a designer product, but it takes all the more to achieve a great result with limited mean, so it says more too.
