Would you say you are 'high' or 'low' maintenance?

Long live the queen of bargains then. That’s a great thing! I very much admire that quality in a lady because anyone can go and spend $$$$ and come back home with a designer product, but it takes all the more to achieve a great result with limited mean, so it says more too.
I agree, too. I love to find sales! Truthfully, most stores here in the states now, even the high end retailers are struggling…so you can get some great great deals! I do like a lot of the casual tees and skirts at Target though…that’s a surprising store!

*Ah, yeah…funny how that works! lol
I buy my tees at Target…I buy dd’s at hollister…what’s wrong with this picture? lol I will say this though…quality is what you are paying for also. She has tees from walmart, that disintegrated after a few months of washing, and then tees from hollister that have lasted for two years and counting…look like they are brand new. So, sometimes, you’re paying for better quality, and I’ll pay for the brand name IF IT MEANS better quality, not just for the name on the label. You buy a mercedes, it should drive better and last longer than a ford focus. One would think. So, sometimes, you get what you pay for. My husband buys the cheapie paper towels at the store…and I tell him, for every 5 sheets I need to clean up the spill, I could have used one bounty. lol So, what are you really saving in the end, when you run out of the cheaper product quicker, you know?

I am frugal, but I won’t skimp on value, and quality…because you are in the end, not saving money if you’re buying a cheaply made product. Just my two cents. *
I agree with you on buying quality items at higher prices. But trendy things or t-shirts (IMO) shouldn’t cost too much since they don’t last more than a couple of seasons anyway. I always hunt for sales. Clothes are sold at such a huge mark up that I hardly ever pay full price. And it’s so much fun finding a bargain!🙂

lol, it is fun…I feel like I know something no one else does. 😃 (when I get a bargain)

This is what I quote to my DH when I’m having a high maintenance moment.

ha! 😉 Happy wife, happy life.

I would say I’m a really ‘low maintenance’ guy. I do like nice things and prefer to pay a little more for quality than to have to re-buy items over and over that are cheaper. That being said, I am the type of person that only buys things out of necessity rather than gratifying wants or to ‘keep up with the Joneses’.

I remember when I went off to college a number of years ago, I took just about nothing with me (or so it seemed). I brought my clothes, computer and school supplies. That was basically it. I think I was the only person not to have a tv (my roommate didn’t have one either).

When I moved into an apartment upon graduation to start working full time I didn’t have a tv either. Eventually I got a hand me down tv from a family member that didn’t want there old one (which is a decent tv). Anyway, nowadays I’m still driving around my car which is from '00 and I don’t have an HDTV like basically every guy in their 20s, I haven’t made any luxury purchases, etc. Rather than spend money on various high end material items I prefer to travel or save. I can think of a number of people who have purchased something like 3 iPods over the course of time I have the one and only I purchased several years ago. Sure it would be nice to have a new one, or a better tv, but I don’t need them, so I don’t buy them.

In terms of a relationship, as long as a girl shows me she cares through actions, that is what matters most to me.

What’s wrong though with buying a ‘want?’ Like I want to buy a bracelet that I like…I don’t buy everything I see, but suppose I have been eyeing something to wear or a piece of jewelry for a while…is there something wrong with buying a ‘want’ and not just necessities? I believe in tithing and charity giving, first…my dh and I have tried to live by that principle for the past few years…pay bills…but then, is it wrong to never buy anything ‘just because you want it?’ I don’t believe in keeping up with the Joneses…it’s definitely something that fuels many unncessary purchases in our country. But, personally, I don’t see anything wrong with buying something for one’s self …that might be ‘a nice to have’ but not a ‘need.’

Like most people here, I’m a little of both. I’d say I lean towards high maintenance, my husband says I’m low maintence. We’re both food snobs, and music snobs, and style snobs, so in those areas I would definately say high maintenance. I love order and cleanliness - but I also love destroying it all everyday, so it’s not like we close off rooms to kids and dogs (I’ve always hated rooms that are “only for company”). Style-wise, I’m addicted to natural fibers and generally won’t wear man-made fabrics (except some really nice rayons) but I also don’t have a lot of clothes, and I make most of them so it really doesn’t cost us much. I guess it’s just easier to be high maintenance when you don’t have to buy what you want…that would make it really expensive!

I also take a bit of time to get ready in the morning, but I think if I actually slept more often I wouldn’t take as much time - its easy to spend time on yourself at 4am: everyone’s asleep (usually) and everything is closed.🙂

With all my HM tendencies, I love camping, hiking, and traveling on the cheap. My husband and I once spent a week wandering Italy wearing the same clothes and living off cheap Italian bread and blood oranges. We looked (and smelled, I’m sure) pretty bad the last couple days, but it was so nice travelling with no luggage at all!

I have a brother who was uber HM (he “needed” special shampoo, conditioner, facewash, expensive clothes, food, everything). When he started living on his own he had no money and suddenly realized that all he really needed was cheap coffee and good cigarettes. He’s so much happier now.

*Your trip to Italy sounds amazing, I think it’s neat that you traveled in a ‘low maintenance’ kind of way! Re: your brother…hahaha That made me laugh out loud, for real. I think my kids will be in for rude awakenings (my dd moreso than ds, he is lower maintenance) when they venture out on their own someday. 😉 I’m trying to progress my daughter to more of the lower maintenance category. Kids learn from their parents…I’m also a work in progress, on some days. I don’t want her to be low maintenance when it comes to husband selection someday, that is a time when being picky is important, and discerning well. (however)

Thanks for sharing!*

No, there’s nothing wrong buying something you don’t need. It’s a matter of picking ascetic discipline or not. Not everyone has to be fasting all the time. I’ve kinda started going to cafes on this notion again. Previously, I’d only do that in case of meeting up with a lady, these days I have no qualms sipping a beer with doods (though admittedly going through the whole list of different martinis a bar has like the last time I went is not something I should do every week :p).

🙂 Good luck! My mom tried to progress my sister and I into the higher maintenance catagory when we were teens. I was uber hippie-girl: rarely showered, didn’t shave my legs, made patchwork hippie clothes from leftover Goodwill clothes, lived on celery and green tea…at least I learned how to sew during that time 🤷

That is so true! In my low maintenance phase could have happily settled for a cool guy with a converted bus and a beard:o

I suppose I didn’t really explain myself well. There is nothing wrong with buying things you want and to make yourself happy, or as a reward for some sort of accomplishment, etc. I was trying to emphasize how I am low maintenance and that I don’t usually do that much. I only think its bad if people have to live above their means to buy the things they want or think they have to have - as a result they end up putting themselves in financial trouble. If you can afford to have nice things, then by all means, live life how you want to live it. So I agree with what you said above.

*Oh oh, ok…lol I might have taken things wrong, earlier. I agree with you here. I think the key is to not find happiness in things. And I’m guilty of doing that earlier in my marriage. I have to sometimes ‘fight’ the tendency to, when I’m upset, go shopping. A priest told me to not shop when I’m not having a good day, or something. lol I have followed his advice, and have been saving ever since.

I also think high/low maintenance can mean how you like to have things, I order things at a restaurant, most of the time, I’m asking for the dressing, or whatever…to be ‘on the side.’ Some of my friends find me to be ‘high maintenance’ in this regard…I say, well, I like it how I like it. And restaurants always pour too much of everything on your food, so…lol It’s good to get things on the side… :o

Thanks for your reply, I totally get what what you’re saying, and I think you have a healthy outlook about this!*

lol, I’d say not, indeed. You know, I have NEVER had a martini in my life…they look so glam in movies. lol Are they good? Why the olive?😛 Seriously, they look tasty, but when I heard they are dry, I was like…eh…not so sure about those.

There’s more to Martini than dry! I recommend Rosato if dry’s not your cup of tea. Then you can try Bianco or Rosso. Dry with an olive is good. Since Martini is herbal anyway, an olive doesn’t actually make such a sensational appearance. It’s more decoration and a final snack. Some people try those miniature onions instead, whatever they’re called, and that also works.

I’m not familiar with these…what is Rosso? lol Is this made with vodka? 😊 40 yrs old, and have no idea how to make a martini. My sister loves 'em, though. :o

Martinis are the best. There’s a place near us that has different flavors of martinis for $4 on Thursday, and they are so yummy. 😃

*I want to try one! lol What do you mean flavors? I have seen fruit versions on menus…are they made with juices? *

Materially I’m low maintenace but I need a lot of love so my DH calls me high maintenance in that department! (He’s pretty high maintenance himself!) 😃
